Brad Pitt’s character Billy Beane wears a TAG Heuer Kirium in Moneyball. TAG Heuer identifies the watch as reference WL1113. The story behind the prop is that Pitt chose a crew member’s watch from three options, then watch enthusiast Jeff Stein helped identify the model and source backups for filming continuity.
What watch does Brad Pitt wear in Moneyball?
TAG Heuer identifies Billy Beane’s watch as a TAG Heuer Kirium WL1113 in its watch-spotting account. Hodinkee also identifies Pitt’s selection as a Kirium; its pictured watch is described as similar to the one in the film, so that image should not be treated as proof that every detail matches the production watch.

The WL1113 is a late-1990s Professional-collection model. TAG Heuer describes it as having a midnight-blue dial, Mercedes-style hands, a unidirectional rotating dive bezel, an integrated stainless-steel bracelet and 200-metre water resistance. Hodinkee notes that its late-1990s production period suited a film story focused on the 2002 baseball season.
How did Pitt end up wearing a crew member’s watch?
According to TAG Heuer and Hodinkee’s account, the property master presented Pitt with three watches on the first day of filming. Pitt chose one belonging to a crew member.

That choice created a practical continuity problem: the production needed the same watch available for filming, while its owner would need it returned. Jeff Stein, a TAG Heuer collector and watch expert, helped identify the model and locate backup examples. In a 2011 TimeZone forum post, Stein said he rounded up three WL1113 watches for the prop master.
Why the Kirium suited the film
The watch’s late-1990s origin places it plausibly within the period of the 2002 season portrayed in the film. Its functional dive-watch styling also reads as a practical everyday choice for Beane rather than a conspicuous luxury display. That last point is an interpretation of the screen styling, not a documented statement about the filmmakers’ intent.

What did the backup watches cost?
Stein’s 2011 forum account puts the three sourced examples in the $400–$500 range at the time. That is a historical sourcing figure, not a current value, asking-price estimate or indication of what a WL1113 should cost today.
The cited accounts do not establish current availability or market pricing. Anyone considering a pre-owned example should assess its condition, completeness and seller documentation rather than relying on Stein’s decade-old sourcing figure.
