The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act 2 Tech Gombessa is a technical-diving watch built around a three-hour dive-time display. Its dedicated hand takes three hours to complete one rotation, extending the elapsed-time scale beyond the one-hour display common on dive watches. Blancpain introduced it in 2023 with closed-circuit rebreather (CCR) diving and long underwater immersions in mind.
What is the Fifty Fathoms Tech Gombessa?
The Tech Gombessa is the second release in Blancpain’s Fifty Fathoms 70th-anniversary series, announced on 16 February 2023 as the start of a technical-diving line. The exact reference is 5019 12B30 64A, which distinguishes it from other anniversary watches and later Fifty Fathoms Tech models. Blancpain describes it as a watch for technical diving and says its design was developed particularly with CCR diving in mind. Blancpain’s launch announcement
How the three-hour dive-time display works
A dedicated dive-time hand completes one rotation in three hours, and the unidirectional rotating bezel provides the matching elapsed-time scale. Together they are intended to let the wearer track immersion time for as long as three hours, rather than relying on a scale that completes a turn every 60 minutes. Blancpain’s launch release says, “This new timepiece dedicated to technical diving offers immersions of up to 3 hours for the first time.”
Blancpain differentiates local-time indications in blue from immersion-time indications in green. The three-hour display is a mechanical timing feature, not a substitute for a dive computer, decompression planning, or the training and procedures required for technical diving.
