Best Smart Rings for Advanced Health Monitoring in 2025: ECG, Blood Oxygen, and More (US)

Oura Ring 4 is the best overall wellness pick, Samsung Galaxy Ring suits Galaxy owners, RingConn leads on no-subscription value and battery life, and Circular Ring 2 offers a wellness-oriented ECG. Here is what each ring can—and cannot—measure in the US.

The Oura Ring 4 is the best overall choice for advanced wellness monitoring in the US, but no mainstream consumer ring in this comparison should be treated as a general-purpose medical device. Oura offers the broadest documented combination of sleep, recovery, heart-rate, HRV, temperature, activity, and overnight blood-oxygen trends. Samsung Galaxy Ring is the better fit for compatible Galaxy-phone owners; RingConn offers the clearest no-subscription alternatives; and Circular Ring 2 is the ECG-oriented option. The ECG, SpO2, and apnea-related features described below can provide useful personal trends, but they are not automatically FDA-cleared diagnoses.

Short answer: The Oura Ring 4 is the best overall smart ring for broad sleep, recovery, heart-rate, HRV, temperature, activity, and overnight blood-oxygen trends. It is a wellness wearable, not a diagnostic medical device, and its full app experience requires an Oura membership. Samsung Galaxy owners should look first at the Samsung Galaxy Ring. For a no-subscription ring, the RingConn Gen 2 Air is the value pick, while the RingConn Gen 2 is the better choice for more aggressive overnight oxygen-drop tracking. The Circular Ring 2 is the most interesting ECG-oriented option, but its own guide says that its single-lead ECG is for wellness tracking and is not a diagnostic tool.

The most important qualification is in the title: these are not broadly interchangeable with medical equipment. Consumer rings can collect sophisticated optical, temperature, motion, and—in Circular’s case—electrical data. That does not mean they are authorized to diagnose sleep apnea, atrial fibrillation, heart disease, glucose problems, or any other condition.

1. Oura Ring 4: best overall for broad wellness monitoring

The Oura Ring 4 is the safest overall recommendation when the goal is not one isolated measurement but a useful picture of sleep, recovery, activity, and cardiovascular-related trends. Oura documents overnight blood-oxygen sensing, 24/7 heart-rate tracking, HRV, sleep analysis, temperature trends, stress, activity, cardiovascular-age estimates, and cardio-capacity features.

Its sensor package includes red and infrared LEDs for overnight blood oxygen, green and infrared photoplethysmography sensors for heart rate and HRV, a digital temperature sensor, and an accelerometer for movement and activity. Oura’s SpO2 feature focuses on sleep and reports average oxygen and breathing-regularity information. That makes it more useful for looking at recurring patterns than for reacting to one isolated number.

The trade-off is cost. Oura lists US membership at $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year. New members receive one included month under the stated membership terms, after which the membership is needed for the full app experience. The ring works with iOS and Android, which makes it the most broadly compatible recommendation in this group, but the recurring fee materially changes its long-term value.

Oura explicitly says the ring is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, monitor, or prevent medical conditions. It is therefore a strong wellness tracker, not a diagnostic ECG or a replacement for a clinical pulse oximeter.

Buy it if: you want the most mature sleep-and-recovery ecosystem and are willing to pay for the software.

Skip it if: you want a subscription-free experience, a documented ECG sensor, or a device intended for clinical measurements.

2. Samsung Galaxy Ring: best for Samsung Galaxy owners

The Samsung Galaxy Ring is the most logical choice for someone already invested in Samsung’s phone and health ecosystem. Samsung lists the US ring from $299.99 and identifies three principal sensor types: an accelerometer, an optical bio-signal sensor, and a skin-temperature sensor.

Through Samsung Health, the ring supports heart-rate, blood-oxygen, sleep, activity, energy, and cycle-related features. Samsung’s support documentation says sleep tracking can incorporate heart rate, blood oxygen, and skin temperature. This makes Galaxy Ring a legitimate blood-oxygen and sleep-tracking option, but its usefulness depends more heavily on the surrounding Samsung hardware and software than Oura’s does.

Expect to need a compatible Galaxy phone, a Samsung account, and Samsung Health. Some insights depend on compatible Galaxy AI hardware or software. Before buying, check the exact phone model and software requirements rather than assuming that any Android phone will provide the complete feature set.

