The Twelve South ButterFly 2-in-1 MagSafe Charger is the best 2-in-1 charger for most travelers: it folds compactly, charges an iPhone and Apple Watch simultaneously, includes a 30W power adapter with international plug heads, and supports both iPhone StandBy and Apple Watch Nightstand positioning. For a permanent nightstand or desk, the Belkin BoostCharge Pro 2-in-1 Wireless Charging Dock with MagSafe is the more stable choice. If your newer iPhone supports higher Qi2 speeds, compare the latest Belkin Qi2 25W foldable model—but do not assume every iPhone or Apple Watch can use its maximum output.
The right choice comes down to three questions: do you need a travel charger or a permanent stand, is Apple Watch fast charging important, and do you also want to charge AirPods?

Our recommendations
Best overall for travel: Twelve South ButterFly 2-in-1 MagSafe Charger
The ButterFly is the strongest all-round choice when an iPhone and Apple Watch need to share one compact travel kit. Its two halves fold together, making it suitable for a hotel nightstand, work bag, or tightly packed carry-on. Macworld reports dimensions of approximately 2.4 × 2.4 × 0.9 inches and a weight of about 4.2 ounces.

Its iPhone pad supports up to 15W MagSafe charging, while the Apple Watch module supports up to 5W fast charging. The Watch section can be positioned for Nightstand mode, and the iPhone can lie horizontally for StandBy mode. It can also charge an iPhone and AirPods instead of an Apple Watch, although it cannot charge all three at once.
The included 30W USB-C power adapter is a major advantage for travel. The original model is reported to include interchangeable US/Canada, UK, EU, and Australia/New Zealand plug heads, so it can eliminate the need for a separate international adapter.
The drawbacks are its premium price and two-device limit. Also check the listing carefully: the original ButterFly and the newer ButterFly SE are different products. The SE uses Qi2 and has been reported at around $99, while Macworld says it does not include the original model’s 30W wall charger. Do not assume their specifications or included accessories are interchangeable. See Macworld’s ButterFly review and Twelve South’s official site for the exact version.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Best bedside stand: Belkin BoostCharge Pro 2-in-1 Wireless Charging Dock with MagSafe
Choose this Belkin when the charger will remain on a desk or nightstand. Its weighted dock is more stable and convenient than a folding travel pad, with an adjustable iPhone charging surface and a separate Apple Watch shelf. The adjustable design is useful for landscape viewing and StandBy mode, while the Watch shelf is more accommodating of different band styles than some flat charging surfaces.
WIRED reports up to 15W MagSafe charging for the iPhone and an included 30W wall charger. The trade-offs are size, cost, and a permanently attached USB-C cable. That fixed cable keeps the setup tidy but cannot be replaced independently if it becomes damaged. It is also unnecessary overkill if you only want two flat charging surfaces.
For the current product details and regional availability, check Belkin and the WIRED charging-station comparison.
Best for newer iPhones: Belkin 2-in-1 Foldable Magnetic Charger with Qi2 25W
This foldable Belkin is the model to investigate if your iPhone supports the newer Qi2 25W charging profile. It combines magnetic alignment with a travel-friendly folding design and charges an iPhone and Apple Watch at the same time.
“Up to 25W” needs careful interpretation. It describes the charger’s maximum capability, not a universal speed for all iPhones. The phone model, charger certification, firmware, power adapter, and simultaneous charging behavior can all affect the result. Confirm the exact iPhone generations supported before buying, and check whether the Apple Watch puck supports fast charging for your Watch generation. Also verify whether the particular regional bundle includes a wall adapter. See Macworld’s MagSafe and Qi2 guide and Belkin’s official listing.
Best premium travel alternative: Native Union Voyage 2-in-1
The Native Union Voyage is a compact folding option for buyers who value design and travel organization. WIRED positions it as a premium alternative to the ButterFly, and its carrying pouch is useful for keeping the charger and cable together.
The important limitation for international travelers is the reported lack of plug adapters. Verify whether the current package includes a power adapter at all; a cable alone is not a complete charging kit. Confirm the current product name, charging speeds, compatibility, price, and availability on Native Union before ordering.

Best if Apple Watch fast charging is not essential: Zens 2-in-1 MagSafe + Watch Travel Charger
Zens offers a smaller travel-focused alternative for buyers who want to charge an iPhone and Apple Watch without paying for a larger stand. It can make sense when portability and purchase price matter more than rapid Watch top-ups.

Flat-pad option: verify the Belkin 2-in-1 Magnetic Charging Pad carefully
A flat Belkin pad can be attractive if you prefer the smallest desk footprint. WIRED reports Qi2 magnetic alignment with up to 15W iPhone charging, a USB-C port, a 5-foot USB-C cable, and a 30W power supply in the relevant package.
However, this product family illustrates why “2-in-1” needs a precise definition. If the Apple Watch must use your own separate charging cable or puck, it is not a self-contained iPhone-and-Apple-Watch charger. Buy it only when the exact retail package includes an Apple Watch charging module, or classify it as a phone pad with power for a second device.
What counts as a genuine 2-in-1 charger?
For this guide, a genuine 2-in-1 charger has an integrated iPhone charging surface and an integrated Apple Watch charging module, and both devices can charge simultaneously.
- Integrated 2-in-1: one product contains both charging functions.
- Partial 2-in-1: a wireless iPhone pad has a USB-C port, but you supply and connect your own Apple Watch cable or puck.
- 3-in-1 used as a 2-in-1: one station charges an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. This is a valid alternative, but you pay for a third charging position.
Two wireless pads do not automatically mean two-device Apple charging. Reject any product whose second surface cannot charge an Apple Watch.
MagSafe versus Qi2
MagSafe is Apple’s magnetic charging system for compatible iPhones and certified accessories. Qi2 also uses magnetic alignment, but the precise charging power depends on the phone, charger, certification, and product design.
A product described merely as “MagSafe compatible” is not necessarily an Apple-certified MagSafe charger. Likewise, Qi2 does not automatically mean 25W. Look for the charger’s stated maximum, the iPhone models eligible for that maximum, and whether the Watch module has its own fast-charging certification.
Your case matters. A thick case, metal plate, wallet attachment, or poorly aligned magnet can prevent charging or make it unreliable. Use a magnetic-compatible case or remove accessories while charging.

