It combines a titanium case, traditional field-watch design, an automatic H-10 movement, an 80-hour reserve, sapphire crystal and 100 m water resistance. That combination is unusually close to the brief.
The other credible choices solve different problems. Citizen’s Promaster Automatic Diver NB6004-83E favors depth rating over reserve length; the discontinued Promaster Skyhawk A-T JY0050-55L uses light-powered Eco-Drive and radio timekeeping rather than a mechanical reserve; and Seiko’s Prospex LX SNR051 offers a premium titanium tool-watch format with Spring Drive and roughly three days of autonomy. Use the comparison below to decide which compromise fits your wear pattern.

At a glance: four documented alternatives
These watches are not interchangeable. The Hamilton is the only model in this group that directly combines field-watch styling, titanium and a long automatic reserve. The Citizen diver is a functional alternative for someone who spends more time around water. The Skyhawk is a discontinued, light-powered instrument watch, while the Seiko is a larger, higher-end tool watch with a near three-day reserve.

What “long power reserve” actually means
On an automatic or hand-wound watch, the power reserve is the time the movement can continue after its mainspring has been fully wound and the watch is removed from the wrist. An 80-hour rating means a fully wound Hamilton can, in principle, run through a weekend and still be operating when put on again. The stated figure is a movement specification; actual duration depends on winding state, positional condition and the watch’s adjustment.
Solar watches use a different measure. Eco-Drive stores energy generated by natural or artificial light and uses that stored charge when the watch is away from light. Its reserve indicator tells you the state of that stored energy, not the capacity of an automatic caliber’s mainspring. Light intensity and exposure determine how quickly the watch replenishes, so do not compare the Skyhawk’s indicator directly with the Hamilton’s or Seiko’s hour figures.
Why the distinction matters in daily use
- Mechanical reserve: useful when you rotate watches and want to remove one for a day or two without resetting it.
- Solar autonomy: useful when you want to avoid routine winding and battery changes, provided the watch receives adequate light.
- Quartz or radio features: may reduce setting work, but they do not make a watch a mechanical field watch.
1. Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium Auto H70545550: the closest answer
Hamilton’s current-collection H70545550 is the strongest fit for the literal combination of requirements. The case is titanium, the design belongs to the Khaki Field family, and the automatic H-10 movement is specified with an 80-hour reserve. Sapphire crystal supplies the scratch resistance most buyers expect from a modern daily watch, while the 100 m rating covers ordinary swimming and wet-weather use when the crown and seals are in good condition.
Why it matches the field-watch brief
Field watches prioritize legibility, practical proportions and a restrained military-instrument vocabulary. The H70545550 keeps that identity instead of shifting toward a dive bezel, aviation calculator or luxury sports format. Its 42 mm diameter gives it a modern presence, but titanium reduces the weight relative to a comparable steel case. That lower mass can make a difference during long workdays, travel and outdoor use.
How the 80-hour reserve changes ownership
The H-10’s reserve is long enough for a typical Friday-to-Monday break. If you wear another watch over the weekend, you are less likely to find the Hamilton stopped on Monday morning. It is still an automatic mechanical watch: regular wear or manual winding is required to keep it running, and the reserve does not eliminate time-setting when the stored energy is exhausted.

What to verify before buying
- Confirm that the reference is exactly H70545550; nearby Khaki Field references can differ in case material, size, crystal or movement.
- Check the regional Hamilton page or authorized seller for current stock and the local price. The international product page reviewed for this guide does not establish a universal price.
- Inspect the titanium case and bracelet or strap for coating and surface marks under strong light. Titanium is light, but finishing and coatings vary by reference.
- Ask how water-resistance testing is handled after any caseback, crystal or crown service.
2. Citizen Promaster Automatic Diver NB6004-83E: choose water resistance over reserve
The NB6004-83E is the practical alternative when a 200 m diver’s rating matters more than a weekend-length reserve. Citizen specifies a Super Titanium case, automatic 9051 movement, sapphire crystal and 200 m water resistance. Its 42-hour reserve is respectable for a daily automatic, but it is substantially shorter than the Hamilton’s figure.
Where it excels
A dive-watch architecture brings features a field watch normally omits: a timing bezel, stronger underwater legibility and a case and gasket system designed around greater water pressure. If your “field” use includes frequent swimming, boating or surface-water work, those safeguards may be more valuable than an extra day and a half of stored mechanical energy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhy it is not a close stylistic substitute
The Promaster’s visual language is unmistakably that of a diver. The bezel, heavier case profile and water-oriented dial details make it a different category on the wrist. It can serve the same broad purpose—a durable, legible everyday watch—but it will not reproduce the understated field-watch look.
Availability warning
Citizen’s official page displayed this reference as sold out when checked. “Sold out” is not the same as discontinued, and inventory can differ by country. Verify a current listing, warranty coverage and the exact reference before paying a premium on the secondary market.
3. Citizen Promaster Skyhawk A-T JY0050-55L: a light-powered instrument watch
The JY0050-55L takes a fundamentally different route to low-maintenance ownership. Its Eco-Drive system converts natural or artificial light into electrical energy, and the watch adds radio timekeeping, a reserve indicator and a 200 m water-resistance rating. Citizen’s specification identifies the crystal as mineral.

