The design combines the brand’s square case and visible screws with a skull-shaped dial aperture and crossed-bones styling. Monochrome-Watches read the blade-shaped hands and the four screws integrated into the crossed-bones motif as part of a nautical, pirate-inspired theme; Time+Tide likewise saw the bronze and aged leather as reinforcing that swashbuckling look. Those are visual interpretations, not functional claims.
How does the bronze case age?
The case is CuSn8 bronze. Its surface can change as it encounters air, moisture and the wearer’s habits, so two examples need not develop the same appearance. Time+Tide and Monochrome-Watches describe patina changing over time, with possible dark or green tones in different conditions; neither establishes a predictable color or timetable.

Time+Tide reports that the caseback is titanium, limiting direct bronze-to-skin contact. That does not establish that every wearer will avoid skin irritation or discoloration. Buyers who are sensitive to metals should treat the caseback detail as a design consideration, not a guarantee.

The manufacturer’s listing is the source for the movement and functions. The 2015 Monochrome-Watches article speculated about the movement, so it is not a basis for identifying the caliber here.

How does it wear?
In his 2015 hands-on review for Time+Tide, Felix Scholz wrote, “The 46mm square BR 01 case wears large.” He also reported that it was comfortable on the wrist, crediting the thick calf strap and very short lugs: “It’s comfortable to wear, thanks to the thick calf strap and the very short lugs.” These are one reviewer’s impressions; the account gives no wrist measurement or fit range, so it cannot predict how the watch will fit a particular wrist.
Brice Goulard’s 2015 Monochrome-Watches article observes that the hands and crown sit off-center relative to the case and dial because the movement occupies the upper part of the case. That describes the layout; it is not evidence of a defect.

Is the skull dial easy to read?
The listed functions are limited to hours, minutes and seconds, with gold hands against a black dial and gold-metallized indexes beneath the crystal. The skull is photoluminescent, making it a central visual feature as well as a source of low-light glow. The available specifications and reviews do not provide a legibility test or establish how quickly the hands can be read in different lighting. The prominent motif and the off-center layout are therefore worth considering alongside the large case if quick, conventional time-reading is a priority.
What did it cost, and is it available now?
Bell & Ross’s product page currently marks the model unavailable. At the time represented by the 2026 listing, the page displayed a European regional price of €6,000 and a US regional price of $7,300; these are manufacturer page prices, not verified transaction or resale prices.

It makes the most sense for someone who specifically wants the combination of a large square BR 01 case, evolving bronze, and an overt skull motif. The manufacturer lists a conventional three-hand mechanical movement, while the visual identity and material change are the defining ownership considerations. The 2015 wear report is encouraging about the strap and short lugs, but also underscores the case’s wrist presence; it is not a substitute for trying this 46 mm square watch on.
