What a power-reserve figure tells you
Power reserve is the time a watch continues to function before it needs winding again. Jaeger-LeCoultre defines it as “The time the watch will continue to function before rewinding is necessary.” A longer reserve is useful if you alternate watches or take one off for several days, but the published duration is a specification—not a guarantee that every wearer will get exactly that runtime in daily use.
Grand Seiko says that around 40–50 hours was typical for a mechanical watch in the 1990s. That is historical context from its technical-history page, not a survey of today’s watch market.

How to choose between a 70- and 120-hour reserve
Choose 70 hours for a weekend gap
A 70-hour reserve is positioned to bridge a full weekend off the wrist. Jaeger-LeCoultre says its Master Control Chronometre Date Power Reserve can be set aside for the weekend and worn again Monday without correcting indications. That claim is the brand’s own description of the watch’s use case, not an independent test.
Choose 120 hours to extend the rotation
Five days on the stated specification gives more leeway when a watch stays unworn for longer than a weekend. The Blancpain is a specific 120-hour watch reference; Baumatic and Grand Seiko’s 9RA2/9RA5 are movement-family examples, so identify the exact watch variant before treating either movement as a product recommendation.

Compare the watch, not just the hours
The cited models make clear why reserve duration alone does not settle suitability. The Jaeger-LeCoultre is a relatively slim 39 mm steel watch with 5 bar water resistance and date and reserve indications.
