Yes—Christie’s identifies the Breguet No. 1646 as a diver watch made in 1965 and reports that 60 examples were produced. “Newly discovered” refers to the model’s modern rediscovery by collectors, not to a recently manufactured watch. The available accounts describe a small, obscure vintage model; they do not establish a verified count of surviving examples or a current market value.
What is the Breguet No. 1646?
The No. 1646 is a mid-1960s Breguet wristwatch described by Christie’s as a rare diver, or “montre plongeur.” Its auction essay reports a 36 mm stainless-steel case, a black dial signed Breguet, oversized luminous hour markers and hands, and a slender black Bakelite bezel with subtle five-minute divisions. The case is described as comparatively thin, with a screw back. Christie’s identifies the automatic movement as calibre 1581, made by A. Schild.
These are reference details reported in an auction essay, not a manufacturer-published specification sheet. The essay says the case was “probably water-resistant to at least 100 metres,” comparing it with a period standard. “Probably” matters: this is not a confirmed rating for every No. 1646, and it is not a safe-use recommendation for a surviving vintage watch. Christie’s reports that 60 examples were produced in 1965. Its essay also says Breguet’s vintage divers were little known and absent from official literature, with dedicated collectors bringing them to wider attention. The figure should be understood as Christie’s reported production count: the sources available here do not include a primary production ledger or a census of surviving watches.

A 2014 iWatchome article recounts the modern discovery of a No. 1646 associated with French singer Michel Delpech. The publication says Breguet’s records connected that watch with its first owner and a 1965 sale. That is the article’s account of the watch’s provenance; the underlying archive record is not reproduced in the available sources. What do the historical sale-price accounts establish?
The historical amounts reported for 1965 do not match: Christie’s says Breguet archives recorded a price of 595 French francs, while iWatchome gives 596 French francs for the watch in its story. The available accounts do not resolve whether these refer to different transactions or a reporting discrepancy, so neither figure should be treated as a settled price for the model.

Can Breguet authenticate a No. 1646?
Breguet’s Heritage Department offers expertise for antique watches and clocks signed Breguet. The company says it can check authenticity and, if a piece is authentic, may provide principal information found in its records, such as characteristics, sale date, or first owner. What is a Breguet No. 1646 worth today?
The cited sources do not establish a current value or present availability. Christie’s record shows that it offered an example; it is not, by itself, evidence of a current market price. Breguet also explicitly excludes monetary valuation from its authentication service.
For a collector assessing an individual example, the relevant evidence is specific to that watch: authenticated identity and documented provenance, originality and condition of the dial, bezel, hands, and case, movement condition and service history, and whether its configuration aligns with documented examples. Do not transfer condition descriptions for an auction lot to the reference as a whole.
