The Bulova Lunar Pilot “Blood Moon” is model 96K115, a red-and-silver quartz chronograph with a 43.5 mm case on Bulova’s US specification page. Its defining details are a 262 kHz movement, three chronograph-related sub-dials, sapphire crystal, 50 m water resistance, and a listed bracelet plus interchangeable strap. Bulova’s published specifications make it possible to assess what the watch offers, but they are not a substitute for independent wear or performance testing.
What is the Bulova Lunar Pilot Blood Moon?
The 96K115 is a red-dial version of Bulova’s Lunar Pilot chronograph. Bulova says the dial’s red tone takes inspiration from the reddish appearance of the Moon during a total lunar eclipse—the source of the “Blood Moon” name. That is a color inspiration, not an indication of a moon-phase complication: the published functions describe a chronograph, not a lunar display. Bulova US product page
Bulova connects the Lunar Pilot line to Apollo 15 and says a Bulova chronograph was worn on the Moon on August 2, 1971. That historical statement is the manufacturer’s account on its product page; the product information cited here does not independently verify the mission history. Bulova US product page

- On August 2, 1971, a Bulova chronograph was worn on the moon, engineered for the demands of the lunar environment
- Now, Bulova returns to the design and updates it with an exclusive high-precision quartz movement, continuing its legacy of precision timing with the men's Bulova Lunar Pilot chronograph from the Archive Series
- Under the flat sapphire crystal, the six-hand chronograph dial is rendered in a blue-and-silver panda design, with a blue tachymeter ring and retro Bulova name
What the movement and sub-dials do
Bulova specifies a proprietary high-precision quartz movement operating at 262 kHz. That frequency is a manufacturer specification; the cited pages do not provide an independently measured accuracy result for this particular watch. The layout has six hands overall, with three sub-dials assigned to distinct timing jobs on the US listing:
- 3 o’clock: 1/20-second chronograph timing.
- 6 o’clock: running seconds.
- 9 o’clock: 60-minute chronograph counter.
These functions give the 96K115 a more specific timing layout than a simple elapsed-seconds chronograph, but the listed 1/20-second scale should not be read as an independently confirmed accuracy claim.

Case size, materials and water resistance
The US page lists a 43.5 mm stainless-steel case and 20 mm lug width; the UK page gives a rounded 44 mm diameter. The dial has luminous hands and markers, and the US listing specifies an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Bulova rates the watch at 50 m water resistance (also shown as 5 bar and 166 ft on the US page). That rating is a published specification, not evidence of a water test of an individual watch.
At roughly 44 mm across, the stated case diameter is useful when comparing dimensions, but it cannot establish how the watch will sit on a particular wrist. Case thickness and lug-to-lug length are not stated in the cited specifications, so those measurements are worth checking if fit is a deciding factor.

Bracelet, strap and packaging
Bulova’s US product description lists a three-link bracelet and an interchangeable black strap with red contrast stitching, both with an easy-release system. The Canadian page describes the alternate option as a black leather NATO-style strap with red stitching and says the watch comes in a special box with a storybook. Regional wording and package contents are therefore not identical in the pages cited; confirm the actual configuration with the seller for your country. The US specification gives a 20 mm lug width, which is a starting point if you are considering another strap. Width alone does not confirm that a third-party strap’s end shape or attachment will fit this case; check compatibility with 96K115 before ordering.

Price and availability depend on market
When checked in 2026, Bulova’s US product page listed the watch at $895. The UK page listed it at £599 and showed it as sold out. Those are dated official-site snapshots, not guaranteed current prices or evidence of availability elsewhere; check the local listing before purchase. Bulova US product page · Bulova UK product page
The cited official pages do not establish that the 96K115 is a limited edition. If a retailer describes a particular listing that way, look for evidence tied to that specific product and market rather than inferring limited production from the “Blood Moon” name.

Who should consider the Blood Moon Lunar Pilot?
The 96K115 is most compelling for someone who wants a quartz chronograph with a conspicuous red-and-silver dial, a stated 262 kHz movement, sapphire crystal and two listed wearing options. Its size is the clearest practical caution in the published specification: a 43.5 mm US-listed case (44 mm on the UK page) may not suit every wrist or preference, and the cited product pages do not give lug-to-lug length or case thickness.
Before buying, compare it with alternatives on case diameter and lug-to-lug fit, movement type and stated accuracy, chronograph functions, crystal, water resistance, included bracelet or strap, local price and availability, and warranty and returns. The product pages establish useful specifications for this Bulova, but do not establish a comparative winner or provide independent wear-test findings.
