Bernhard H. Mayer is identified in a July 2021 interview with MONOCHROME Watches as the fourth-generation head of the family’s eponymous watch brand. Speaking with Xavier Markl, Mayer discussed the family enterprise’s origins, its development into watchmaking, the brand’s distribution approach, and its anniversary watches. How did the Bernhard H. Mayer enterprise develop?
In Mayer’s account, the original metal-engraving workshop expanded into coin and medal minting and the production of components for the watch industry. He dates the family’s move into coin watches to the early 1980s. In 2000, he says, the company formed a strategic partnership with QI Group and moved its base to Biel, Switzerland.

What were the 150th anniversary Bernhard H. Mayer watches?
The 2021 interview described two automatic limited editions commemorating the family enterprise’s 1871 founding. Both were reported as 43 mm watches with a commemorative coin on the dial. The article said the coin included a depiction of the historic Mayer factory building in Pforzheim.
