For a black dive watch with orange accents, start with Seiko’s Prospex Black Series SPB255. Squale’s 1521 Full Luminous takes a different route, pairing a black bezel with orange markers on a luminous dial. DOXA’s SUB 300 Professional is the orange-dial choice—not a black-and-orange dial. These manufacturer-documented examples show three distinct ways to use orange; they are not a ranking or an independent test.
How the three color treatments differ
| Watch | Where the orange appears | Black element | Published specifications |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seiko Prospex Black Series SPB255 | Orange accents within the Black Series design | Black Series styling | Seiko says the relevant mechanical reinterpretations use Caliber 6R35 with a 70-hour power reserve. Confirm the exact reference and configuration on Seiko’s Black Series page. |
| Squale 1521 Full Luminous | Orange markers on a luminous dial | Black insert bezel | Squale’s catalog lists a 42 mm case, 12.5 mm thickness, 48 mm lug-to-lug, Sellita SW 200-1 Elaboré movement, and 500 m water resistance. These are catalog specifications; see the Squale catalog. |
| DOXA SUB 300 Professional | Orange dial | Not described as a black-dial model | DOXA lists a 42.5 mm case and 30 bar (approximately 300 m) water resistance, with a unidirectional bezel carrying depth and dive-time scales. See DOXA’s product page. |
The distinction matters if you want orange as a small contrast rather than the dominant dial color. Seiko’s orange accents and Squale’s orange markers keep the dial from reading as fully orange; DOXA’s Professional makes orange the main dial color. The Squale catalog figures are for the Full Luminous reference specifically, while Seiko’s power-reserve statement applies to the relevant mechanical Black Series reinterpretations, so check the exact listing before comparing configurations.
What each manufacturer says about its design
Seiko Prospex Black Series: orange accents
Seiko presents the Black Series as a night-diving concept and includes the SPB255 among modern reinterpretations. Its product page describes orange accents as part of that design and gives a 70-hour reserve for the relevant mechanical reinterpretations using Caliber 6R35. The page is undated; details here reflect the product information accessed on October 8, 2026. Verify the selected reference’s current market listing and configuration before buying.
Squale 1521: orange elapsed-time hand and markers
Squale describes the 1521 as an iconic collection based on a case reference from the 1960s. On its collection page, the brand says the orange minute hand is intended to stand out because it indicates elapsed underwater time. The page lists 50-atmosphere pressure resistance, a crown at four o’clock, and a one-way bezel with 120 clicks. Those are manufacturer descriptions, not independent testing; the Squale 1521 collection page covers the collection, while the Full Luminous dimensions and movement above come from the catalog.

- Bold Dive Design: The WD1968 automatic dive watch has a bold 316L stainless steel case, clear dial layout, and strong tool-watch profile. It gives men a distinctive mechanical watch for daily wear, outdoor outfits, and vintage-inspired style.
- 300M Water Resistance: Built with 30 bar water resistance, this men’s diver watch supports swimming, recreational diving, and active daily use. The screwback case and secure construction help improve water protection when the crown is fully locked
- Full Lume Bezel: The full lume ceramic bezel adds strong visual impact and better low-light use, while the 90-click bidirectional rotation gives the watch a unique mechanical feel. The benefit is a luminous dive watch that looks bold in daylight and stands out in darker settings
- Sapphire Crystal Clarity: The sapphire crystal with 3 layers of high-clear AR coating helps protect the dial from daily scratches and improves viewing clarity. Large hands, clean markers, and BGW9 blue luminous hands and markers help improve visibility in low-light settings, while the full lume ceramic bezel adds a bold glow effect
- Date or No-Date Choice: Choose a PT5004 no-date version for a cleaner, balanced dial, or a PT5000 date-window version for everyday convenience. Black, gray, and blue dial options let this leather strap watch match different styles, from casual wear to outdoor gear and collector-focused mechanical watches
DOXA SUB 300 Professional: orange dial
DOXA says its SUB concept launched in 1967 and describes the Professional’s orange dial as a readability-oriented design feature. The current product page lists 30 bar, approximately 300 meters, water resistance and a 42.5 mm case, plus a unidirectional bezel with depth and dive-time scales. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. The Professional is the option here for a predominantly orange dial, rather than a black dial with orange details.
How to choose between them
- Choose by color balance: Seiko is the black-series option with orange accents; Squale pairs orange markers with a black bezel; DOXA makes orange the dial color.
- Compare fit using the figures that are published: the Squale catalog gives diameter, thickness, and lug-to-lug for the Full Luminous; DOXA lists a 42.5 mm case diameter. The cited Seiko page’s stated reserve does not establish a complete set of case dimensions for this comparison.
- Look at bezel function and layout: Squale describes a 120-click one-way bezel; DOXA lists depth and dive-time scales on a unidirectional bezel. The Seiko source used here does not establish a comparable bezel specification.
- Compare movement and reserve only where documented: Seiko’s page gives Caliber 6R35 and 70 hours for relevant mechanical reinterpretations; the Squale catalog lists Sellita SW 200-1 Elaboré for Full Luminous. The cited DOXA page details do not establish a movement or reserve for this comparison.
- Check the actual purchase conditions: price, stock, warranty, taxes, shipping, and strap or bracelet can depend on the exact reference and your region. Confirm these on the live product listing; catalog and product-page details do not establish current local availability.
What the water-resistance figures do—and do not—tell you
The cited manufacturer figures are not directly comparable test results: DOXA lists 30 bar (approximately 300 m) for the SUB 300 Professional, Squale’s collection page states 50 atmospheres for the 1521, and the catalog lists 500 m for the Full Luminous reference. A water-resistance rating alone does not establish that a particular watch is suitable for a specific dive or guarantee its condition in use. Treat the figures as published specifications, not evidence from an independent head-to-head or dive test.

Availability and reference checks
Availability can differ between references and retailers. When checked on October 8, 2026, Squale’s 1521 Marina Militare page reported that model unavailable, while documenting a black dial, orange details, and compatible straps. That status applies to that model and page snapshot; it does not establish availability for the 1521 Full Luminous or other Squale watches. Confirm the exact reference, configuration, and stock with the seller before purchase.
