The Raymond Weil Maestro Moon Phase 2239 pairs a traditional dress-watch layout with a blue dial designed to reward a closer look: the date sits at 3 o’clock, the moon-phase display at 6, and layered dial finishing adds texture without crowding the display. Published hands-on accounts describe a 39.5 mm case, while Raymond Weil’s 2018 launch announcement and a retailer listing specify 40 mm. The watch is an older model, so historic prices and a single out-of-stock listing cannot establish what it should cost today.

What is the Raymond Weil Maestro Moon Phase 2239?

Raymond Weil announced the Maestro Moon Phase on May 29, 2018. Its central appeal is a familiar, restrained arrangement enlivened by an astronomical complication: a date aperture at 3 o’clock and a moon-phase display at 6. The brand’s announcement described five variations, including blue, silver and grey dials, with genuine-leather or steel-mesh bracelet configurations. It specified an automatic Swiss mechanical RW4280 movement and a sapphire exhibition caseback. Raymond Weil’s 2018 launch announcement gives the original model context.

The 2239 series is not one identical configuration. Reference 2239M-ST-00609, for example, is listed with a steel bracelet. Confirm the reference and included bracelet when assessing any individual watch; the series also appeared with leather.

How does the blue dial look?

Time+Tide’s Felix Scholz describes the blue dial as a composition of distinct finishes rather than a single flat surface. In his account, the center has wavy radial guilloché, the hour track uses concentric rings, and the moon-phase subdial has its own concentric finishing. He also notes the framed moon-phase display’s traditional look and the Roman numerals’ Art Deco character. Those are Scholz’s published observations, not a claim of an independent wear test. Raymond Weil Maestro Men's Automatic Watch, Stainless Steel, Silver Dial Roman Numerals, Black Leather Strap 39.5 mm (Model: 2238-STC-00659)
  • SOPHISTICATED DESIGN: This Maestro Men's Watch features a sleek and timeless design with a 39.5 mm stainless steel case and a silver dial, exuding elegance and style.
  • AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT: Powered by an automatic movement, this watch offers precise timekeeping and eliminates the need for batteries. It showcases the artistry and craftsmanship of Swiss horology.
  • DATE WINDOW: It features a convenient date window positioned at 3 o'clock, allowing you to easily keep track of the date while wearing this stylish watch.
  • 38-HOUR POWER RESERVE: With a 38-hour power reserve, this watch ensures reliable performance and longevity. You can trust it to keep accurate time even during extended periods of non-use.
  • ROMAN NUMERAL MARKERS: The silver dial of the watch showcases classic Roman numeral markers in black, providing a timeless and distinguished appeal.

Hodinkee’s James Stacey reports that the dial is legible and that the blue hands echo the moon-phase display. Stacey found the proportions strong and the watch easy-wearing; he also says the silver dial surprised him positively on wrist. His comments are useful context for the range, but the blue dial’s layered finishing is the more distinctive visual argument for this version. Read Stacey’s Hodinkee hands-on.

Case size and movement: why published specifications differ

The case is described as 39.5 mm by both hands-on accounts, while Raymond Weil’s launch announcement says 40 mm. A Tourneau listing for 2239M-ST-00609 also specifies 40 mm. These figures may reflect rounding or differences in how the watch is described; the available sources do not resolve the discrepancy, so both measurements are worth knowing when comparing fit or listings.

Movement naming also varies by source. Raymond Weil’s 2018 announcement calls the automatic movement RW4280. Hodinkee identifies the 2239’s movement as a Sellita SW 280-1 and reports a 4 Hz beat rate and 38-hour power reserve, along with hand-winding and hacking seconds. The available information does not establish that the two designations are definitively interchangeable. Raymond Weil’s announcement and Hodinkee’s 2239 coverage should therefore be read as separate attributions.