When this option makes sense
Choose the Skyhawk if your priority is minimizing winding, battery replacement and manual time correction. Regular exposure to daylight or indoor light keeps the system charged, and radio synchronization can correct the displayed time when reception and regional support permit. The reserve indicator gives a quick warning when stored energy is falling.
Why it should not be ranked by “hours” beside mechanical watches
Eco-Drive autonomy depends on how much light reaches the dial and how efficiently the internal cell is charged. A mechanical watch’s advertised hours describe stored mainspring energy after winding. They answer different questions, so the Skyhawk is best evaluated by charging habits and feature needs rather than by placing its reserve indicator on the same scale as 42, 72 or 80 hours.
Discontinued-model buying checklist
- Confirm that the seller identifies the watch as JY0050-55L, not a visually similar Skyhawk reference.
- Ask for the production condition, service history and any evidence that the rechargeable cell still holds a charge.
- Check the mineral crystal for scratches, since it is less scratch-resistant than sapphire.
- Verify that radio-timekeeping coverage and functions work in your region.
- Ensure the seller provides a return period; discontinued electronics can be expensive to diagnose if the charging system or display fails.
4. Seiko Prospex LX SNR051: a premium, larger tool-watch direction
The SNR051 is the outlier in this comparison. Seiko specifies a titanium case with a super-hard coating, Spring Drive 5R66 movement and approximately 72 hours of reserve, along with a 10 bar rating. At 44.8 mm, it is broad and substantial, and its 24-hour bezel pushes the design toward a global tool watch rather than a conventional field watch.
What the Spring Drive reserve offers
The near-three-day autonomy gives similar practical scheduling benefits to the Hamilton: a short break from the wrist should not immediately stop the watch. Spring Drive combines a mainspring with an electronic regulating system, so its operating principle differs from a conventional automatic such as the H-10 or 9051. The reserve figure still describes stored mechanical energy, but the movement category and service requirements are different.
Who should consider it
This model suits someone who wants titanium lightness, a high-end movement and a larger presence, and who accepts that those qualities move the watch away from classic field-watch proportions. Measure your wrist and compare lug-to-lug fit before buying; diameter alone does not predict how a 44.8 mm case will wear.