Do not confuse Galaxy Ring with a Samsung Galaxy Watch. Samsung’s FDA-cleared ECG materials concern compatible Galaxy Watch and phone combinations. The Galaxy Ring product documentation reviewed here identifies an optical bio-signal sensor, not an ECG electrode system. Samsung also says its heart-rate software is not intended for diagnosis or treatment.

Buy it if: you use a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone and want ring-based health trends inside Samsung Health without an Oura-style membership.

3. RingConn Gen 2: best for battery life and oxygen-drop insights

The RingConn Gen 2 is the more ambitious RingConn model for readers who care particularly about overnight oxygen data and long battery life. Its US product information lists a price of $299, up to 12 days of battery life, titanium construction, iOS and Android compatibility, and IP68 water resistance.

RingConn advertises high-frequency SpO2 monitoring and counts oxygen drops of 3% or more during sleep. The company presents these oxygen-drop measurements as useful for identifying possible apnea-related episodes. That wording matters: the feature may help identify a pattern worth discussing with a clinician, but it is not a standalone diagnosis of sleep apnea and should not be described as FDA-cleared apnea detection without separate regulatory evidence.

The ring also tracks heart rate, HRV, respiratory rate, temperature, sleep, and activity. No ECG is documented in the reviewed product material. RingConn advertises the Gen 2 without a subscription, so its ownership cost is simpler than Oura’s, although the app experience and insight quality should still be considered separately from the absence of a monthly fee.

Buy it if: you want a no-subscription ring with long battery life and more prominent overnight oxygen-drop analysis.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Skip it if: you specifically need an ECG sensor or are looking for a clinically validated sleep-apnea test.

4. RingConn Gen 2 Air: best lower-cost no-subscription option

The RingConn Gen 2 Air is the budget-oriented model, listed by RingConn at $199 with up to 10 days of battery life. It uses PPG sensors, temperature sensors, and a three-axis accelerometer for essential daily health insights. Its documented tracking includes heart rate, blood oxygen, temperature, sleep, and activity trends.

The key distinction from the Gen 2 is not cosmetic. RingConn’s official comparison marks sleep-apnea monitoring as unavailable on the Gen 2 Air. Do not buy the Air expecting the Gen 2’s oxygen-drop feature simply because both rings measure SpO2.

Gen 2 Air has no ECG documented in the reviewed material. It is compatible with iOS and Android, and RingConn advertises it without a subscription. At $199, it is the clearest choice for someone who wants basic overnight and daily trends at a lower upfront price and does not need the Gen 2’s more advanced oxygen-drop analysis.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Buy it if: your priorities are sleep, heart rate, temperature, activity, and basic SpO2 trends without monthly fees.

Skip it if: you want ECG, the Gen 2’s oxygen-drop or apnea-related insights, or a device with established clinical diagnostic status.

5. Circular Ring 2: best ECG-oriented consumer ring

The Circular Ring 2 is the standout for shoppers who specifically want an ECG sensor in a ring. Circular lists the ring at $349 and describes a single-lead ECG, AFib-related detection, blood oxygenation, heart rate, HRV, breathing rate, temperature, sleep, activity, and recovery features. Its core experience is advertised as subscription-free.

Circular’s user guide provides the more important context. Ring 2 uses a single-lead ECG sensor for spot heart recordings, along with PPG, red/infrared/green oximeter LEDs, temperature, and accelerometer sensors. The guide says the ECG is designed for wellness tracking and that the ring is not a medical device or diagnostic tool.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That means Circular is the most interesting consumer option for recording an electrical heart signal, but not automatically the best option for anyone with a suspected rhythm disorder. The words ECG, AFib detection, clinical-level, or medical-grade in product marketing do not by themselves prove US FDA authorization for a medical indication. A ring can record a waveform or flag an unusual pattern without being authorized to diagnose it.

Buy it if: you want a subscription-free ring with a documented single-lead ECG for personal wellness tracking.

Skip it if: you need a medically authorized ECG interpretation, are buying it to diagnose AFib, or want the most mature sleep-and-recovery ecosystem.

6. Happy Ring and Happy Sleep: a regulated path to watch

Happy Ring / Happy Sleep belongs in a separate category from the mainstream wellness products above. FDA records show a 510(k) clearance dated September 24, 2024 for the Happy Ring Health Monitoring System, identified as a Class II cardiac-monitor-related device.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A separate FDA document for Happy Health’s home sleep-test software identifies compatible ring hardware that uses optical plethysmography and an accelerometer. That makes Happy Health relevant to readers specifically looking for a medical-monitoring pathway rather than a general wellness ring.

