The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 40 mm is the clearest entry-level Swiss automatic pick here: its official US listing specifies a Swiss automatic movement, sapphire crystal, 100 m water resistance and an 80-hour power reserve. The US product page displayed $850 on October 7, 2026. If you prefer a more water-oriented sport watch, consider the Certina DS Action Day-Date; for a field-watch look, the Hamilton Khaki Field family is worth exploring, but confirm the exact automatic reference and its price before buying.
These are different kinds of watches, not interchangeable winners. Choose by design, fit and intended use, then verify the current local price and terms for the precise reference.

Manufacturer specifications in the table apply to the cited references, not every watch in each collection. The PRX figure is a dated US price listing, not a guarantee of current price or availability.
Why the Tissot PRX is the clearest lead choice
The cited PRX combines an automatic movement and an 80-hour reserve with a sapphire crystal and 100 m water-resistance rating. Tissot describes the movement as having a Nivachron hairspring, but that is the manufacturer’s product claim, not an independent performance test. The reserve tells you how long a fully wound watch can run off the wrist before stopping; it does not establish accuracy or durability.

Its integrated-bracelet design is also its main fit consideration. The bracelet is part of the watch’s visual identity, but it can restrict generic strap choices compared with a watch using ordinary strap attachments. Tissot lists compatible quick-release straps for the PRX; check availability and compatibility for the exact reference before relying on a future strap change.
A retailer guide published by VISSO on September 25, 2026 listed PRX variants at €750 and €822. Those are examples from a European retailer guide, not current universal prices or a substitute for checking the exact reference, seller and local terms.

When the Certina DS Action Day-Date makes more sense
The cited Certina is a sportier alternative with a 41 mm case, day-date display and manufacturer-stated 200 m water resistance. Its Powermatic 80.621 automatic calibre is listed with an 80-hour reserve, and the watch has a sapphire crystal. Certina’s official page is regional, so its specifications should not be mistaken for a price or availability quote in your market.
The 200 m rating is higher than the cited PRX’s 100 m rating, but neither number describes the condition of an individual watch years later. Water resistance depends on seals remaining sound; follow the manufacturer’s water-use guidance and have an older or compromised watch checked before exposing it to water.

What to know about the Hamilton Khaki Field option
The Khaki Field family offers a field-watch direction if you prioritize a straightforward, legible design over an integrated-bracelet sports look. Hamilton’s cited collection page does not establish a single exact entry-level automatic reference or a current price, and WatchPro’s January 8, 2025 article discusses both automatic and hand-wound models in the family. Before comparing it with the Tissot or Certina, select an exact automatic reference and verify its official product specifications and current local price.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose the right one for your wrist and budget
Start with style and intended use
- Choose the PRX if its integrated-bracelet sports-watch design is the one you want.
- Choose the Certina if the sport/day-date format and its stated 200 m rating are more relevant to you.
- Investigate a specific Khaki Field automatic if you prefer field-watch styling; the family name alone does not identify one set of specifications.
Assess fit beyond case diameter
The cited cases are 40 mm for the PRX and 41 mm for the Certina, but diameter alone does not determine how a watch wears. Check lug-to-lug length, thickness and bracelet shape where those details are available, and try the watch on if possible. A one-millimetre difference in stated diameter does not by itself tell you which will feel better.
Rank #4
- Case Size: 40.00 mm, Band Width: 20 mm, Case Thickness: 10.23 mm
- Automatic movement, leather strap, Index dial type, Date
- Water-resistant up to a pressure of 5 bar (50 m / 165 ft): suitable for short periods of recreational swimming and showering, but no diving or snorkeling.
Compare ownership terms, not just the headline price
Before purchase, compare the exact reference’s current local authorized-retailer price, taxes, delivery, warranty and service terms. No independently verified service-cost comparison for these precise recommendations is established here, so it would be misleading to call one the cheapest to own. Also confirm replacement-strap availability if you want flexibility, especially with an integrated bracelet.
An automatic movement is not automatically a better value than quartz for every buyer. This shortlist is for readers who want a Swiss automatic; it does not establish that a mechanical watch is more accurate or requires less maintenance.
