These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements or test results. Breitling describes the Caliber 01 as COSC-certified; its collection page gives the caliber’s precision range as −4/+6 seconds per day. That is a certification specification, not a promise that an individual watch will keep that rate in every position or condition. How large and heavy does it feel?
At 44 mm across and 16.94 mm thick, this is not a discreet chronograph. The dimensions point to a watch with notable height as well as width; wrist shape, fit, and personal preference will determine whether that presence feels confident or cumbersome. The listed lug width is 22 mm, but the figures alone do not establish how the watch will sit on a particular wrist.

In a hands-on review published on September 7, 2018, Robert-Jan Broer of Fratello called the steel watch on its Pilot bracelet a “heavy chunk” and described its presence as strong. He found the matte gray/black treatment relatively restrained despite the substantial case. Those are one reviewer’s impressions, not a guarantee of how it will feel to you. If possible, try it on—especially if your usual watches are smaller or thinner. Broer’s Fratello review describes the watch he handled.
Dial, bracelet and design
Broer praised the contrast between the reviewed watch’s anthracite dial and black subdials and noted its date window at 4:30. He considered the Pilot bracelet a good stylistic match. A leather strap would change the look and, in his view, make the watch feel lighter; do not assume a strap is included or that every configuration has the same strap options without checking the exact reference.
Breitling traces the modern Chronomat to a commission from Italy’s Frecce Tricolori team in the early 1980s and a public launch in 1984. The brand identifies rider tabs, an onion crown and the Rouleaux bracelet as collection signatures. These are collection-level design and history notes: this reviewed 44 mm configuration is listed with a Pilot bracelet, not the Rouleaux bracelet.

What the B01 movement offers
The Caliber 01 is a self-winding manufacture chronograph movement. Its stated reserve of approximately 70 hours means that, if fully wound and left unworn, it can run for roughly that long before stopping; actual reserve and rate can vary. The 28,800-vph beat rate, 47 jewels and chronograph indications are manufacturer-listed specifications. COSC certification describes the movement’s chronometer certification; it does not remove the usual influence of position, wear, and service condition on an individual watch’s performance.

Treat the column-wheel detail and his assessment as review-era reporting rather than a fresh confirmation for every current reference; consult documentation for the exact watch if that detail matters to your decision.
What to make of the 500 m water-resistance rating
Breitling states 50 bar, equivalent to 500 m or 1,650 ft, for the model. The product specification also lists a screw-locked crown with two gaskets and a unidirectional ratcheted bezel. A depth rating is not, by itself, a recommendation for a particular activity or proof of the condition of a pre-owned watch. Crown position, seals, damage, maintenance and manufacturer guidance all matter; the sources cited here do not establish the test conditions behind the rating. If you plan to use the watch in water, verify its condition and follow Breitling’s guidance rather than relying on the number alone. Warranty: what to verify before buying
The product page states a five-year international warranty. Breitling’s US warranty page says manufacture mechanical movement watches receive five years of coverage against manufacturing defects and says required service or repairs must be performed by an authorized Breitling Service Center to keep the warranty valid. Its listed exclusions include mishandling, unauthorized tampering, normal wear and tear, and routine service. The US page also describes a paid extension of three additional years for manufacture movement watches; price and conditions should be checked with Breitling because they can change. Warranty terms can vary by purchase geography and activation, so read the terms that apply to the specific watch and verify its warranty card. - Consider it if you want a large steel chronograph, value a manufacture automatic movement with approximately 70 hours of stated reserve, and like a pronounced sports-watch design.
- Try it on before deciding if you are sensitive to case height, prefer lighter bracelets, or usually wear smaller watches. The 2018 hands-on review specifically found the steel-and-Pilot-bracelet combination weighty.
