Its gold-tone shroud makes the watch hard to ignore—and may be exactly what some wrists love or loathe. Would you wear it?
What makes the 7549-7009 a Golden Tuna?
Fratello identifies the 7549-7009 as the “rest of world” version of the Golden Tuna and notes the “SQ” marking as an identifying detail. Stockton describes it as a 600-meter titanium quartz diver powered by Seiko’s five-jewel caliber 7549. These are the article’s reported specifications; they have not been independently confirmed against a Seiko manual here.
Stockton writes that “In 1978, the Seiko 7549-7009 debuted and became the world’s first quartz-powered saturation diver.” That historical distinction should be attributed to Fratello rather than treated as independently established: the source does not cite primary documentation for it.
What is the James Bond connection?
Stockton connects the watch to Roger Moore’s appearance in For Your Eyes Only (1981), describing the 7549-7009 as a watch worn by Bond. That is a reported film appearance, not a prop identification independently corroborated here by a film authority or catalogue.

Would you wear it?
The appeal is unapologetically bold: a gold-tone shroud against a titanium diver’s case gives the watch a distinctive presence. That character is also the dividing line. If you prefer a watch that blends in, the Golden Tuna may feel like too much; if you want a vintage diver that makes its design the point, the unusual combination may be its strongest draw.
What should you check on a vintage example?
Fratello’s 2021 article discusses one Australian seller’s example, not a representative sample of the model. That watch had an aged strap, its original gold-tone buckle, and needed a battery replacement at the time. Those details describe that individual watch only; they do not establish the condition of other examples.

- HIGH-BEAT PT5000 AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT: Powered by a PT5000 mechanical movement operating at 28,800 vph (4Hz). It supports self-winding, manual winding and hacking seconds, with an approximate 38–40-hour power reserve for daily wear or watch rotation.
- THREE VINTAGE DIAL OPTIONS: Choose Aged Brown with an aged texture, Classic Black with gold-tone markers, or Retro Blue with a date window. Luminous hands and markers aid time reading, while the rotating aluminum bezel retains a classic diver layout.
- DOMED SAPPHIRE AND 316L STEEL: The domed sapphire crystal uses an inner AR coating to reduce distracting reflections while helping resist scratches. The polished and brushed 316L stainless steel case provides a durable, corrosion-resistant exterior.
- 200M WATER RESISTANCE: A screw-down crown and screw-down solid case back support a 200M/20ATM rating for swimming, snorkeling and regular activities around water. Keep the crown fully secured before water contact and rinse the watch after saltwater use.
- BALANCED 40MM CASE AND BRACELET: The case measures 40mm in diameter, 46.6mm lug to lug and 12.3mm thick. A 20mm stainless steel bracelet measuring approximately 18.5cm and an approximate watch weight of 129g create a balanced wrist profile.
For a specific listing, assess the evidence for that watch rather than relying on the model name or Bond story alone:
- Confirm the reference and inspect the “SQ” marking cited by Fratello.
- Ask for clear photographs of the case, shroud, dial, bezel, crown, buckle, and any visible wear.
- Request the battery and service history, and whether the movement currently operates.
- Evaluate the strap and buckle separately; originality and condition can differ.
- Compare the asking price with recent sales of genuinely comparable examples, accounting for condition and documented work.
What does it cost?
Fratello’s auction discussion in 2021 placed the example below approximately €1,450. That is a historical figure for one auction context—not a current valuation, a market-wide average, or evidence of today’s asking prices. Current comparable sales are needed to judge a present-day listing.