However, an FDA clearance record for a particular system does not mean every feature of every Happy product—or every consumer smart ring—is FDA-cleared. The reviewed material does not establish current US consumer availability, prescription requirements, insurance coverage, pricing, or affiliate eligibility. Treat Happy Ring as a product and clinical-access option to investigate, not as a normal mass-market shopping recommendation.

What ECG and blood oxygen really mean on a smart ring

An ECG sensor is not the same as an FDA-cleared diagnosis

An ECG, or electrocardiogram, records electrical activity from the heart. In a ring, a single-lead sensor may provide a spot recording that is useful for personal trend review or a conversation with a clinician. It does not automatically provide a clinical interpretation, rule out disease, or establish that the hardware and software are authorized for a particular medical use.

Circular’s own documentation makes this distinction explicit: its Ring 2 ECG is for wellness tracking and is not a diagnostic tool. Conversely, Samsung’s ECG documentation reviewed for this guide concerns compatible Galaxy Watch and phone combinations, not Galaxy Ring. These are different devices and should not be treated as interchangeable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

SpO2 is usually an overnight trend, not a hospital-grade spot check

SpO2 is an estimate of blood oxygen saturation derived from optical sensing. Oura, Samsung, RingConn, and Circular all document blood-oxygen functionality, but the practical use described by their materials is primarily wellness tracking, sleep analysis, or pattern recognition.

Oura Ring 5 Smart Ring- Gold - Size 8 - Fitness & Sleep Tracker
  • THE WORLD’S SMALLEST SMART RING - 40% smaller than the previous generation, Oura Ring 5 is thinner, lighter and smaller than ever. The updated all-titanium design is more scratch-resistant and comfortable than ever
  • SIZING IS ESSENTIAL - Oura Ring 5 uses unique sizing different from standard jewelry rings and other Oura Ring generations; use the Oura Ring 5 Sizing Kit to find your perfect fit before purchasing
  • EVERYDAY HEALTH SENSING - Oura tracks over 50 health metrics, including sleep, activity, stress, heart health, metabolic health and women’s health metrics. Oura seamlessly integrates with over 40 apps including Natural Cycles, Strava, & more
  • OURA MEMBERSHIP - First month of membership is included with purchase, for new members only. Subscription is 5.99/mo afterwards. Membership is tied to your account via the Oura App, not your physical ring
  • REBUILT FOR GREATER ACCURACY - Oura Ring 5 has been re-engineered and reconfigured, providing more precise personal health data. Larger, smarter sensors bring research-grade accuracy—all in Oura’s smallest form factor yet

Oura recommends looking at trends rather than treating a single night’s reading as a diagnosis. RingConn’s oxygen-drop counts may identify a pattern that deserves attention, but they do not diagnose sleep apnea. If you need an accurate spot measurement for a medical reason, use an appropriate authorized device and follow your clinician’s advice rather than treating any ring as a replacement for a dedicated pulse oximeter.

Do not use a smart ring for glucose measurement

The FDA says it has not authorized, cleared, or approved any smartwatch or smart ring intended to measure or estimate blood glucose independently. No ring in this guide should be recommended as a glucose meter or a noninvasive continuous glucose monitor replacement.

Claims about glucose measurement deserve a higher level of skepticism than ordinary sleep or activity estimates. If you need glucose data, use a properly authorized glucose-monitoring product under appropriate medical guidance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to choose the right ring

