The appeal is real as a design proposition, but “won me over” and “hands-on” imply personal wear that cannot be established here. This look at the current listed steel models sticks to what Bulgari specifies and treats quiet luxury as an interpretation, not a product feature.
Which Octo Roma Automatic is this?
Bulgari’s current steel listings include three dial variants: anthracite reference 103740, blue reference 103739 and white reference 103738. The anthracite 103740 is the variant with a Clous de Paris dial described on Bulgari’s US product page. The brand’s international listing for white 103738 and blue 103739 listing establish the other choices.

“New” needs qualification. Hodinkee covered an Octo Roma refresh in 2023, including an updated strap-change system and continued use of the BVL 191 movement; in April 2024 it reported black DLC Automatic and Chronograph models. Those reports do not establish that the currently listed steel references are a 2026 launch, or identify which one a headline might mean. Naming the reference and dial is more precise than calling the watch new.
What gives it a quiet-luxury look?
A shape between round and geometric
The Octo Roma’s steel case is round in broad outline but shaped by its octagonal geometry. Bulgari calls it an “appealing round-but-not-round octagonal case” and frames the design as a combination of Roman inspiration, Italian design and Swiss watchmaking expertise. That is the maker’s description, not an independent verdict. The shape gives the watch a more distinctive profile than a conventional round case without relying on a conspicuous color or oversized complication.

Texture and finish do the talking
For reference 103740, Bulgari specifies a satin-brushed and polished stainless-steel case and an anthracite Clous de Paris dial. The contrast between surface treatments and the dial’s repeated texture is a plausible source of the watch’s understated character: visual interest comes from form and detail rather than a loud palette. “Quiet luxury” is a useful reading of that design, but it is subjective, not a technical specification.

The manufacturer’s “up to 100 metres” rating is a stated specification; by itself, it does not settle whether a particular activity is appropriate. Nor does a 41 mm diameter establish how the watch will fit an individual wrist. Bulgari’s listed details do not provide enough dimensions here to make a wrist-fit prediction.

Prices depend on the market and the reference. At the time of the cited listings, Bulgari’s US page for anthracite 103740 displayed $7,550. The international pages showed €7,900 for white 103738 and £6,800 on the UK listing. These are market-specific displayed prices, not a like-for-like comparison: currency, local taxes, availability and the page’s current pricing can differ.
Is it suitable as an everyday watch?
The 41 mm steel case, date display, automatic movement and manufacturer-stated water resistance up to 100 metres describe a versatile-looking specification set. They do not prove comfort, durability in daily use or fit, and there is no basis here to claim the watch has been worn. Anyone considering it for everyday wear should assess the actual dimensions and bracelet on their own wrist and confirm with Bulgari or an authorized retailer whether the stated water-resistance rating suits their intended use.
What the Octo Roma’s appeal comes down to
The strongest case for the Octo Roma Automatic is design-led: recognizable geometry, restrained dial options and considered surface contrast, backed by a 41 mm automatic steel package. Whether that adds up to quiet luxury—or simply a preference for an angular watch over a conventional round one—is personal. The reference and local listing matter more than the broad label “new.”
