The Breguet Classique Régulateur à Pivot Magnétique 7225 pairs a 10 Hz manually wound movement with a traditional hand-guilloché dial and 18K gold case. Its most unusual feature is a magnetic pivot that Breguet says stabilizes the balance and reduces friction; the brand also specifies a maximum rate deviation of ±1 second per day. Those are manufacturer claims, not independent test results established here. The 7225 is a contemporary watch with a historic design reference, not a recreation of the older watch’s complications.
What makes the Classique 7225 unusual?
The 7225’s central idea is a high-frequency movement built around a magnetic pivot, presented in Breguet’s restrained classical style. It is the current Classique Régulateur à Pivot Magnétique, reference 7225BH/0H/9V6. Its manually wound calibre 74SC runs at 10 Hz, has a 60-hour power reserve and comprises 361 components, according to Breguet’s current product listing. Hodinkee describes the movement as beating at 72,000 beats per hour and reports silicon in the balance spring, pallet lever and escape wheel.

High frequency is only part of the story: Breguet says the magnetic pivot is designed to keep the balance staff centered and reduce friction, while the watch’s display adds a separate observation-seconds function. The result is a technically distinctive movement without a visually busy dial.
How does the magnetic pivot work?
In a conventional mechanical watch, the balance staff pivots in jewels, and friction may vary as the watch changes position. Breguet’s explanation is that micro-magnets at both ends of the balance staff help center and stabilize it. The pivot tips still touch endstones, but the contact area is small; the company says this arrangement reduces friction and helps keep conditions more consistent across positions. Breguet also says it can improve the average rate across six positions.

- 2nd time-zone sub-dial located at the 6 o'clock position
- AM/PM sub-dial indicator located at the 3 o'clock position
- Blue steel hands
- Hand engraved (engine-turned) guilloche silver dial
The qualification matters: those are Breguet’s descriptions of the design and its intended benefit. The available sources do not establish independent rate testing of this specific watch. Breguet specifies that the 7225 is certified to a maximum rate deviation of ±1 second per day; that is not a guarantee that every individual watch will keep that rate on every wrist, in every position or under all conditions. Breguet’s launch announcement presents the certification as a manufacturer specification.
What does the dial do?
The watch displays central hours and minutes, a fan-shaped power-reserve indicator at 6 o’clock and two seconds indications. The small seconds at 2 o’clock runs continuously. At 10 o’clock, the observation-seconds hand can be reset and immediately begins running again when the pusher at 8 o’clock is pressed.
This is useful for observing an intermediate time or tracking two events at once, but it is not a conventional stop-and-start chronograph. Pressing the pusher resets the observation display rather than stopping it to record elapsed time. Breguet describes the function and its intended uses in its official explanation of the Classique 7225.
What is the historical connection?
Breguet says the design takes inspiration from pocket watch No. 1176, built between 1802 and 1809. That historical watch had a tourbillon, a fusee-and-chain constant-force escapement and two small-seconds displays. The wristwatch’s twin seconds indications echo that visual idea, but the 7225 should not be mistaken for a reproduction of the pocket watch’s mechanism or full set of complications.

Case, dimensions and materials
The official specification gives the 7225 a 41 mm case in 18K Breguet gold, with a thickness of 10.7 mm. It has a hand-guilloché dial, Breguet pomme évidée hands, sapphire caseback and alligator strap; the lug width is 20 mm. Breguet lists water resistance at 3 bar. These details describe the published specification, not a claim that the watch is suitable for swimming or other water use.
Hodinkee’s hands-on author also reports dimensions of 41 mm by 10.7 mm and says the watch wears well, while expressing a personal preference for a more traditional Breguet case shape. That is one reviewer’s impression rather than a fit guarantee; wrist shape and preferred proportions vary. Read Hodinkee’s hands-on account.
How much does the Breguet 7225 cost?
Breguet’s live product page does not show a public price and directs prospective buyers to a point of sale. Hodinkee reported a U.S. price of $99,000 in its November 7, 2025 article and said the watch was not a limited edition at that time. That is a dated reported price, not a verified current price for every market; ask a Breguet boutique or retailer for current pricing and availability in your region. The official listing is Breguet’s Classique 7225 product page.
Quick Recap
Who is the 7225 for?
- Consider it if you value unusual movement engineering, a high-frequency manually wound calibre and an observation-seconds display, but want them in a classical rather than overtly technical-looking watch.
- Look closely at the function if you want a chronograph: the observation hand resets and resumes immediately, so it does not provide the usual stop, record and restart operation.
- Assess the proportions in person if case shape and wrist fit are decisive. The 41 mm diameter and 10.7 mm thickness are official figures, while reports about how it wears are subjective.
- Check the price directly before making a purchase decision, since the current official listing requires a price inquiry and the published $99,000 figure is from November 2025.