  1. Start with the measurement you actually need. Choose Oura for broad sleep and recovery trends, Samsung for Galaxy integration, RingConn Gen 2 for oxygen-drop emphasis, Gen 2 Air for lower-cost essentials, or Circular for a wellness-oriented ECG sensor. Do not buy an ECG ring when what you really need is a clinically interpreted ECG.
  2. Check the phone requirement before checking the sensors. Oura, RingConn, and Circular support iOS and Android in the reviewed material. Galaxy Ring is the ecosystem-dependent choice: confirm your compatible Galaxy phone, Samsung account, Samsung Health setup, and any Galaxy AI requirements.
  3. Calculate the total cost, not just the ring price. Oura’s US membership is $5.99 monthly or $69.99 yearly after the included introductory month under its stated terms. RingConn advertises Gen 2 and Gen 2 Air without subscription fees. Circular advertises a subscription-free core experience. Samsung has no Oura-style membership documented in the reviewed material. Pricing and feature policies can change.
  4. Choose the correct RingConn model. Gen 2 and Gen 2 Air both cover core health trends, but the official comparison marks sleep-apnea monitoring unavailable on Gen 2 Air. Gen 2 is the model associated with high-frequency SpO2 and oxygen-drop insights.
  5. Plan for fit and sizing. A ring must fit securely enough for its sensors to maintain contact without becoming uncomfortable. Use the manufacturer’s sizing process where available, and verify the exact ring size before ordering. Do not assume one brand’s size maps directly to another brand’s size.
  6. Think about charging and battery tolerance. RingConn Gen 2 is listed for up to 12 days and Gen 2 Air for up to 10 days. Those are manufacturer-stated maximums, not guarantees for every wearer or usage pattern. For Oura, Samsung, and Circular, compare the current charging details directly before purchase if charging frequency is a deciding factor.
7. Review the app and data workflow. Sensor hardware is only part of the experience. Check which insights require an account, a subscription, a specific phone, or cloud-connected app features. If you need to share trends with a clinician or keep your own records, confirm the app’s current export and sharing options before buying.
  8. Define your clinical expectations honestly. A wellness ring can help you notice patterns and produce information to discuss with a clinician. It should not replace a diagnostic test, prescribed monitor, pulse oximeter, sleep study, glucose monitor, or urgent medical care.

Bottom line: which smart ring should you buy?

Buy the Oura Ring 4 if you want the strongest all-around sleep, recovery, heart-rate, HRV, temperature, activity, and overnight oxygen-trend package and accept the membership cost. Choose the Samsung Galaxy Ring if Samsung Health and a compatible Galaxy phone are already central to your life. Choose the RingConn Gen 2 Air for the lowest-cost no-subscription route to essential tracking, or step up to the RingConn Gen 2 for longer battery life and oxygen-drop insights.

Choose the Circular Ring 2 only when the presence of a single-lead wellness ECG is a genuine priority—and keep its non-diagnostic disclaimer in view. None of these mainstream products should be called a medical smart ring without specifying the exact authorized system and intended use.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is an ECG smart ring the same as an FDA-cleared medical ECG?

No. A ring’s ECG sensor can record an electrical heart signal, but that does not automatically mean the ring is FDA-cleared to diagnose a condition. Circular’s own guide says its single-lead ECG is for wellness tracking and is not a diagnostic tool. Samsung’s FDA-cleared ECG materials reviewed here concern compatible Galaxy Watch and phone combinations, not Galaxy Ring.

Can a smart ring replace a fingertip pulse oximeter?

They can provide oxygen-saturation estimates or trends, especially during sleep, but they should not automatically replace a clinical pulse oximeter. Oura recommends looking at trends rather than diagnosing from one night, and RingConn’s oxygen-drop feature is not a diagnosis of sleep apnea.

Can any smart ring measure blood glucose?

No. The FDA says it has not authorized, cleared, or approved any smartwatch or smart ring intended to measure or estimate blood glucose independently. Use an appropriate authorized glucose-monitoring product instead.

Which smart rings do not require a subscription?

Oura requires a US membership for the full app experience and lists it at $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year after the included introductory month under its stated terms. RingConn advertises Gen 2 and Gen 2 Air without subscription fees, and Circular advertises a subscription-free core experience. Samsung has no Oura-style membership documented in the reviewed material.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do you need a Samsung Galaxy phone for Galaxy Ring?

Yes. Samsung’s full feature set depends on a compatible Galaxy phone, Samsung account, and Samsung Health. Some features also depend on compatible Galaxy AI hardware or software. Galaxy Ring should not be treated as a fully platform-neutral Android accessory.

The Bottom Line

Best overall: Oura Ring 4. Best Samsung choice: Galaxy Ring. Best no-subscription value: RingConn Gen 2 Air. Best for oxygen-drop trends: RingConn Gen 2. Best ECG-oriented option: Circular Ring 2, for wellness tracking only. Smart-ring ECG and SpO2 features are not automatically medical diagnoses, and no smart ring should be used as an independent glucose monitor.
