Baumatic is a movement family, not a single watch. Its defining feature is a 120-hour power reserve, and the clearest current example is the 39 mm Clifton Baumatic 10771 (M0A10771), introduced as part of the 2025 Clifton redesign. It pairs that five-day reserve with a restrained dress-watch design, 5 ATM water resistance and manufacturer-claimed magnetic resistance. What the available evidence does not establish is equally important: there is no controlled independent accuracy test, long-term durability record or verified current retail price for this reference.
What “Baumatic” means—and which watch this review covers
Baumatic names Baume & Mercier’s movement family. The watch reviewed here is the current Clifton Baumatic 10771, reference M0A10771, whose official product page lists the BM13-1975A self-winding movement. It should not be confused with older Clifton Baumatic references or with Riviera Baumatic models: shared movement-family branding does not make their cases, dials, bracelets or other specifications interchangeable.

The 2025 Clifton announcement also identifies the M0A10778 and M0A10802. The 10778 is a salmon-dial limited edition of 350 pieces; the 10802 has an 18K rose-gold case. The 10771 has a gradient blue dial and an interchangeable blue alligator strap. These distinctions matter if you are comparing listings or looking for a particular configuration.
The BM13-1975A: five days between windings
Baume & Mercier specifies a 120-hour power reserve for the BM13-1975A in the 10771. In practical terms, that is five days when fully wound, so the watch can sit unworn through much of a workweek and still be running. The 2025 collection announcement gives the same reserve for the three Clifton references it covers.

#1 Best Overall
- Baume et Mercier Clifton Baumatic Automatic Blue Dial Men's Watch M0A10593
The brand lists a 4 Hz frequency, or 28,800 vibrations per hour, and 1,500-gauss magnetic resistance for those announced references. It attributes the magnetic resistance to silicon and non-ferromagnetic elements in two sensitive movement components: the regulating organ and escapement. The manufacturer describes the result as “twenty-five times higher than the current standard.” That comparison is the brand’s claim; no independent comparative test is established here. It is a specified resistance, not a reason to assume the watch is immune to every magnetic field or to disregard the manufacturer’s handling guidance.
The movement is visible through a sapphire case back. Baume & Mercier describes decorated bridges and baseplate, along with an openworked oscillating weight. Those are finishing details to judge visually, not evidence of accuracy or durability.
Case, dial and wearing context
The 10771 measures 39 mm across and about 11.2 mm thick according to its official product page. The 2025 announcement gives 11.22 mm for the cited new references. The redesign adopts a more vintage-inspired presentation, with an Arabic numeral at 12, elongated indexes, a date aperture and domed sapphire crystal. The blue gradient dial and leather strap give the 10771 a dressier character than a sports-oriented Clifton or Riviera Baumatic.

At 39 mm, the case is a moderate modern size on paper, but fit depends on wrist shape, lug span and personal preference; the listed diameter alone cannot tell you how it will wear. Try it on if possible, especially if you are choosing between this strap version and another reference. The official page calls the blue alligator strap interchangeable, but confirm exact attachment and replacement-strap compatibility by reference before buying an alternative.

The official specification is 5 ATM, approximately 50 m. Treat that as a water-resistance rating, not a promise that the watch suits every water activity. Baume & Mercier recommends an annual water-resistance check; seals and performance can change with age, use and servicing.
Accuracy, evidence and what remains unknown
The available specifications describe the movement’s frequency, reserve and magnetic-resistance claim, but they do not provide a controlled independent accuracy test for the 10771. Nor do they establish a multi-year durability record across owners. Without those data, it would be misleading to assign a measured daily accuracy figure or to present a short hands-on review as proof of long-term performance.
Time and Watches published a hands-on review covering the 10771 and 10793. Its observations are useful as an outside perspective on those samples and the 2025 collection, but they are not a substitute for a controlled test or years of ownership evidence. If accuracy is your deciding factor, ask the retailer about applicable tolerances and after-sales support, and assess the individual watch during its return or inspection period.
Price context: dated reporting, not a current quote
Time and Watches reported 2025 publication-era prices of €3,550 / US$3,450 for a steel Clifton Baumatic on an alligator leather strap and €3,700 / US$3,600 for a steel-bracelet model. These are reported prices from that publication period, not verified current offers or a guarantee of equivalent availability in every market. Check Baume & Mercier or an authorized retailer for a current local price and the exact reference and configuration.
Warranty and ownership costs to check
Baume & Mercier states that a Clifton or Riviera equipped with a Baumatic movement may qualify for six additional years of guarantee after registration within 60 days of purchase. The manufacturer also states a 24-month international warranty for watches bought from an authorized retailer. The extension is conditional, not automatic: confirm that the reference, seller, purchase date and your market meet the current terms, and complete registration within the stated period.

No specific total service cost for the 10771 is established here. Before purchase, ask an authorized retailer or service center about local service access, current fees and what the warranty covers; do not infer a total ownership cost from the watch’s movement specifications alone.

Baume & Mercier recommends a complete service every three to five years and a water-resistance check every year. These are the manufacturer’s care recommendations, not an independent assessment of the ideal interval for every wearer or environment. The brand says 50 turns of the crown provide sufficient reserve before first wearing a Baumatic watch. Follow the instructions for the specific reference and avoid forcing the crown.
How to assess the Clifton Baumatic 10771 before buying
- Confirm the reference: M0A10771 is the blue-dial, steel Clifton discussed here; the 10778 and 10802 differ in dial, edition status or case material.
- Check the exact configuration: strap or bracelet, case material and attachment details can vary across Baumatic references.
- Verify the seller and warranty terms, including whether the purchase qualifies for the manufacturer’s registration-based extension.
- Ask for the current local price, return terms and service contact rather than relying on dated price reporting.
- Try the case on if possible, and decide whether its 39 mm diameter, roughly 11.2 mm thickness and dress-oriented design suit your wrist and use.
Verdict
The Clifton Baumatic 10771’s strongest documented case is straightforward: a 39 mm steel dress watch with a five-day reserve, a vintage-influenced blue dial and a manufacturer-specified 1,500-gauss magnetic-resistance figure. Its appeal is clearest for someone who values long reserve and understated styling. The evidence does not support stronger promises about real-world accuracy, long-term durability or current value; verify fit, warranty eligibility, service access and today’s price for your market before deciding.
