Hublot is a Swiss watch brand best known for combining traditional watchmaking with assertive design and materials such as gold, rubber, titanium and ceramic. Its collections do not share one standard specification: size, movement, functions, water resistance and strap fit all depend on the exact reference. Before comparing or buying one, identify that reference and check its details.
How Hublot’s design identity began
Hublot’s story begins in 1980, when founder Carlo Crocco introduced a watch pairing a gold case with a natural-rubber strap. The contrast between a precious metal and a practical, unconventional strap became a foundation for the brand’s “Art of Fusion” identity. The name Hublot means “porthole”; the brand’s anniversary history connects that inspiration to the original watch’s bezel and titanium screws. Hublot’s 40-year history and LVMH’s Hublot profile describe the brand’s origins and approach.
Big Bang and Classic Fusion: the main difference
The Big Bang, introduced in 2005, made Hublot’s layered case architecture and combination of materials more prominent. Classic Fusion followed in 2008 as a more restrained interpretation, with a simpler dial, satin-finished bezel and more refined profile, according to Hublot’s anniversary history.
| Collection | Design orientation | What to check on a specific watch |
|---|---|---|
| Big Bang | Layered, contemporary architecture; the family spans multiple sizes, materials, movements and complications. | Exact case, bezel and strap materials; caliber and functions; size and water-resistance rating. |
| Classic Fusion | A pared-back, more refined interpretation of earlier Hublot design cues. | Exact reference and specification; the collection name alone does not establish movement, dimensions or water resistance. |
These are design distinctions, not guarantees about every model. Hublot also makes shaped and experimental watches, including Spirit of Big Bang and MP creations; the collection names alone are not enough to infer a watch’s specifications.

Why the reference matters more than the collection name
Hublot is a range of materially different watches, not one specification repeated across a collection. Two watches with the same collection name can differ in case dimensions, metal or ceramic, movement, complication, strap system and water resistance. Use the full reference number to identify the watch, then verify the specifications on its individual product page or documentation.
Example: Big Bang Original Unico Titanium Ceramic 43 mm
Hublot lists reference 431.NM.1370.RX with a 43 mm polished and satin-finished titanium case, black ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal and black structured-rubber strap. It uses the HUB1280 Unico self-winding flyback chronograph movement with a column wheel, has an approximately 72-hour power reserve and is rated to 100 m/10 ATM. These specifications describe this reference alone, not every Big Bang. See Hublot’s official product page.

How to evaluate a Hublot you are considering
- Design and fit: Compare the case shape, diameter and thickness where published. Do not assume a stated diameter tells the whole story of how a watch will sit on your wrist.
- Materials: Check each component separately. A titanium case, for example, can be paired with a ceramic bezel and rubber strap; the whole watch is not necessarily made from one material.
- Movement and functions: Verify the caliber and whether the watch is quartz or mechanical, and whether it offers three hands, a chronograph or another complication. Do not infer the movement from the collection name.
- Water resistance: Use the rating for the exact reference. On a pre-owned watch, the printed rating does not establish that its seals remain in serviceable condition.
- Strap compatibility: Confirm fit against the exact model. Hublot’s September 2026 announcement describes One Click interchangeability for its Soft Touch collection; that does not establish compatibility across all Hublot watches. Read the Soft Touch announcement.
- Materials claims: Hublot describes its colored high-tech ceramic as 300 Vickers harder than traditional ceramic, amagnetic and corrosion-proof. Treat these as the brand’s claims about that material, not proof that a watch is indestructible. Hublot’s model page provides the claim.
Warranty: check purchase date and category
Hublot’s current international policy distinguishes watches by purchase date and category. According to its FAQ, eligible non-Certified Pre-Owned watches purchased through the Official Network from 1 January 2026 receive a five-year international basic warranty. An owner may be eligible for a further five years through Hublotista registration if the original coverage is still active at registration. The policy lists a two-year basic term for watches bought through the network through 31 December 2025, connected watches, and Hublot Certified Pre-Owned watches; extension terms differ by category. Coverage is for qualifying manufacturing defects and is subject to the full policy. Check the current regional terms and the individual watch’s documents rather than assuming a used watch qualifies. Hublot’s international warranty FAQ sets out the conditions.
On 14 April 2026, Hublot CEO Julien Tornare described the policy as “a profound commitment to excellence in our watchmaking” when announcing coverage of up to five years plus five years. Read Hublot’s announcement.

Checks for a pre-owned Hublot
- Match the reference and serial details on the watch to its paperwork and the seller’s description.
