The best band for a Garmin Forerunner is the one listed as compatible with your exact model and case size. Check the band width and whether the watch uses Garmin Quick Release or QuickFit before choosing a material or color: those attachment systems are different, and a matching width alone does not guarantee a fit.
How to check whether a band fits your Forerunner
- Identify the exact watch model and size. Check the model name and case-size variant in the watch settings, on the case, or in its documentation. Do not rely on the Forerunner family name alone.
- Look up the band width for that variant. Use the model’s Garmin manual or an official band listing. For example, Garmin’s Forerunner 570 manual specifies 20 mm bands for the 42 mm model and 22 mm bands for the 47 mm model: Forerunner 570 owner’s manual.
- Confirm the attachment system. Garmin lists QuickFit and Quick Release separately; the terms are not interchangeable. Check the manual or a compatible-band listing for your exact watch before ordering: Garmin band and QuickFit guidance.
- Check whether installation requires a different pin. Follow the instructions for your model, especially when moving from its original band to another attachment style.
Garmin’s official 20 mm and 22 mm quick-release listings illustrate why it matters to match the size and watch variant rather than shop by width alone: 20 mm quick-release band and 22 mm quick-release band.
Quick Release versus QuickFit
Quick Release
Quick Release is a distinct band system. When Garmin lists a Quick Release band as compatible with your exact Forerunner model, it can be a straightforward replacement option. Still verify the model and width; a 20 mm band is not a universal fit for every watch.
QuickFit
QuickFit is Garmin’s proprietary system, not another name for Quick Release. Installation can involve hardware changes. In the Forerunner 970 manual, Garmin instructs users fitting QuickFit 22 bands to remove the pin from the Forerunner band, replace the watch pin on the device, then press the new band into place. That procedure is specific to the manual’s watch and should not be assumed for other Forerunners: Forerunner 970 manual.

Choosing material and style after compatibility
Garmin’s catalog includes silicone and leather quick-release bands, and QuickFit choices in silicone, nylon, metal, and premium leather. The available materials and colors vary by category and region, and listings can change. Compare options only after confirming that the band’s system and size match your watch: Garmin watch bands.
- Silicone: an official option in both Quick Release and QuickFit categories.
- Leather: available in Garmin’s quick-release range; premium leather is also offered among QuickFit options.
- Nylon and metal: available among QuickFit choices.
There is no established universal winner for comfort or durability. Choose based on the material and look you prefer, while treating the exact compatibility listing as the deciding factor.

Do you need a replacement pin or spring bar?
Not necessarily: first check the installation directions and included hardware for the specific band and watch. Garmin says its QuickFit spring bars are designed for QuickFit bands and publishes a compatible-watch list for QuickFit 22 mm pins. Do not treat a spring bar as a generic substitute based only on its width: Garmin QuickFit spring bars.
