1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBrilliant Labs Frame is a fascinating preview of the smart glasses people may eventually want, but it is not yet a dependable everyday product. Its lightweight glasses combine a camera, microphones, bone-conduction audio, a small monocular display and the Noa multimodal AI assistant. The result can feel magical when it identifies text or objects hands-free, but phone dependence, cloud latency, limited display space, uncertain battery life and immature software make Frame better suited to developers and early adopters than ordinary consumers.
There is also a 2026 complication: Brilliant Labs now prominently promotes the newer Halo. Frame’s original $350 price and current availability should therefore be treated as historical unless a live official listing confirms otherwise.

What is Brilliant Labs Frame?
Frame is three products in one: relatively conventional-looking eyewear, a wearable camera-and-audio interface for AI, and a small heads-up display. It weighs approximately 39–40 grams, depending on the measurement, and places a Micro-OLED display in front of the right eye through a prism.
That makes Frame different from camera-and-audio glasses such as Ray-Ban Meta, but it does not make Frame a full augmented-reality headset. The display is monocular, small and primarily designed for short text. It cannot replace a phone screen, laptop or room-scale AR system.

Frame also is not a standalone computer. It relies on a paired smartphone, Bluetooth and an internet connection for much of its control, processing and AI functionality. In practical terms, it is a phone accessory that puts a camera, speaker and glanceable interface on your face.
Forbes’ hands-on review reported the original retail price as $350 in July 2024. That is useful launch-era context, not a confirmed 2026 price.
Design and comfort
Frame’s strongest hardware achievement is its relative restraint. At around 40 grams, it is light for glasses containing a camera, electronics, battery and display. A reviewer reported wearing the glasses in Los Angeles, Milan and Hong Kong without attracting obvious public attention.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
They are not completely indistinguishable from normal eyewear. The right-side prism or optical strip is noticeable on close inspection, and the camera and microphones raise social questions even when nobody comments on them. Fit, lens options, prescription support and optical alignment also matter more than a specification sheet suggests. Prospective buyers should verify prescription compatibility and regional lens availability before ordering.
Weight is only part of comfort. A frame that feels acceptable for a short walk may become tiring after hours if its battery and optical components concentrate pressure in the wrong places. Frame’s ordinary appearance helps, but it does not eliminate the compromises of putting computing hardware into eyewear.
The display is useful—but only for the right kind of information
The display is the reason to consider Frame rather than ordinary AI earbuds or camera glasses. It can place concise answers and interface information in the user’s field of view, reducing the need to take out a phone for every short result.

Its limitations are just as important:
- Information appears in front of one eye rather than across both lenses.
- The right-eye prism is visible up close.
- Short answers work better than paragraphs or documents.
- Detailed maps, long translations, media and rich visual overlays remain poor fits.
- Complex answers may still require looking at the phone.
9to5Google’s hands-on report captured the central tension: Frame was an impressive concept, but the early product did not consistently match the expectations created by its announcement.
The display is therefore a genuine differentiator, not a gimmick—but it is a glanceable output channel, not a miniature smartphone screen.
What Noa can do
Frame’s Noa assistant is designed for multimodal interaction. Depending on the software and connected services available, it can:
- Identify objects, places and scenes.
- Read and interpret visible text.
- Answer spoken questions.
- Translate text or speech.
- Help with simple visual problem-solving, including basic equations.
- Search for connected information.
- Return brief results through the display or spoken responses through the glasses.
The best demonstrations are short and obvious: asking what an object is, reading a sign, translating a menu or requesting a quick factual answer while walking. When the phone has a strong data connection and the task can be summarized in a few words, the experience can feel like a convincing glimpse of wearable computing.
It becomes much less impressive when speed or certainty matters. A Forbes reviewer reported responses taking up to roughly 20 seconds in some situations. The same review described occasional major misreadings of scenes or text and an error rate below 10% in that reviewer’s experience. That is an individual observation, not a controlled accuracy benchmark.

Everyday use: where Frame works and where it breaks
Walking through a city
Frame can be useful for quick visual questions while moving through an unfamiliar place. The problem is that the answer may arrive too slowly to feel natural, and the glasses cannot provide the dependable, standalone navigation experience some buyers may imagine.
Reading signs and menus
Large, clear text in good light is a sensible use case. Small, stylized or partially obscured text is less reliable, and longer translations quickly exceed what the monocular display can comfortably show.
Identifying objects
Object recognition is one of the more persuasive demonstrations. It is also exactly where users must remember that a plausible description can still be wrong. Do not rely on it for safety-critical identification.
Asking factual questions
Short questions can be convenient, particularly when the phone is in a pocket. But a weak cellular signal, Bluetooth problem or slow cloud response can turn a hands-free interaction into a frustrating wait.
Using Frame around other people
The camera is forward-facing and intended primarily for visual AI rather than conventional photography or video, but that does not make it socially invisible. Tell people when recording or visual analysis is occurring where appropriate. Avoid using visual AI around confidential documents, children, medical information, proprietary material or private conversations without permission.
Phone dependence is the central compromise
Frame’s full experience depends on several links working together:

