The Breguet Classique 7235 is a 39 mm, 18K Breguet-gold anniversary watch that adapts the display of Abraham-Louis Breguet’s pocket watch No. 5 for the wrist. Its appeal is the continuity of that historic layout and its hand-finished gold dial—not a claim to be the most technically ambitious watch in the 250th-anniversary collection. Published specifications and reviewer impressions support a design-focused assessment; no author-specific wrist testing is established here.

What is the Breguet Classique 7235?

The Classique 7235 is a numbered 250-piece watch released for Breguet’s 250th anniversary. The manufacturer describes it as inspired by No. 5, a pocket watch delivered on 14 March 1794 and now displayed at the Breguet Museum on Place Vendôme in Paris. Breguet’s 2025 announcement calls the model “inspired by the No. 5 watch currently on display at the Breguet Museum on Place Vendôme in Paris.” Montres Breguet’s announcement presents the 7235 as an adaptation of No. 5’s complications and their general arrangement, not a literal reproduction.

The historical link extends to the winding system. Breguet says No. 5 was automatic, connecting the 7235’s self-winding movement to Abraham-Louis Breguet’s work on the “perpétuelle” watch. That historical framing is the manufacturer’s account.

How the dial translates No. 5

The display puts the hour and minute hands at the centre, with three indications arranged around them: power reserve between 10 and 11 o’clock, moon phase at 2, and small seconds at about 5. The offset seconds subdial is a deliberate reference to historic Breguet layouts. The gold moon, according to Breguet, reproduces the moon shown on No. 5.

Its gold dial is hand-guilloché with the “Quai de l’Horloge” motif. Breguet describes distinct textured sectors and a bevelled profile; the case middle also receives hand-guilloché decoration in the same motif. These details make the 7235’s visual character as much about surface work and layout as its complications.

Case, movement and published specifications

Specification Published detail
Case 39 mm diameter, 9.9 mm thick; 18K Breguet gold. Dimensions and material stated by Breguet (2025).
Movement Automatic calibre 502.3.DRL; 32.4 mm diameter and 3.95 mm thick, according to Breguet (2025).
Balance spring Silicon, according to Breguet (2025).
Power reserve and frequency 45 hours and 3 Hz, respectively, as reported by Monochrome Watches (2025).
Movement finishing Hand-engraved bridges depicting a Turgot map, reported by Monochrome Watches (2025).
Strap, buckle and water resistance Navy alligator strap, gold pin buckle and 30 m water resistance, as listed in Monochrome Watches’ technical table (2025).

Breguet says the 39 mm case dimensions and curved lugs continue the anniversary design language introduced with the Souscription watch. The movement’s 3.95 mm thickness and the watch’s 9.9 mm case thickness describe different components; the latter is the overall case measurement.

How it relates to the Classique 7137

Monochrome compares the 7235 with the Classique 7137, pointing to a different case and the replacement of the 7137’s date subdial with small seconds. This is a reviewer’s comparison rather than a full like-for-like assessment. The more useful distinction for the 7235 is its No. 5-inspired arrangement, including the offset seconds display, rather than an assumption that the watches are otherwise equivalent.
