The watch head weighs 20 g according to Worn & Wound’s 2024 review; the display and wrist-hugging shape are the point, but quick legibility and everyday water use are compromises to consider.
What makes the BHR030 20G unusual?
BEHRENS names the model Ultra-Light 20G and gives it reference BHR030. Its design draws on the “wat,” a note-taking tablet associated with ancient Chinese court officials. Rather than putting a flat movement inside a conventional case, BEHRENS curves the case and movement together so the watch follows the wrist more closely, according to the official product page.
The BM02 is an in-house, manual-winding movement. Fratello’s 2024 hands-on account describes its gear train as connecting at 15-degree angles to accommodate the curve. The design is therefore more than a shaped case around an ordinary movement; the curvature is part of the movement architecture.
How do you read the double-retrograde display?
There are no conventional central hour and minute hands. Instead, each indication travels along its own arc and returns to its starting point at the end of its range. A separate indicator shows the remaining power reserve. Worn & Wound describes the layout as two registers sharing visual space with the skeletonized movement.

That presentation takes a little practice. In his March 2024 review, Worn & Wound’s Brad Homes found the display difficult to read quickly in some lighting, particularly when the hands approach the open-worked center. Fratello’s Dave Sergeant also noted that reading the time takes extra seconds. These are reviewer observations rather than a guarantee of how every wearer will find it, but prospective owners should prioritize an in-person look if fast, glanceable legibility matters.
Setting the time is also less straightforward than with a conventional dial, Homes observed. The retrograde layout rewards attention and visual interest more than immediate familiarity.

Case size, thickness, and weight
BEHRENS lists the case at 42.6 × 38.2 mm and specifies grade 5 titanium. The asymmetrical shape means a single diameter does not capture its full footprint: Sergeant described the production watch’s longest side as 42 mm in Fratello’s 2024 hands-on article.

The two independent reviews disagree on thickness, so 5.2 mm and 6 mm should be treated as source-specific reported figures, not reconciled into a single definitive measurement. The 20 g figure applies to the watch head; the Worn & Wound reviewer reported 34 g with the strap.

Is the Behrens 20G water resistant?
It is rated to 3 BAR, equivalent to 3 ATM or 30 meters in the independent review coverage. That is a modest rating, not an invitation to swim or dive with the watch. The BHR030 is a lightweight mechanical design piece, not a conventional dive or tool watch.
Price and availability context
The BEHRENS product page displays US$7,600 when accessed in 2026. Fratello and Worn & Wound also gave US$7,600 in their March 2024 coverage. A Japanese distributor release from 2024 listed ¥1,650,000 including tax for Japan. These are dated, market-specific price snapshots; check the seller’s current checkout price, taxes, stock, and delivery terms before ordering.

Fratello reported in March 2024 that BEHRENS estimated annual production at 150–180 pieces and that orders were booked for a while. That was a historical estimate and availability report, not a current production figure or stock update.

The 20G makes most sense for someone drawn to mechanical display and unconventional construction, and who is comfortable spending a moment to interpret the time. Its curved movement, very low reported head weight, and double-retrograde arrangement distinguish it from a standard thin dress watch. For a purchase decision, assess the actual wrist fit and curvature, how legible the display is to you, the setting experience, and the limited water-resistance rating. Confirm the exact BHR030 reference, current price, seller status, and warranty and service arrangements with the seller.