AGELOCER Moon Phase Watch Original Design, 29.51 Day Precise Moonphase, Automatic Mechanical Watches for Men, Luxury Waterproof Leather Strap Natural Blue Aventurine Dress Watch Mens Gift
  • This is a precision panoramic large aperture moon phase automatic mechanical watch crafted from blue aventurine, the material that most closely resembles the starry night sky, designed by Swiss chief designer Etienne Ruffieux, inspired by the sun, moon, and stars. The intricately carved luminous moon changes once daily, fully showcasing the entire cycle of nature's waxing and waning phases. This watch has been awarded the European Design Award for its outstanding original design.
  • In-house CAL.A4610 fully automatic mechanical movement, bidirectional automatic winding system, 28,880 vibrations per hour, 27 ruby bearings. Exquisite perlage and geneva stripes finishing, edge chamfering process, white gold plating, and engraved gold-plated brand logo. Delivers an extended 80-hour power reserve (twice that of standard mechanical movements). This technology enables a more even and gradual release of the mainspring, resulting in more precise and stable timekeeping.
  • The moon phase disc in Agelocer's in-house CAL.A4610 automatic mechanical movement features a precision 31-tooth structure. It advances one segment every 22.846 hours, completing a full cycle every 29.51 days to achieve a 708.23-hour lunar cycle. (Conventional moon phase discs use a 59-tooth gear, advancing one notch every 24 hours to complete a full cycle in 29.5 days, resulting in a 708-hour lunar cycle.)
  • The astronomical lunar cycle is 29.53 days (708.72 hours), meaning conventional moon phases accumulate a one-day error every 2.7 years. The Agelocer moon phase watch accumulates one day of error every 4.1 years, offering greater precision than traditional 59-tooth moon phase mechanisms.
  • The dial is made of natural blue aventurine from Brazil. Its deep blue or violet-blue color from scaly vivianite contained within quartz crystals during geological formation. It shimmers with a beautiful, soft glow, like sky full of stars, make it most star-like natural dial material available today. In this panoramic large moon phase watch, as the dynamic moon perfectly glides across the starry surface of the blue aventurine dial, it feels as if the cosmic starry sky is right before your eyes.

Leather or mesh: which configuration suits the watch?

The choice changes the character of the watch more than its basic layout. Hodinkee’s Stacey particularly likes the mesh bracelet’s more casual effect. Leather is the more conventional dress-watch pairing; mesh offers a less formal look while retaining a steel-bracelet feel. Raymond Weil’s launch announcement describes a blue genuine-leather option and a steel mesh bracelet with folding clasp and double push-security system. Check the exact reference and what is actually included in a listing, rather than assuming every 2239 has the same bracelet.

What did the Maestro Moon Phase cost, and what should buyers check now?

Published prices are historical, not current valuation guidance. Hodinkee reported US$1,295 for the leather version and US$1,495 for mesh in 2018; Time+Tide listed A$2,100 for the leather version in August 2018. A Tourneau product record for reference 2239M-ST-00609 displayed US$1,595 when accessed, but the listing was out of stock. None of these figures establishes a current fair market price or present availability. Tourneau’s listing is a snapshot, not an active offer.

When evaluating a specific watch, compare like with like and inspect the details that materially affect the purchase:

  • Seller and warranty: Check the seller’s return terms and whether any warranty is valid and applicable to that watch.

Do not confuse the older Maestro with Raymond Weil’s current Millesime Moon Phase. The brand’s US page lists the distinct Millesime reference 2945-PC5-50001 with a 39 mm case, RW4280 movement, 41-hour reserve and a US$2,695 price at the time accessed in 2026. That price is a volatile page snapshot and does not set the value of a Maestro 2239. Raymond Weil’s Millesime page.

Using the date and moon-phase functions

Raymond Weil publishes manuals for multiple moon-phase configurations, so the exact reference’s instructions should take precedence over a generic sequence. The brand’s self-winding mechanical date-hand/moon-phase manual says to wind a stopped watch by turning the crown clockwise 20–30 times before adjustment. It identifies separate pushers for the date and moon phase and instructs the wearer to return the crown to its normal position after setting to maintain water resistance. Confirm that this manual applies to the particular 2239 before using its setting instructions. Raymond Weil’s date-hand and moon-phase manual; Raymond Weil’s manual catalog.
