The BALL Engineer III Outlier is a 40 mm automatic GMT watch family built around a second-time-zone display, tritium micro gas-light illumination and manufacturer-rated resistance to water, magnetism and shock. The exact reference matters: the cited black-dial model has a ceramic bezel and 29 lights, while the cited white- and turquoise-dial versions have steel bezels and 16 lights.
What the Engineer III Outlier does
The Outlier combines a conventional time display with a GMT hand for a second time zone and a bidirectional rotating 24-hour bezel. BALL lists its automatic movement as caliber RRM7337-C and includes a date display. The bezel’s 24-hour scale can be used with the GMT hand to track another time zone; set the hand and bezel according to the time-zone offset you need to follow.
The cited official pages identify the movement as COSC-certified and state a BALL Official Standard of −2/+4 seconds per day. That is the manufacturer’s stated standard, not a claim of independent testing of every individual watch after sale.
How the cited references compare
These specifications and displayed prices belong to the exact references shown below, not automatically to every watch sold under the Outlier name. Prices are those displayed on BALL Watch Japan’s product pages and can change.

For the black reference, BALL specifies a 904L stainless-steel case, domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal, screw-down crown and mu-metal inner case. The cited white and turquoise pages identify the movement and resistance figures but do not establish that every construction detail is identical to the black model.
What the resistance ratings mean
BALL lists 200 m water resistance, 80,000 A/m anti-magnetism and 5,000 G shock resistance for each of the cited references. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. The black model’s page attributes its anti-magnetic protection to a mu-metal inner case. A rating is not a substitute for care: the crown should be secured as specified by the manufacturer, and water resistance can be affected by wear, impacts or aging seals.

How the lights work
The dial and hands use self-illuminating micro gas lights. Unlike lume that needs to absorb light before it glows, these sealed light sources are designed to illuminate without prior exposure. The number differs by reference: BALL lists 29 for DG9002B-S1CJ-BK and 16 for the cited white and turquoise variants. Do not assume that count applies to all Outlier dials or limited editions.
Fit and everyday wear considerations
The cited references share a nominal 40 mm bezel diameter and 13.8 mm thickness. Those figures describe the bezel and case height, not the full wearing footprint across the lugs; the cited pages do not provide a lug-to-lug measurement. The black reference is listed at approximately 161 g, compared with approximately 153 g for the white and turquoise examples, so even these similar-sized variants are not identical in listed weight.

- Check the exact reference and bracelet or strap configuration before buying; the cited pages do not establish one universal configuration for the whole collection.
- If case height or fit is decisive, try the exact model on or confirm its lug-to-lug dimension with the seller rather than relying on diameter alone.
- Verify the dial, bezel material and light count against the reference code, especially when a listing uses only the collection name.
Prices, release history and availability
The Japanese official product pages list ¥638,000 for DG9002B-S1CJ-BK and ¥594,000 for the cited white and turquoise variants. These are regional page prices, not a universal collection price. In its 1 May 2023 launch report, WatchMediaOnline reported an announced Japanese launch price of ¥407,000 including tax for the original DG9000B-S1CJ-BK, with release planned for June 2023. That is historical launch pricing, not a current quote for the later DG9002 reference.
Jura Watches’ Engineer III collection page lists several Outlier limited editions and has displayed UK prices including £3,400 and £3,550. BALL Korea’s Engineer III listing shows additional color variants, including silver/ice-blue and blue-and-red entries, with white, blue and black dial options among the displayed models. A secondary reference database, Hourstriker, lists DG9002B-S2C and DG9000B-S2C at a database MSRP of $3,599; that is secondary-source information, not a manufacturer price statement.

Before relying on any listing, match its exact reference, market, currency and tax treatment, then confirm current stock and price with the seller. A collection page or past launch report cannot establish present availability for a particular watch.

Which Outlier reference should you compare first?
- Match the reference code. Distinguish the original launch reference DG9000B-S1CJ-BK from DG9002B-S1CJ-BK and the DG9000B-S4CJ white and turquoise versions.
- Choose the bezel and dial configuration. The cited black model has a ceramic top bezel; the cited white and turquoise models have stainless-steel bezels.
- Compare the light count and listed weight. The examples range from 16 to 29 lights and approximately 153 to 161 g.
- Confirm market-specific pricing and availability. Compare an up-to-date listing for the exact reference in your region rather than treating a historical price or another market’s price as current.
