Bulova’s Precisionist X collection marked a 2020 milestone: ten years since the brand says its Precisionist movement debuted. The anniversary is historical context, not a new 2026 launch. The collection spans distinct designs and specifications, so details such as water resistance depend on the reference.
What is the Bulova Precisionist X?
Precisionist X is a family of Bulova watches built around the brand’s Precisionist movement and a more architectural case design. Bulova described the 2020 Series X release as a reinvention of the collection’s aesthetic. The anniversary refers to the movement’s 2010 debut, not to every Series X model sharing the same specifications. Bulova’s 96B349 page gives that chronology, while its 98B355 page identifies the anniversary framing.
What makes the Precisionist movement different?
Bulova describes Precisionist as a proprietary 262 kHz, three-prong quartz movement with a continuously sweeping seconds hand. In its undated Precisionist Short Guide, Bulova says the hand moves at 16 beats per second and that the movement’s frequency is eight times that of standard watches. The guide’s statement that this frequency “offers unparalleled accuracy” is Bulova’s promotional claim, not an independently measured result. Read Bulova’s Precisionist Short Guide.
The same guide describes four-eye chronographs with a 12-hour function and timing to 1/1000 second. Those are guide-level descriptions, not specifications established for every Series X reference. The official pages reviewed do not establish a model-specific annual accuracy tolerance for the anniversary leather-strap models, so a seconds-per-year figure should not be inferred from the frequency claim.

How do the Series X 98B355, 98B356, and 96B349 differ?
The two 98-series watches share leather straps, a Damascus steel top-ring insert, sapphire crystal, and 50 m water resistance. The 96B349 is a different Series X configuration, with a steel bracelet and a substantially higher listed water-resistance rating.
| Reference | Finish and strap | Other listed specifications |
|---|---|---|
| 98B355 | Black stainless-steel case; gray Damascus steel top-ring insert; green leather strap | 45 mm case; curved anti-reflective sapphire crystal; 50 m water resistance. Bulova specifications. |
| 98B356 | Rose gold-tone stainless-steel case; gray Damascus steel top-ring insert; brown leather strap; black dial | Curved anti-reflective sapphire crystal; 50 m water resistance. Bulova records an introduction date of 2020-08-31 and an original list price of $1,295. That is historical launch information, not a current price. Bulova specifications and launch details. |
| 96B349 | Silver-tone stainless-steel case and bracelet; blue dial | 45 mm case; 15 mm lug width; 300 m water resistance; 12-hour chronograph and timing to 1/1000 second. Bulova specifications. |
The 96B349 is another Series X configuration; its 300 m rating should not be applied to the 98B355 or 98B356. Check the exact reference and current product page when evaluating a particular watch.

How water resistant is the Bulova Series X?
It depends on the reference. Bulova lists 50 m water resistance for the leather-strap 98B355 and 98B356, and 300 m for the bracelet-equipped 96B349. Those ratings are not interchangeable collection-wide. If water resistance is central to your decision, confirm the rating for the exact model and consult its current care guidance before exposing it to water.

The official 98B356 page records $1,295 as its original list price at introduction in 2020. That historical figure does not establish a current retail or resale price. Current stock and transaction prices can change; check Bulova or a seller’s live listing for the exact reference before buying. The official model pages provide a retailer-finding route, but do not establish current availability.
