The Bulova Oceanographer “Devil Diver” 96B322 is a 44 mm automatic dive-style watch with a green dial, steel bracelet, date display and manufacturer-rated 200 m water resistance. Bulova positions it as a tribute to its 1970s Oceanographer; the “Devil Diver” name comes from the original’s 666-foot depth marking, which Bulova equates to about 200 m. The published specifications make it a substantial, feature-rich option on paper, but they do not establish how it wears, performs or handles underwater.

What is the Bulova Devil Diver?

“Devil Diver” is Bulova’s nickname for its Oceanographer diver-watch design. Bulova says the name traces to the original Oceanographer’s 666-foot rating, a figure the brand equates with approximately 200 m. The current model is described by Bulova as a design tribute to its 1970s watch; that is the manufacturer’s historical account, not an independently verified archival history. Bulova’s Oceanographer feature presents the name and design story.

This review focuses on reference 96B322: the green-dial, 44 mm stainless-steel-bracelet version listed on Bulova’s regional product pages. “Oceanographer” also covers other references, including smaller 41 mm models and alternate dial, bezel and strap combinations.

What are the 96B322’s specifications?

The figures below are manufacturer-published specifications for 96B322. Regional product pages differ in some details, so caliber notation is identified by market.

Case Stainless steel; 44 mm diameter and 14.4 mm thick. Canada · Australia
Dial and bezel Green three-hand dial with date; Bulova Canada describes a black-and-green unidirectional bezel. Canada

Bracelet Stainless steel. Bulova Germany lists a 20 mm lug width. Germany
Water resistance 20 bar / 200 m / 666 ft; Bulova’s official pages describe the watch as ISO compliant or certified. This is the manufacturer’s claim, not an independent evaluation. Australia · Canada · Bulova/Citizen catalogue

Bulova’s Germany page publishes a rate of ±20 seconds per day, which should be read as the brand’s stated specification rather than a measured result. Published weight is inconsistent across regional pages: Japan lists approximately 160 g, while Germany lists 237 g. Because the discrepancy is material and the listings do not explain it, neither figure is a reliable single weight to assume for every market.

Is the Bulova Devil Diver a good watch?

On the published specification sheet, 96B322 offers a useful combination for someone seeking a mechanical watch with a distinctive retro-diver design: an automatic movement, 42-hour stated reserve, sapphire crystal, date, rotating bezel and 200 m manufacturer rating. Its green-and-black color scheme and the 1970s-inspired Oceanographer styling give it a more specific character than a plain black-dial sports watch.

Bulova Men's Oceanographer Snorkel GMT Automatic Grey Ion Plated Stainless Steel Case Watch, Black and White Unidirectional Rotating Bezel, Gray Silicone Strap, White Dial Style:98B407
  • For the uncompromising thrill seeker, there is no alternative to this all-new Bulova men’s Oceanographer GMT.
  • The perfectly sized 41mm stainless steel case features a grey IP coating, a screw-down crown that provides 200 meters of water resistance, and a unidirectional rotating black-and-white timing bezel. Under the box sapphire crystal, the fully luminescent white dial features a black 24-hours scale and minute markers, applied round luminescent hour markers, and a date display.
  • The bold handset features luminescent fill for exceptional low-light legibility, and an independently adjusted hour hand that allows you to quickly set the local time. The Oceanographer GMT is powered by a self-winding GMT movement with 24-jewels and a power reserve of 42 hours, protected by a screw-down caseback.
  • Paired perfectly with a fitted gray silicone strap with a rugged three-piece buckle. When you need a timepiece that can go everywhere you want and never fall behind, the men’s Bulova Oceanographer GMT is the only option.
  • 200M Water Resistant and 3 Year Limited Warranty

The trade-off is size. At 44 mm across and 14.4 mm thick, it is a large, thick watch by the measurements Bulova publishes. The listed dimensions alone cannot tell you whether it will sit comfortably on a particular wrist or slide under a cuff, so buyers who prefer compact watches should compare the 41 mm Oceanographer references before choosing.

There is no independent hands-on evidence here for accuracy in daily use, bezel action, lume, bracelet feel, comfort or real-world diving performance. Bulova’s water-resistance and ISO statements describe the manufacturer’s claims; a rating by itself is not a complete assessment of suitability for a specific dive or condition.

How does 96B322 compare with other Oceanographer Devil Diver models?

Reference and configuration matter: the family includes both 41 mm and 44 mm cases, with steel bracelet and rubber-strap options. Bulova Japan’s collection listing provides this direct comparison:

Reference Case size Published configuration Japan-listed price
96B344 41 mm Steel bracelet ¥100,100
96B322 44 mm Steel bracelet ¥100,100
96B350 41 mm Rubber strap ¥90,200

Prices in the table are the amounts shown on Bulova Japan’s collection listing, not global or necessarily current prices. The collection page does not establish all specification differences between the three references, so confirm the precise case, dial, strap and local warranty details on the listing for the exact model you intend to buy. Bulova Japan’s Oceanographer collection lists these references.

Other regional listings include 98B320, a 44 mm black-dial model with a black-and-red bezel and steel bracelet; Bulova Ireland marked that listing sold out. Bulova Ireland’s 98B320 page shows that configuration, but availability in one country does not establish availability elsewhere.

What should you check before buying?

  • Exact reference: confirm that the listing is 96B322 if you want the 44 mm green-dial model, rather than a 41 mm or alternate-color reference.
  • Dimensions and configuration: check case diameter and thickness, dial and bezel colors, and whether the watch comes on a bracelet or rubber strap.
  • Local terms: verify the authorized retailer, warranty coverage and return policy in your market.
  • Price and stock: check the current local listing before purchase. Bulova’s regional pages have shown different states, including discontinued or out of stock in Canada, stock in Japan, and a notify-when-available status in Australia.
  • Use case: treat water resistance and ISO compliance as manufacturer-published claims; seek appropriate guidance for the conditions and equipment involved if you plan to dive.

Regional listings illustrate why a single price should not be treated as universal: Bulova Japan showed ¥100,100 for 96B322, Australia A$1,399, and Germany €599, while Canada showed US$1,050 crossed out alongside an out-of-stock or discontinued status. These are separate market listings and may reflect different dates or local conditions, not comparable current offers. Japan · Australia · Germany · Canada
