For a practical everyday watch, start with the first-generation Sinn 556. For a technical chronograph, consider the 756 DIAPAL; for a dive-watch identity, the U1; and for historical or complication appeal, look at the 155 reissues, 958 Fulda Challenge, or 6000 Finanzplatzuhr. This is an editorial shortlist, not an objective ranking: several watches are boundary cases rather than 2000s launches, and the historical dates below are attributed to Fratello’s 2022 guide.
How to read this shortlist
“Best” depends on what you want from a watch: compact daily wear, a technical chronograph, a dive-watch case, or a historically interesting edition. Fratello’s March 5, 2022 guide selected a handful of notable Sinn watches and acknowledged it could not cover every model from the decade. The 6000, in particular, predates the period; it is included for its relevance to Sinn’s financial-district watches, not as a 2000s launch. Read Fratello’s guide.

Which Sinn from the 2000s should you choose?
First-generation Sinn 556: the everyday choice
Fratello dates the 556’s introduction to December 2007 and says its first generation was produced from 2008 to 2010. Its reported first-generation specifications are a 38.5 mm case, 11 mm thickness, 45 mm lug-to-lug length, 20 mm lug width, 200 m water resistance, a date, and an ETA 2824-2 movement. These figures come from the secondary guide; a historical factory specification sheet was not established here.
Fratello says the line split into 556 A and 556 I in 2011. A used 556 listing therefore needs more than the model-family name: check the exact reference, generation, dial, and condition rather than assuming every 556 has the same specification. If your priority is a relatively compact, straightforward daily watch, the first-generation 556 is the shortlist’s clearest starting point.

#1 Best Overall
- PT5000 Automatic Movement: ML20 uses a PT5000 automatic movement beating at 28,800 vph, with hand winding, hacking seconds, and date display for practical daily use. It gives the watch a smoother mechanical feel while keeping the layout simple and functional for buyers looking for a dependable automatic dive watch
- 200m Water Resistance: Rated to 200m / 20 ATM, ML20 is suitable for swimming, snorkeling, water activities, rain, and daily splashes. The screw-down crown and solid case construction help support the water resistant design, while the compact 39mm case keeps it wearable for office, travel, and regular everyday use
- Sapphire Crystal and BGW9 Lume: The sapphire crystal with inner AR coating helps improve dial clarity and daily scratch resistance. Swiss Super-LumiNova BGW9 on the hands and indices creates a bright blue glow in low light, making the watch easier to read at night, indoors, or during early morning and evening wear
- 120-Click Rotating Bezel: The unidirectional 120-click diving bezel gives ML20 a crisp timing function for water use, short intervals, or daily tasks. The clean tool-watch design, fine sandblasted texture, and available brushed or PVD case options help it feel functional and solid without looking oversized
- Comfortable 39mm Case Fit: The 39mm case, 46mm lug-to-lug length, and 11.3mm thickness give ML20 a compact dive watch profile for many wrist sizes. The solid stainless steel bracelet tapers from 20mm to 16mm, and the 5-hole micro-adjust folding clasp helps fine tune the fit during the day for changing wrist comfort
Sinn 155 reissues: two different stories
Fratello reports that the first 155 reissue was a 200-piece Japan-market run in 2005. It also describes a later 155 Manufactum edition from 2008, with a 43 mm case and a Valjoux 7750-based movement. The same article gives conflicting Manufactum production figures—300 in one passage and 272 in another—so do not treat either as confirmed. For a prospective buyer, reference identity, originality, condition, and documentation matter more than an unverified run-size claim.
Sinn 6000 Finanzplatzuhr and 6066: time-zone and financial-district character
The 6000 is a deliberate pre-decade inclusion: Fratello dates its introduction to 1999. The guide describes a three-time-zone display using a GMT hand and a rotating inner bezel. Its functions make it relevant to Sinn’s Finanzplatz line, but it should not be described as a 2000s launch.

- Stainless Steel case with Black Resin Band
- Black Dial with date window at 3 O'clock
- Luminous markers and hour hands; sweep second hand
- Anti-reverse bezel
- Water-resistant to 200 M (660 feet)
Fratello dates the related 6066 Frankfurt Finanzplatzwecker to 2004. It is the more period-appropriate choice if you want a financial-district model dated to the decade; confirm the exact reference and configuration when comparing examples.
Sinn 958 Fulda Challenge: a limited timing instrument
Fratello identifies the 958 Fulda Challenge as a 2004 limited edition, with a stated run of 250, and describes a split-seconds chronograph with multiple timing scales. Those release and production claims are secondary-source reporting; an official release document was not established here. If the split-seconds function or limited-edition history is the draw, seek supporting documentation for the specific watch rather than relying only on a seller’s description.

Sinn 756 DIAPAL: a technical chronograph now found in the archive
Sinn’s official archive says the 756 DIAPAL is no longer in the current collection and that DIAPAL was first developed in 2001. The archived 756 description specifies a lubricant-free escapement, TEGIMENT treatment, dehumidifying technology, 20-bar pressure resistance, and protection against magnetic fields up to 80,000 A/m. Sinn describes the 756 series as instrument chronographs. Exact details can vary with reference and production history, so use the archive as a guide to the documented configuration, not a guarantee that every used example matches it. See Sinn’s 756 DIAPAL archive page.
Sinn U1: dive-watch identity, with version-specific specifications
The U1 is a strong candidate if you want a dive-watch design and the line’s submarine-steel case. Sinn’s current U1 page states that the case uses German submarine steel and gives a pressure resistance of 100 bar, or 1,000 metres, certified by an independent institute. These are current-page specifications; they should not be projected onto every U1 produced in the 2000s. Check the exact reference and its documentation before relying on a particular historical example’s rating. See Sinn’s current U1 page.

What to check before buying a pre-owned example
For these watches, the model name alone is not enough to establish what is being offered. Use the following checks to compare examples on their actual merits:
- Reference and production period: Confirm the exact reference and whether it is the generation or edition you intend to buy.
- Condition and originality: Review case, dial, hands, bezel, and movement details, and ask whether any components have been replaced or refinished.
- Service history: Request service records and clarify what work was completed and when.
- Documentation: For a limited or special edition, ask for evidence that supports the edition claim; do not rely on an uncertain quantity alone.
- Seller terms: Check return conditions and the seller’s description of the watch’s condition before committing.
- Function-specific checks: For a chronograph, GMT, or alarm model, verify the relevant complication works as described.
No price or investment ranking is established for this shortlist. Availability, condition, and service needs differ from one pre-owned watch to another.
