The Serica 5303 is a family of dive watches, not one unchanging specification. The current official 5303 PLD page describes a 39 mm steel watch with a COSC-certified Soprod M100; the original 2021 model was reported with a Soprod Newton and a different bezel description. Check the reference and generation before comparing movements, scales or included straps.
What is the Serica 5303?
The 5303 is SERICA’s diving-watch family. Its name appears across different references and generations, so a listing that says only “5303” is not enough to establish its movement, bezel markings or included bracelet. The most clearly documented current version here is the 5303 PLD, a special edition SERICA says was developed with the Amicale des Plongeurs Démineurs.

DT MAX bezel and strap
The PLD has a deep-blue ceramic bezel insert with a double scale in metres and minutes, which SERICA names DT MAX. SERICA lists a PLD strap in historic green or Louise blue. These details belong to the PLD specification and should not be assumed for every 5303 reference. SERICA 5303 PLD

How the original 2021 5303 differs
Hodinkee’s 2021 coverage described the original 5303 as 39 mm wide, 12.2 mm thick and 46.5 mm lug-to-lug, with 300 m water resistance and a domed sapphire crystal. It reported a unidirectional twin-scale bezel: a ceramic elapsed-time scale and a steel 12-hour scale. Movement and bracelet
Fratello’s review, published October 3, 2021, identifies the original watch’s movement as a Soprod Newton. That is distinct from the M100 stated for the current PLD. Hodinkee described the original model’s steel mesh bracelet as tapering from 20 mm to 16 mm; do not treat that measurement as a compatibility guarantee for another generation or reference. What COSC certification tells you
The PLD page identifies its Soprod M100 as COSC-certified. COSC’s 2026 deposit specification says mechanical wrist chronometers are tested under ISO 3159:2009 (type I). Certification is a standard and testing context; it does not establish the condition or timekeeping performance of a particular used watch. COSC deposit specifications
Water resistance: read the rating in context
SERICA lists 30 ATM for the PLD, while Hodinkee reported 300 m for the original 2021 model. These are manufacturer or publication specifications for their respective versions, not a guarantee that a particular watch remains water-resistant today. Before using a pre-owned or long-stored example in water, check its service history, seals and crown operation, and follow the seller’s or watchmaker’s guidance.

Buying a Serica 5303
Before committing to a new or pre-owned listing, confirm the details that vary between versions rather than relying on the family name alone:
- Ask for the exact reference and generation, plus clear photographs of the dial, caseback and bezel.
- Confirm which movement is fitted and whether the seller documents the COSC-certified M100 version.
- Verify the included bracelet or strap and its attachment dimensions before ordering a replacement.
- Check regional taxes, return terms, warranty coverage and service documentation with the seller.
- For a watch intended for water use, ask about seal and pressure testing rather than relying only on the printed rating.
