If you want a mechanical pilot chronograph with the Navitimer’s aviation character but not necessarily its flight-calculation bezel, start with the Longines Spirit Pilot Flyback. Its 39.50 mm case is substantially smaller than the cited 46 mm Navitimer, and it adds a flyback chronograph. But Longines does not describe its bezel as a slide rule, so it is an alternative in the broader pilot-chronograph category—not a functional replacement for the Navitimer’s calculator.
What makes the Navitimer distinctive?
The Navitimer pairs a chronograph stopwatch with a bidirectional circular slide-rule bezel. By aligning its scales, a wearer can work through calculations such as speed, distance, fuel consumption, climb or descent rate, and unit conversions. It is an analog calculation aid, not an electronic calculator. Breitling says Willy Breitling developed a wrist-worn chronograph with a circular slide rule in 1952 and that AOPA announced it as its official timepiece two years later; that chronology is Breitling’s account of the watch’s history. A chronograph measures elapsed time while the watch continues keeping time. A slide-rule bezel is a separate feature: a watch can have a pilot-style dial and chronograph without offering the Navitimer’s calculation scales.
The closest researched alternative: Longines Spirit Pilot Flyback
The Longines Spirit Pilot Flyback (reference L3.721.4.93.6) is the strongest direct comparison established by the available manufacturer specifications. It is a manually wound mechanical chronograph with a flyback function and a bidirectional rotating bezel. Longines does not identify that bezel as a slide rule, so do not assume it can perform the Navitimer’s flight-related calculations. Longines Spirit Pilot Flyback, US listing

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Flyback is a meaningful chronograph distinction: Longines describes it as allowing successive timing intervals to be restarted in one operation. Breitling says its traditional B01 chronograph must be stopped before resetting, while a flyback chronograph can be reset while running. Longines also traces its first flyback-equipped model to the early 1930s and dates its flyback patent to June 16, 1936; those are the manufacturer’s heritage claims.

IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41
The IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 (reference IW388103) is another model to consider if you prefer a more restrained pilot-watch design rather than the Navitimer’s busy slide-rule dial. IWC positions it as versatile and sporty. The cited official US-English page does not establish enough technical specifications or pricing for a like-for-like comparison here, and it does not establish a slide-rule bezel. Check IWC’s current product details, price, and regional availability before deciding. IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41, official US-English product page

- You need the calculation bezel: Choose the Navitimer among these researched references. The Longines and IWC are pilot-chronograph alternatives, but a slide-rule function is not established for either.
- You want flyback timing: The Longines has the documented flyback function, which can restart timing in one operation.
- You want a smaller listed case diameter: The cited Longines is 39.50 mm versus 46 mm for the cited Navitimer. Diameter alone does not establish fit; the cited Navitimer thickness is 13.95 mm, while the cited Longines listing does not state thickness.
- You compare water resistance: The cited Longines is rated 10 bar and the cited Navitimer 3 bar / 30 m. Treat those ratings as specifications and follow each maker’s use guidance.
- You compare price: First check both watches in the same currency, country, tax basis, and date. The cited prices come from Portugal-English and US listings respectively, so they do not establish which is cheaper in a particular buyer’s market.
Bottom line on the alternatives
The Longines Spirit Pilot Flyback is the most substantiated alternative here if you want a mechanical pilot chronograph with a smaller listed case and flyback timing. If the Navitimer’s circular slide rule is the reason you want one, treat that feature as a must-check rather than assuming that an aviation look or rotating bezel provides the same function. The IWC is a broader design alternative, but the cited information is not enough for a detailed specifications or price comparison.