Compatibility guide
iPhone compatibility
Magnetic iPhone charging begins with the iPhone 12 generation and later models, but charging rates differ by generation and accessory. Newer iPhones may support higher MagSafe or Qi2 rates than older models. The charger’s advertised maximum is therefore only one part of the answer.

Before buying, confirm:
- your exact iPhone model is listed by the charger maker;
- whether the claimed 15W or 25W output applies to that model;
- whether your case supports magnetic alignment;
- that the included or separately purchased adapter meets the required wattage.
Do not infer Apple Watch compatibility from iPhone compatibility. They are separate charging systems.
Apple Watch compatibility
Apple Watch Series 7 and newer models commonly support fast charging when paired with an appropriate fast-charge-certified puck and power source. Older Watches may charge but generally do so more slowly. Apple Watch SE and Ultra compatibility should be checked against the specific charger’s product page rather than assumed from the name alone.
Fast charging is product-specific. WIRED reports that a Belkin 3-in-1 Qi2 stand fast-charges Apple Watch Series 7 or newer while older models charge more slowly, but that behavior should not be generalized to every charger in this list.

Watch bands can also interfere with charging. Rugged bands, fixed-loop designs, and bands that prevent the Watch from lying flat are better suited to a raised or adjustable charging module.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What “fast charging” actually tells you
There is no single universal “fast charging” category. Evaluate the two devices separately:
- iPhone: note the charger’s maximum wattage and the iPhone generations that can use it.
- Apple Watch: check whether the puck supports fast charging and which Watch generations qualify.
- Simultaneous output: verify whether both devices retain their advertised maximums when charging together.
- Power supply: confirm that the wall adapter provides enough power for the combined load.
The ButterFly is reported at up to 15W for iPhone and up to 5W for Apple Watch. A newer Qi2 charger may advertise 25W for the iPhone while retaining a 5W Watch module. Actual charging time can also change with battery level, temperature, case thickness, alignment, and thermal protection.
Stand or folding pad?
| Choose a stand if you want… | Choose a folding pad if you want… |
|---|---|
| Easy notification viewing and StandBy | Minimum packed size |
| A stable nightstand setup | A charger for frequent travel |
| Simple magnetic alignment | A lighter laptop-bag accessory |
| A Watch position suited to Nightstand mode | Flexible folding or flat orientations |
Stands are usually bulkier and can still conflict with some Watch bands or cases. Folding pads are more portable but may slide around, provide a less useful viewing angle, or sacrifice Watch fast charging to remain compact.
When a 3-in-1 is the better purchase
Buy a 3-in-1 instead when you own AirPods, want one cable and one wall outlet, need a permanent bedside station, or expect to add AirPods later. Current alternatives include Belkin’s Qi2 stands, ESR’s Qi2 3-in-1 stations, Nomad Stand One Max, Anker’s 3-in-1 Cube and Prime 3-in-1 station, and Satechi charging products. WIRED’s comparison covers several of these options.
Stay with a 2-in-1 when you do not own AirPods, want the smallest travel kit, prefer fewer charging surfaces, or are happy charging AirPods separately. A third charging spot is not automatically better if it adds cost and bulk without solving a problem.
Prices are unstable and region-specific. Source snapshots dated August 16, 2026 included promotional figures of approximately $73 for an ESR Qi2 3-in-1, $80 for a Belkin 3-in-1 Qi2 stand, $159 for Nomad Stand One Max, and approximately $150 for Anker’s Prime 3-in-1 station. Treat those as comparison signals, not guaranteed current prices.
Before you buy: a practical checklist
- Confirm the exact model and generation, especially original versus SE versions.
- Verify that the Apple Watch puck is integrated rather than sold separately.
- Check iPhone and Apple Watch maximum speeds independently.
- Confirm whether the wall adapter is included and whether it is powerful enough.
- Check whether the cable is detachable or permanently attached.
- Inspect international plug support if you travel abroad.
- Confirm compatibility with your case and Watch band.
- Check the manufacturer’s warranty, return policy, availability, and regional price.
Troubleshooting charging interruptions
- Remove the iPhone case, magnetic wallet, or metal accessory.
- Reposition the iPhone until the charging animation appears.
- Remove the Watch band or position the Watch puck upright.
- Test the charger with its supplied power adapter.
- If the cable is detachable, try another suitable USB-C cable.
- Allow the charger and devices to cool.
- Confirm that the charger supports your specific Apple Watch model.
- Contact the manufacturer if charging repeatedly starts and stops.
Wireless charging produces heat by nature. A warm charger is not automatically defective, but excessive heat, repeated disconnections, or charging that stops after a short period can indicate misalignment, an inadequate adapter, a foreign object, thermal protection, cable damage, or a hardware fault.
