It is the first watch in a new experimental line, and the clearest answer it offers to the question “What would Breguet do?” is a technical one: revisit a historic complication through a distinctly modern mechanism.
What is the Breguet Expérimentale 1?
The Expérimentale 1, reference E001BH/S9/5ZV, is powered by Breguet’s manually wound calibre 7250. The manufacture presents it as the first model in an exploratory line devoted to its research and development work. Its defining combination is a tourbillon running at 10 Hz and a magnetic constant-force escapement. Breguet’s official product page lists a 43.5 mm case in 18-carat Breguet gold and a 72-hour power reserve.
How does the magnetic constant-force escapement work?
Breguet’s technical description identifies two escape wheels with magnetic tracks, a magnetic-pallet lever and an intermediate stop wheel. The stop wheel is intended as a safeguard against unwanted jumps. In the manufacturer’s explanation, the magnetic arrangement decouples the balance’s impulse from the escape wheels’ rotation and the rest of the gear train. Breguet says this design lets the watch combine a high-frequency oscillator with a tourbillon architecture. The company’s technical release explains the mechanism; those statements describe Breguet’s account of its design, rather than an independent analysis.
Why pair it with a 10 Hz tourbillon?
Breguet describes 10 Hz as a high-frequency architecture. The pairing is the experiment’s central proposition: a tourbillon and a magnetic constant-force escapement are brought together in a manually wound wristwatch, rather than presented as separate technical novelties. The materials supplied by Breguet explain the intended relationship between the mechanism’s parts, but do not establish comparative performance against other watches.

What accuracy does Breguet guarantee?
Breguet says the Expérimentale 1 carries the Scientific category of its own hallmark, which guarantees a rate accuracy of ±1 second over 24 hours. This is a manufacturer-stated guarantee, not an independently verified long-term result. Breguet’s Expérimentale collection page gives the guarantee and identifies the watch’s 10 Hz frequency.
How does the watch connect to Breguet’s history?
The title’s question has a specific origin, but it should not be mistaken for a documented design rule for this model. In a 2023 interview, Breguet CEO Lionel a Marca said: “The question we ask ourselves every time we start a new project is, ‘What would Abraham-Louis Breguet do today?’” That is a general description of the house’s guiding question, not evidence that the Expérimentale 1 followed a particular historical formula. Robb Report Australia published the interview on 29 June 2023.
Breguet CEO Gregory Kissling later described the tourbillon as “part of our DNA” and a symbol of the house’s innovative spirit. That is the brand’s own interpretation of its history. In the Expérimentale 1, the concrete link is the choice to make the tourbillon part of a new technical investigation, rather than a stand-alone heritage reference.
