Breguet’s Expérimentale 1 introduces a magnetic escapement in which the maker says magnetic interaction helps deliver impulses to the balance without coupling those impulses directly to the gear train. The brand calls it a first for its new exploratory watchmaking line. “Contact-free” describes this escapement architecture—not a movement with no physical contact anywhere.
What is the Breguet Expérimentale 1?
The Expérimentale 1, reference E001BH/S9/5ZV, is the first watch in Breguet’s exploratory research-and-development line. Its manually wound caliber 7250 combines a tourbillon with the brand’s magnetic escapement. Breguet presents the line as a way to put technical and scientific work into watches, rather than keeping it solely within the development process. The official product page lists 278 movement components.
The watch has a 43.5 mm case made of 18K Breguet gold. The movement is 6.3 mm thick and 33.8 mm wide. Breguet lists a frequency of 10 Hz and a 72-hour power reserve.
How does the magnetic escapement work?
Breguet’s launch account describes two escape wheels, each with a magnetic track, and a lever positioned between them with magnetic pallets. The maker says the design draws inspiration from constant-force escapements and separates the impulses delivered to the balance from the rotation of the escape wheels and the rest of the gear train.

That separation is the central idea: rather than having the balance’s impulse depend directly on the escape wheel’s movement through the train, magnetic interaction is intended to help maintain a stable impulse. Breguet says this should improve stability across the power reserve. Those are the manufacturer’s account of the design and its intended benefit; the available sources do not provide an independent test demonstrating the result.
“Contact-free” should therefore be read narrowly. It refers to the magnetic interaction and decoupled impulse transmission in the escapement, not to the whole watch operating without physical contact. Breguet’s official terminology is “magnetic escapement.”

What does Breguet claim about accuracy?
The brand says the Expérimentale 1 carries its Breguet Hallmark in the “Scientific” category, which guarantees rate accuracy of ±1 second per day. This is Breguet’s certification guarantee. The official material cited here does not set out a third-party test protocol, comparative results, or independent confirmation of that performance.
The distinction matters when interpreting the watch’s 10 Hz frequency. Frequency is a movement specification; it is not, by itself, proof of a particular real-world accuracy result. The maker’s accuracy guarantee and the movement’s stated frequency are separate claims.

How does the watch fit Breguet’s history?
Breguet links the escapement’s constant-force inspiration to Abraham-Louis Breguet’s 1798 patent and frames the Expérimentale line as a continuation of the house’s technical experimentation. The watch also places that work in a tourbillon, a complication closely associated with the brand.

How much does the Breguet Expérimentale 1 cost?
Breguet’s current product page does not publish a recommended retail price; it directs customers to contact a point of sale. Fratello Watches reported a price of CHF 320,000 including taxes in its launch coverage published on 1 December 2025. That is a dated report, not a confirmed current price for every market.
