The Grand Seiko Elegance SBGK007 pairs a 39 mm stainless-steel case and white dial with a manually wound movement, small seconds, and a power-reserve display. Grand Seiko’s US product page lists it at USD 7,300, but that is a regional displayed price—not a universal price or a guarantee of a retailer’s transaction price. This is a specification-grounded look at what the watch offers, not a report of independent wear or timing tests.
What the SBGK007 is
Grand Seiko describes the SBGK007 as an Elegance Collection watch with a clean white curved dial, stainless-steel case, and black crocodile-leather strap. Its manually wound Caliber 9S63 places small seconds at nine o’clock and a power-reserve indicator at three. The company says the movement is the first Grand Seiko caliber equipped with a small-seconds hand. Grand Seiko’s US product page presents the watch at USD 7,300; check the page and local retailers for current availability and pricing.

How its dimensions may inform fit
The case measures 39.0 mm across, 44.0 mm lug-to-lug, and 11.6 mm thick, with a 19 mm band width. Grand Seiko lists the watch at 70 g. Those measurements give a more useful sense of its footprint than diameter alone: lug-to-lug describes the span across the wrist, while thickness indicates how far the case rises. They cannot determine how it will fit an individual wrist; wrist shape, strap adjustment, and personal preference matter.
What Caliber 9S63 offers
The 9S63 is a manual-winding movement, not an automatic one. Grand Seiko lists a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), 33 jewels, and hacking, which allows the seconds hand to stop when the crown is pulled for setting. Its reserve is approximately 72 hours, also described by the company as three days. The power-reserve indicator shows the winding state; Grand Seiko’s 9S63 instructions explain the manual-winding movement and indicator.
#1 Best Overall
- Three-fold clasp with push button release
- Dual-curved sapphire crystal
- Power reserve display on the back
- Power resrve Approx. 72 hours(3 days)
The company presents the manual-winding architecture and the opposing small-seconds and reserve displays as choices that support a slim profile and classic dial design. That is Grand Seiko’s design rationale, not a measured comparison with other watches. For historical context, the February 5, 2019 announcement introduced the 9S63 Elegance direction and its dial layout; its original model lineup and pricing should not be treated as current SBGK007 market information.
Understanding the accuracy figures
Grand Seiko gives two accuracy figures for the movement, and they describe different contexts:
Rank #2
- See-through case back
- Date display
- Screw-down crown
- 40mm Diameter
- Weight 178.0 g
- Mean daily rate: +5 to −3 seconds per day. Grand Seiko defines this as a mean measured before the movement is cased, in six fixed positions, over 12 days in an artificially controlled environment.
- Normal-use accuracy: +10 to −1 seconds per day. This is the company’s separate stated figure for normal use.
These are manufacturer specifications, not results from an independent timing test of an individual SBGK007. For definitions and movement details, see Grand Seiko’s Caliber 9S63 page.
Case, crystal, strap, and water resistance
The US product specification lists a screw case back with a see-through window, a dual-curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on its inner surface, and a folding clasp with push-button release. The strap is crocodile leather, and the listed band width is 19 mm; that width alone does not establish that every 19 mm replacement strap will fit the case correctly.

Grand Seiko labels the SBGK007 “Splash Resistant.” The cited product page does not provide a depth rating, so that wording should not be taken as a swimming or diving recommendation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the SBGK007 worth considering?
The case for considering it rests on a particular combination: a compactly specified 39 mm case, a manually wound three-day movement, a display that pairs small seconds with a reserve indicator, and a dress-oriented leather strap. The trade-offs are equally concrete: manual winding requires winding by the wearer, the accuracy figures are manufacturer specifications with distinct measurement contexts, and the stated water-resistance language is limited to splash resistance.
Whether that combination justifies the listed USD 7,300 depends on your priorities and the price available in your market. Compare the local asking price with watches you are actually considering using consistent measures—case diameter, lug-to-lug, thickness, movement winding method and reserve, accuracy context, strap, and stated water resistance—rather than relying on diameter or a single accuracy number alone.
