For the lightest conventional watch here, choose the Casio F-91W-1; for a published 100 m water-resistance rating and more features, consider the W-800H-1BV. The A168WEHA-9A adds a metal bracelet, while the smaller GMD-S5600 keeps the G-Shock identity. Casio’s DWN-5600 is a ring-sized novelty, not a wristwatch substitute.
How to choose a DW-5600 alternative
The DW-5600 combines a square digital design with G-Shock shock resistance and 20-bar water resistance. The options below do not all reproduce that package. Decide which quality matters most before comparing case measurements: a small everyday digital watch is not automatically as rugged as a G-Shock.

- Small and light: Look at the F-91W-1.
- More functions and a stated water rating: The W-800H-1BV offers 100 m water resistance and dual time, but has a larger, thicker case than the F-91W.
- Metal-bracelet styling: The A168WEHA-9A prioritizes a vintage look over minimum weight.
- A smaller G-Shock square: Casio describes the GMD-S5600 as a slimmer, more compact 5600 with shock-resistant construction.
- A tiny G-Shock-inspired object: The DWN-5600 is made to be worn on a finger, not as a normal wristwatch.

Best conventional alternatives
Casio F-91W-1: the lightest, slimmest choice
At 38.2 × 35.2 × 8.5 mm and 21 g, the F-91W-1 is the most compact and lightest conventional alternative with measurements established here. Its resin case and band, stopwatch, daily alarm, hourly time signal, LED light, auto-calendar, and 12/24-hour format cover everyday digital-watch basics. Casio estimates about seven years of battery life on a CR2016.
#1 Best Overall
- Micro Light, Hourly Time Signal, Auto Calendar
- 12/24 Hour Formats
- Dial Code: Digital
- Water Resistant
- Daily Alarm
Choose it for a low-profile, lightweight watch—not as a substitute for a shock-resistant G-Shock. Casio’s cited F-91W page describes it as water resistant but does not publish a meter depth rating or a shock-resistance claim. That distinction matters if your reason for buying a DW-5600 is protection from impacts or a clearly stated water rating.
Casio W-800H-1BV: more features and 100 m water resistance
The W-800H-1BV is larger and thicker than the F-91W-1, measuring 44.2 × 36.8 × 13.4 mm and weighing 37 g. In return, Casio lists 100 m water resistance, dual time, a stopwatch, a multi-function alarm with snooze, an LED backlight, and a full auto-calendar through 2099. Its listed battery estimate is approximately 10 years on a CR2025.

- AN ICON SINCE 1989 — THE WORLD'S MOST POPULAR DIGITAL WATCH — Introduced in June 1989 as a successor to the F-87W, the F-91W is popular for its low price, long battery life, and iconic design. As of 2026, production of the watch has reached 100 million units, making it the most sold watch in the world. A timeless design, unchanged since launch, that has earned a global cult following across generations.
- FEATHERLIGHT & SLIM — Urethane resin is employed for the case and band, and the module features a reduced number of components — every element of construction was reconsidered to secure high quality at an affordable price, resulting in a global hit watch that offers both affordability and long-lasting reliability. The case measures 38.2 × 35.2 × 8.5mm and weighs just 21 grams — barely noticeable on the wrist.
- 1/100-SECOND STOPWATCH WITH SPLIT TIME — The 1/100-second stopwatch covers elapsed time, split time, and 1st-2nd place timing up to 59'59.99" — precise enough for sports, training, cooking, and any timed activity. Handy features for day-to-day life also include a daily alarm, water resistance, and LED light functions.
- DAILY ALARM | HOURLY CHIME | AUTO-CALENDAR | LED LIGHT — Module 593 delivers functions for a daily alarm, chronograph/stopwatch, annual calendar, and hourly chime, with selectable 12 or 24-hour format. The auto-calendar and LED backlight round out a complete, practical feature set in a package that fits any wrist from 145 to 200mm.
- 7-YEAR BATTERY | MODULE 593 | 18MM LUG WIDTH — Powered by a CR2016 battery with an approximate 7-year life — often lasting 10 or more years in practice. The F-91W has an 18mm lug width, meaning standard 18mm NATO straps fit directly without any modification — making it one of the most customizable and mod-friendly watches available at any price point.
It is a practical option if you want a relatively compact digital watch with a larger display, useful functions, and a published water-resistance figure. The 100 m rating does not make it a G-Shock or establish shock resistance; Casio’s cited specification does not list a shock-resistance claim.
Casio A168WEHA-9A: vintage styling with a metal bracelet
The A168WEHA-9A measures 38.6 × 36.3 × 9.6 mm, but its stainless steel band brings the listed weight to 49 g—more than twice the F-91W-1. Its adjustable clasp and EL blue backlight give it a distinct metal-bracelet, retro feel. The feature set includes a stopwatch, daily alarm, hourly signal, and an approximately seven-year battery estimate on a CR2016.

- Water resistant, not water proof, do not submerge in water, digital sport watch in rectangle case, alarm, chronograph functions, and night light, quartz movement with digital display
- Measuring modes include net time, split time, and first and second place times, functions include digital stopwatch, hourly time signal, auto calendar, and day/date.
- Quartz Movement
- Case Diameter: 33mm
- Not water resistant
This is the style-led choice, not the lightest one. Casio’s cited product page calls it water resistant but gives no meter depth, so do not treat it as having the same published water rating as the W-800H or the G-Shock square family.

Casio GMD-S5600: retain the G-Shock square identity
If the main reason for choosing the DW-5600 is its rugged square form, the GMD-S5600 series is the closest direction to investigate. Casio describes it as a “slimmer, more compact take on the 5600” with the same iconic form and shock-resistant structure as regular-sized models. The 5000/5600 series page also discusses 20-bar water resistance as a family feature.

- Water Resistant, LED light

- Calendar, 12/24-hour format
- Approx. battery life: 7 years on CR2016
- Case diameter: 30.0 millimeters
The cited series information does not establish exact GMD-S5600 dimensions, weight, or every model-specific feature. Specifications can vary by variant and market, so check the official listing for the exact regional reference before relying on a measurement or function. Casio’s 5000/5600 series page is the source for the series description.
Casio DWN-5600: a finger-worn miniature, not a wristwatch
The DWN-5600 is a ring-sized recreation—Casio says it is about one-tenth the size of a regular 5600—not a smaller watch for the wrist. Its official specifications list 23.4 × 20 × 7.5 mm, 6 g, a 48–82 mm band-size range, shock resistance, and 200 m water resistance. It includes dual time, a stopwatch, an LED backlight, and an approximate two-year battery estimate on an SR621SW.

- - Back: Stainless steel back
Consider it as a novelty, collectible, or finger-worn timepiece. Its miniature format makes it unsuitable as a like-for-like wristwatch alternative, even though it retains G-Shock features. See Casio’s DWN-5600-1 specifications.
What the DW-5600 toughness evidence does—and does not—show
Casio’s page for the specific DW5600UBB-1 describes a laboratory program conducted with Element that assessed selected MIL-STD-810 environmental and dynamics tests. The listed test areas include low-pressure altitude, blowing rain, salt fog, freeze/thaw, random vibration, mechanical shock, high and low temperature, immersion, aggravated humidity, solar radiation, and blowing dust.
This is evidence about the named DW5600UBB-1 and the selected tests in that program. It is not a blanket MIL-STD-810 certification for every DW-5600, nor a comparative test showing that the alternative watches passed the same program. Casio’s account is available on its DW5600UBB-1 test page.