How to choose among them
| Your priority | Most logical choice | Reason | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Field-watch appearance plus the longest verified mechanical reserve | Hamilton H70545550 | Only documented option combining the category, titanium and 80-hour automatic specification | Less water resistance than the diver and availability varies by region |
| Frequent swimming or water exposure | Citizen NB6004-83E | 200 m rating and sapphire crystal provide a water-oriented package | Shorter mechanical reserve and diver styling |
| Minimal winding and automatic time correction | Citizen JY0050-55L | Eco-Drive and radio features reduce routine intervention | Discontinued, mineral crystal and not a mechanical field watch |
| Premium movement and roughly three days of mechanical autonomy | Seiko SNR051 | Spring Drive 5R66 and approximately 72-hour specification | Largest case, higher-end positioning and 24-hour bezel |
Case material, size and comfort
Titanium’s principal advantage here is low mass. A lighter case can reduce fatigue and watch movement during active work, but comfort depends on the complete watch: bracelet links, clasp, strap stiffness, lug shape and case thickness all matter. A titanium case on a heavy bracelet may not feel as light as expected.
The documented sizes span a normal modern field-watch diameter to a notably broad tool-watch format. Measure your wrist circumference and, if possible, try the watch with the intended strap. A watch that overhangs the wrist or whose lugs point sharply downward can feel less comfortable than a smaller steel alternative, regardless of the material’s density.
Surface treatment and marks
The Seiko specification explicitly mentions a super-hard coating. Citizen describes its Super Titanium as at least five times harder than stainless steel on its technology material; that is a manufacturer claim, not an independent comparative test and should not be generalized to every titanium watch. Do not assume that all titanium cases resist scratches in the same way. Ask whether a finish is bare metal, bead-blasted, polished or coated, and whether the manufacturer can refinish it.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Water resistance: read the rating correctly
Water-resistance numbers describe pressure testing under specified conditions, not a guarantee for every activity or every age of watch. The Hamilton’s 100 m rating is suitable for routine water exposure when seals are sound. The Citizen diver’s 200 m rating is the more appropriate starting point for serious water use. The Seiko’s 10 bar specification is equivalent to the stated 100 m class, while the Skyhawk is specified at 200 m.

- Do not operate crowns or pushers while submerged.
- Have seals checked after opening the case or replacing a crystal.
- Rinse salt or chlorinated water from the case and bracelet with fresh water, then dry it.
- Treat an older or recently serviced watch according to the service center’s pressure-test result, not only its original rating.
Mechanical reserve versus real ownership habits
A longer rating reduces interruptions but does not remove maintenance. Automatic watches still need periodic cleaning, lubrication and regulation according to the manufacturer’s service guidance. If a watch stops, winding it gently and setting the time is normal; repeatedly forcing the crown or winding against resistance is not.

Reserve also depends on how fully the mainspring is wound. Casual desk wear may not provide the same winding input as an active day, so a watch can stop sooner than the headline figure if it was never fully wound. Conversely, leaving a watch on a winder is not automatically better: unnecessary continuous motion adds wear without improving the stated reserve.
Buying and verification checklist
- Define the power source. Decide whether you need a mechanical reserve for rotation or the low-intervention behavior of solar power.
- Confirm the reference. Read the complete alphanumeric model number on the case, warranty card and seller’s invoice.
- Match the case to your wrist. Compare diameter, lug span and thickness, not diameter alone.
- Check crystal material. Sapphire is generally preferred for scratch resistance; mineral crystal can be polished or replaced more easily but marks sooner.
- Choose water resistance for actual use. Do not buy a diver solely for a larger number if you never swim, and do not treat a field watch as a dive instrument.
- Verify current status. Hamilton identifies H70545550 as current collection; Citizen identifies JY0050-55L as discontinued and showed NB6004-83E sold out on the pages checked in October 2026. Recheck local status immediately before purchase.
- Get written warranty terms. Confirm who performs warranty work, where the watch must be shipped and whether water-resistance testing is included after service.
- Inspect a used example. Look for caseback opening marks, crown damage, uneven hand alignment, condensation under the crystal and a reserve that falls well short of the stated specification.
What the available evidence can—and cannot—tell you
The cited manufacturer pages establish the listed materials, movements, reserves, dimensions and ratings. They do not provide a standardized head-to-head accuracy test, independent durability study or market-wide ranking. No owner-wear data or laboratory comparison was identified for these four references, so claims about one being universally tougher, more accurate or longer-lasting would go beyond the documented evidence.
Availability and prices are especially volatile. The Hamilton page reviewed was an international product page, the Citizen diver page showed sold-out status, and the Skyhawk page marked the model discontinued. Check the local manufacturer site and seller documentation on the day you buy, and treat any secondary-market premium as a market condition rather than a specification of the watch.
Bottom line
Buy the Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium Auto H70545550 if you want the closest verified answer to a lightweight field watch with a genuinely long mechanical reserve. Move to Citizen’s NB6004-83E when 200 m water resistance and diver construction outweigh the shorter reserve. Consider the discontinued Skyhawk only if solar charging, radio timekeeping and low routine intervention matter more than mechanical authenticity. Choose Seiko’s SNR051 when you want premium Spring Drive technology and near-three-day autonomy and are comfortable with a much larger, more specialized tool-watch design.
