Those are different kinds of glow, not two directly comparable dial treatments. The official product descriptions do not establish which watch is brighter or glows longer, so this comparison can explain their placement and purpose—but cannot declare a measured lume winner.
Which watches are being compared?
“Batman” is the Rolex GMT-Master II reference 126710BLNR, named here by its familiar nickname. “Superman” means Franck Muller’s Vanguard Classic Carbon Krypton, reference V45SCKRYVECBNR. It is not one of the separately listed Krypton Racing variants in Franck Muller’s broader Vanguard collection.
The Rolex US page describes a 40 mm Oystersteel watch with a black dial and a blue-and-black Cerachrom bidirectional 24-hour bezel. The specific listing cited here is the Jubilee-bracelet version; Rolex also lists an Oyster-bracelet configuration in the same reference family, so the bracelet is not universal to every 126710BLNR. Rolex’s official 126710BLNR specifications identify calibre 3285, a self-winding mechanical GMT movement, 100 m water resistance and an approximately 70-hour power reserve. The local hour hand can be adjusted independently, while the 24-hour hand tracks reference time.
Franck Muller USA lists the Vanguard Classic Carbon Krypton as a 44 mm automatic watch with a carbon case. Its product description says the case is made from 150-layer compressed carbon with interstitial luminous layers. The maker describes the carbon as lightweight and says each machined and hand-polished case develops a unique pattern. The Franck Muller USA product page identifies the model and its construction; the retrieved description does not give comparable movement specifications or a water-resistance rating.

Where does each watch use luminous material?
Rolex: glow on the time display
Rolex says the BLNR’s broad hands and shaped hour markers—triangles, circles and rectangles—are filled with luminescent material. It identifies the display as Chromalight and describes its blue luminescence as long-lasting. This places the glow directly on the indications a wearer uses to read the dial in low light.
Franck Muller: glow within the case
Franck Muller describes luminous layers interstitially integrated into the compressed-carbon case. In other words, the stated luminous feature belongs to the case construction, rather than being described as luminous hands or hour markers. Its visual effect is therefore a case-material feature; the product text does not establish how much of the case glows under particular conditions.

- Green dial, Gold tone stainless steel band
- 43mm stainless steel case;Screw down crown;Flame Fusion crystal
- 100 meter water resistant
These claims come from the manufacturers. Rolex’s “long-lasting” wording is qualitative, and Franck Muller does not specify a luminous color on the cited page. Neither page publishes a brightness measurement or a glow-duration figure.
Which is better for reading the time in darkness?
On the evidence available from the official descriptions, the Rolex has the clearer stated purpose for dark dial reading: its luminous material is explicitly on the hands and hour markers. Franck Muller’s description instead emphasizes luminous layers in the case. That distinction supports a comparison of placement, but it does not prove how easily either watch can be read in a dark room. No controlled, side-by-side legibility or lume test is established here.

A fair head-to-head test would need matched light exposure to charge each watch, fixed dark conditions and repeatable photography or photometry over time. Without that, it would be misleading to rank the watches by brightness, duration or practical nighttime readability.
What else distinguishes the two models?
Their lume concepts accompany different design and specification priorities. The Rolex combines a conventional dial display with a 24-hour bezel and GMT functionality. The Franck Muller foregrounds its layered carbon case, whose pattern is described by the maker as unique to each finished piece. Their stated case diameters are 40 mm for the Rolex and 44 mm for the Franck Muller, so the larger case is the latter.

Verdict: two different answers to “lume”
If the question is specifically about where luminous material is applied, Rolex describes dial indicators intended to show the time, while Franck Muller describes luminous layers integrated into the case. That makes the Rolex’s stated approach more directly tied to reading the display and the Franck Muller’s to the case’s visual character. It is not a brightness or endurance victory for either watch: the published descriptions do not provide measurements that could settle those contests.
