What is the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Barakuda?
The Barakuda is a modern Fifty Fathoms diver that revisits a model Blancpain dates to the end of the 1960s. In its 2019 model document, Blancpain says the new watch retains features of the original while incorporating technical developments from the company’s later diving-watch experience. The modern edition is limited to 500 pieces worldwide.
Blancpain also connects the name to Barakuda, a company specializing in technical diving equipment. Its 2019 account says the German Bundesmarine received Fifty Fathoms models through Barakuda during the 1960s. That historical account concerns the earlier watches; it does not mean the 2019 re-edition was issued to the German navy.
Blancpain describes the relationship between old and new through details including a bombé sapphire bezel and strap design. The modern watch should therefore be understood as a limited revival, not as a vintage watch or an exact reproduction.

These are manufacturer-listed figures, not independent test results. The 20.00 mm measurement describes the space between the horns; by itself, it does not establish that a particular third-party strap will fit. Attachment geometry and the strap’s specific fit should be confirmed before buying.

Blancpain’s U.S. product page displays $18,600 and marks the watch “Sold out” (page accessed in 2026). The page notes that price can vary depending on whether the strap fastening is a pin buckle or folding clasp. Because the model is shown as sold out, the displayed amount should not be treated as a live offer, and it says nothing by itself about secondary-market value.
Blancpain’s page establishes the brand’s stated availability, not whether a particular authorized retailer has remaining stock. For a pre-owned example, check current listings separately and assess the specific seller, watch condition, authenticity documentation and warranty terms; the official displayed price is not evidence of a resale asking price or completed transaction.
