The Breguet Tradition Quantième Rétrograde 7597 puts its movement architecture on display and makes the date part of that view: a hand travels across a curved 1–31 scale, then returns to 1 at month-end. It is an automatic, 40 mm 18K gold watch with caliber 505Q. This is a specifications-led guide, not a report of hands-on testing.
What makes the Tradition 7597 different?
Hours and minutes appear on a small dial near 12 o’clock, leaving much of the watch’s face open to the movement. The date occupies the lower arc, running from 1 through 31. Rather than displaying the date in a window, the watch uses a retrograde hand that travels along the scale and returns to its starting point at the end of the month.

Breguet and parent company Swatch Group present the exposed architecture as drawing on the late-18th-century design of Breguet’s souscription watches. That is the brand’s account of the lineage, not a claim that the modern watch reproduces a specific historical model. Swatch Group’s 2020 launch announcement describes that design context.
How does the retrograde date work?
The date hand moves across the curved scale between roughly 3 and 9 o’clock. At the end of the month, it returns to 1; it is not a date window that changes by jumping a numeral in place. Breguet describes the return in its current product listing.

Hodinkee’s 2020 technical explanation describes driving wheels indexing a stepped snail cam. A rack follows the cam’s steps and moves the date hand incrementally. At the month’s end, the rack drops from the highest step to the lowest, driving the hand back to the beginning of the scale. The hand is shaped with multiple levels so it can clear the exposed components beneath it. This is why the date mechanism’s geometry matters to the dial’s open layout. Winding, date setting, and water resistance
Breguet’s manual says a full wind provides approximately 50 hours of autonomy and recommends 30 crown turns when restarting a stopped watch. It warns against using the quick date corrector while the hands indicate between 20:00 and 01:00, and says not to correct the date with the crown in the time-setting position. Follow the manual for the specific watch when setting it. Breguet’s user manual provides the operating instructions.
The stated water resistance is 3 bar (30 m), with Breguet’s manual conditioning that rating on the crown being in the winding position. This is a modest rating, not a basis for treating the watch as suitable for swimming or diving. Consult Breguet or an authorized service provider if the crown’s position, seal condition, or water exposure is in question.
