What the dimensions mean for fit and straps
The 47.66 mm lug-to-lug measurement is a useful fit reference, but it does not by itself determine how the watch will sit on a particular wrist. The listed 20 mm lug width makes a 20 mm strap a reasonable starting point when shopping; confirm compatibility with the specific watch version and strap before buying.
Is the Benrus Type I a real military watch?
There is a real military-specification connection, but it needs precise wording. BENRUS says the Type I collection was originally designed to meet U.S. Military MIL-W-50717 specifications. That provenance does not establish that the current consumer Type 1 MIL SPEC is identical to a vintage watch issued to military personnel. What does the “hands-on” coverage actually cover?
WatchTime’s hands-on article is about an earlier limited-edition Type I reissue, not the current Type 1 MIL SPEC. It reports that original Type I production ran from 1972 through 1980 and notes that the bi-directional bezel differs from modern dive-watch criteria. Why does the bi-directional bezel matter for diving?
A water-resistance figure and a bezel’s operating direction describe different aspects of a watch. BENRUS lists the current model’s rating as 36.5 ATM / 1,200 feet, but that is a manufacturer specification, not proof here of performance in a particular dive or independent testing. The same product page specifies a bi-directional bezel. Readers considering a watch for dive timing should weigh that design choice and the intended use alongside the stated rating, rather than treating the rating alone as a complete assessment of dive suitability.
