Which BR 03-92 Diver is this review about?
Bell & Ross describes the Black Steel as “the first square diving watch from Bell & Ross.” The design takes the brand’s instrument-inspired square case and adds dive-watch equipment, including a unidirectional timing bezel and screw-down crown. That basic concept was also the focus of Time+Tide’s 2017 review; it is historical context, not a claim that every later variant is identical.
The product family includes different colors and case materials. The specifications below focus on the official Black Steel and Blue Steel listings. They are not firsthand observations of an individual watch, and no wrist fit, accuracy, lume duration, or in-water performance is claimed here.
Black Steel
The official Black Steel listing specifies a 42 mm polished-satin steel case, black dial, and unidirectional steel bezel with a 60-minute scale and black anodized aluminum insert. It comes with a black woven-rubber and ultra-resistant synthetic-fabric strap. Bell & Ross’ Black Steel specifications.

Blue Steel
The official Blue Steel listing also specifies a 42 mm polished-satin steel case, but pairs a blue dial with a blue anodized aluminum bezel insert and a blue rubber and black synthetic-canvas strap. The listed reference is BR0392-D-BU-ST/SRB. Bell & Ross’ Blue Steel listing.
What the specifications mean in use
Shape and wearability
The square case makes this a visually assertive alternative to the familiar round dive-watch format. The 42 mm figure is the official case width for both steel listings; it does not by itself establish how the watch will sit on a particular wrist. The square outline, rather than the diameter alone, is central to the watch’s presence, so trying the exact variant on is the sensible way to judge fit.

Dial and bezel legibility
Both steel models use applied metal indexes and hands filled with Super-LumiNova, according to Bell & Ross. Their contrasting dial and bezel colors distinguish the variants, while the unidirectional bezel provides a 60-minute timing scale on the Black Steel listing. The official Blue Steel listing confirms a unidirectional bezel and blue aluminum insert, but does not specify a different scale in the cited product details.
Do not confuse the depth rating with the insert material. WatchTime’s 2019 review notes that the bezel scale on the watch it discussed is aluminum rather than scratch-resistant ceramic. That is a material trade-off: the rating says something about water resistance, not resistance to scratches on the bezel insert. WatchTime’s review.

Movement and functions
The official steel listings specify the BR-CAL.302 automatic mechanical movement and hours, minutes, seconds, and date. Bell & Ross’ BR 03-92 Diver user guide further identifies automatic winding, a quickset date, hacking seconds, and approximately 40 hours of power reserve. Hacking seconds means the seconds hand stops when the crown is pulled to set the time; the quickset date lets the wearer adjust the date independently of advancing the hands.
Water resistance
Bell & Ross rates both listed steel models to 300 m. WatchTime reported that the watch it reviewed passed pressure tests to 30 bar (300 m); this is that publication’s review context, not a test conducted for this article. A stated rating is not a substitute for maintaining seals or following the manufacturer’s instructions for crown operation and water exposure.
Straps, attachments, and ownership details
The Black and Blue Steel listings specify different strap combinations, so do not assume the included materials are interchangeable or that a replacement fits every BR 03-92 Diver. The user guide describes both screw-mounted strap attachments and a spring-bar arrangement. For the screw-mounted attachments, Bell & Ross instructs owners to use care and the two tools supplied in the watch box. Check the exact reference and attachment system before buying or changing a strap.
There is also a Blue Bronze variant, but it is not simply another color of the steel watch. Bell & Ross specifies a satin-polished CuSn8 bronze case and says its surface develops patina depending on the environment; the page lists 300 m water resistance. Who should consider the BR 03-92 Diver?
- Consider it if you want a dive-watch layout in an unmistakably square, instrument-inspired case and value the 300 m stated water-resistance rating.
- Look closely at the trade-offs if bezel wear matters to you: WatchTime identifies aluminum, not ceramic, on the bezel scale it reviewed.
- Choose by exact variant if dial color, strap material, case material, or patina behavior matters. Steel and bronze models are materially distinct options.
- Try it on first if case presence and fit are decisive; the published 42 mm width cannot predict how the square form will feel on your wrist.
The BR 03-92 Diver’s defining strength is its unusual shape, backed by a conventional set of dive-watch functions and a substantial stated depth rating. Its aluminum bezel insert and bold square footprint are the main considerations to weigh against that design. The evidence here supports a specifications-based assessment, not a firsthand verdict on comfort, finishing, or performance.