- 【AI Real-Time Translation & ChatGPT Assistant】AI glasses break language barriers instantly with AI real-time translation. The built-in ChatGPT voice assistant helps you communicate, learn, and handle travel or business conversations smoothly—ideal for conferences, overseas trips, and daily use.
- 【4K Ultra HD】 Smart glasses feature 4K resolution for clear, detailed visuals, making them suitable for travel, outdoor activities, everyday moments, and daily use.
- 【Bluetooth Music & Hands-Free Calls 】Smart glasses provide Bluetooth music and crystal-clear hands-free calls with an open-ear design. Stay aware of your surroundings while listening—comfortable for long wear and safer for commuting, cycling, and outdoor use.
- 【IP65 Waterproof & Long Battery Life】 AI glasses are designed for daily wear with IP65 waterproof protection against sweat, rain, and dust. The built-in 290mAh battery provides reliable performance for workdays and travel—no anxiety when you’re on the go.
- 【Smart App Control & Object Recognition】Smart glasses connect to the companion app for easy setup, file management, and feature control. They support AI object recognition to help identify items and improve your daily efficiency—perfect for travel exploration and a smart lifestyle.
- The phone must be nearby, paired and charged.
- Bluetooth must remain connected.
- The companion app must have the necessary permissions.
- The phone needs internet access for cloud AI services.
- The relevant AI and software services must remain available.
If Noa is slow or silent, check Bluetooth, phone data access, app permissions and battery before assuming the glasses themselves have failed. Weak cellular coverage can make the AI feel unusable even when the glasses and phone are functioning normally.
This dependence also creates long-term product risk. Cloud services can change, apps can lose support and a discontinued accessory can become far less useful than its hardware suggests.
Battery life: do not read “all day” literally
Battery performance is highly usage-dependent. Reported observations range from roughly two to three hours of active use to approximately five or six hours in some outdoor use. The same reviewer who reported the longer figure also experienced the glasses depleting after about two hours in another situation.
Early messaging around all-day use involved estimated normal use or the included Mister Power accessory. That is not equivalent to continuous camera queries, frequent audio interaction and display use. Poor cellular reception can also increase power consumption by making the phone work harder.
The practical conclusion is simple: Frame should not be described as having unqualified all-day battery life. Compare any normal-use claim with the runtime you need during active AI use, and treat independent observations as variable rather than as a standardized laboratory result.

Frame is more interesting to developers and hardware tinkerers than its consumer feature list alone would suggest. Forbes reported that Brilliant Labs made its codebase and hardware schematics available to its developer community and described more than 8,000 community members at the time. That figure is historical, not a current membership count.

Open-source access can let developers experiment with alternative AI models, interfaces and workflows. Researchers and makers may value the ability to inspect documentation and build beyond the default experience.
But open-source potential does not automatically mean easy modification. Documentation may be incomplete, community support may vary and the physical hardware still imposes limits. A platform can be valuable for experimentation while remaining too rough for a consumer who simply wants reliable calls, notifications, navigation and messaging.
Privacy and etiquette
Frame’s camera and microphones change the social meaning of ordinary eyewear. Before using the glasses, consider whether visual information, audio or prompts may be sent to cloud services under the applicable software and privacy policies. Verify the current Noa privacy documentation before purchase because policies and service behavior can change.
Recommended Free Tools
Practical rules are more important than the novelty:
- Ask permission before analyzing people, private spaces or confidential material.
- Do not point the camera at medical records, passwords, proprietary documents or classroom work.
- Be especially cautious around children and in workplaces with recording restrictions.
- Do not treat an AI-generated answer as proof of what the camera saw.
Frame compared with the alternatives
| Product | Display | Primary strength | Phone dependence | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brilliant Labs Frame | Small monocular Micro-OLED | Open, AI-first wearable experimentation | High | Developers and early adopters |
| Ray-Ban Meta | No equivalent in-lens display | Camera, audio, calls and mainstream ecosystem | High for many connected features | Everyday camera-and-audio use |
| Xreal | Larger wearable visual display | Video, gaming, desktop work and phone-connected AR | Usually requires a source device | Display-first buyers |
| RayNeo | More ambitious display-based AR options | Richer visual capability | Varies by model | Buyers willing to accept more cost and complexity |
| Brilliant Labs Halo | Color Micro-OLED | Brilliant Labs’ newer AI-and-display direction | Check current specifications and service requirements | Buyers interested in newer Brilliant Labs hardware |
These products should not be compared only because retailers call them “smart glasses.” Ray-Ban Meta is primarily camera-and-audio eyewear. Xreal is closer to a wearable monitor. RayNeo targets more ambitious AR. Frame combines a small display, camera, cloud AI and open-source ambitions.
Should you buy Frame in 2026?
The answer is more difficult now than it was at launch because Frame is an older product and Brilliant Labs’ official product focus appears to have moved toward Halo. The Halo product page lists a $349 price, a color Micro-OLED display, dual bone-conduction speakers, microphones, Bluetooth 5.3, an on-device low-power processor, an optical sensor and a claimed all-day battery. It also says shipping starts in Q1 2026.
Those are official product-page claims, not independent confirmation of current inventory, delivery performance or battery life. Before buying either product, confirm availability, support, the current app and AI services, replacement accessories, warranty coverage and return terms in your country.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFrame is worth considering if you are a developer, researcher or early adopter who specifically wants a visible AI interface and is comfortable with phone dependence, cloud latency, limited battery life and experimental software. It is a poor choice if you need dependable all-day eyewear, a standalone computer, reliable navigation, conventional messaging, a broad AR display or mature support.
For most buyers, Ray-Ban Meta is the more sensible everyday camera-and-audio option, Xreal is the better fit for a larger personal display, and RayNeo is more appropriate for those deliberately seeking ambitious AR hardware. Halo is the product to investigate if you want Brilliant Labs’ newer direction—but its current fulfillment and real-world performance still need to be verified.
