The best TAG Heuer watch from the 2000s depends on the shape and purpose you want: choose a Carrera CV2110 or CV2111 for a restrained, round chronograph; a Monaco CW2113 for a distinctive square case; or an Aquaracer CAF2110 or CAF2010 for a dive-watch chronograph. These are historically notable candidates, not a ranking by current value or a claim that any individual pre-owned example is in good condition.

How to choose a 2000s TAG Heuer

Start with the watch’s shape and intended character, then verify the complete reference. Diameter alone does not determine fit: case shape, thickness, lug span, bracelet, and your wrist all matter. The model families below offer different styles and complications rather than a single objective winner.

Model Best fit Period details
Carrera CV2110/CV2111 A traditional, round motorsport chronograph Introduced in 2002; 39 mm case, automatic Calibre 17, date at 4:30. CV2110 is white dial; CV2111 is black dial, including an all-black treatment. (TAG Heuer history of the Carrera)
Carrera CV20XX family A larger, more modern-looking sports chronograph Introduced in 2004; 41 mm case and fixed external tachymeter bezel. CV20XX names a family, not one complete reference. (TAG Heuer history of the Carrera)
Monaco CW2113 A recognizable square case and blue-and-white dial Introduced in 2003 with Calibre 17 chronograph movement. TAG Heuer relates its colors to the Monaco worn by Steve McQueen in the 1970 film Le Mans. (TAG Heuer Monaco vintage collection)
Monaco anniversary models A later-period Monaco with a specific movement and layout 2009 included Calibre 12 models with 39 mm cases and Calibre 11 models with 38 mm cases, left-side crowns, and sapphire crystals. Confirm the exact reference and configuration. (TAG Heuer Monaco vintage collection)
Aquaracer CAF2110 A dive-oriented chronograph in a relatively compact case for this group First-generation Aquaracer; 41 mm Calibre 16 chronograph, introduced in 2005 in black, blue, and silver dial colors. (TAG Heuer Official Magazine, Aquaracer collector guide)
Aquaracer CAF2010 A larger case and Day-Date display Introduced in 2006; 43 mm case and Day-Date display. The earlier date-only CAF2110 is 41 mm. (TAG Heuer Official Magazine, Aquaracer collector guide)

Which Carrera should you buy?

Choose CV2110 or CV2111 for heritage styling

The 2002 Carrera generation revisited the model’s earlier motorsport design in a 39 mm case. Its automatic Calibre 17 chronograph and date at 4:30 suit someone who wants a traditional round watch with a chronograph layout, without the more overtly contemporary bezel treatment of the later family. Select the full reference and dial you want: CV2110 is the white-dial version, while CV2111 is black-dial, including an all-black treatment described by TAG Heuer.

Choose a CV20XX if you want a bolder sports-watch look

The CV20XX family arrived in 2004, increased the case to 41 mm, and added a fixed external tachymeter bezel. That makes it the more assertive option of these two Carrera generations. Because CV20XX is a family label, not a complete model number, check the suffix against the actual dial, movement, and case configuration before buying.

Which 2000s Monaco is right for you?

CW2113: the blue-and-white Calibre 17 Monaco

The CW2113 arrived in 2003. Its square case is the key distinction from a conventional round Carrera, while the blue-and-white dial recalls the color scheme TAG Heuer associates with the watch worn by Steve McQueen in Le Mans. Choose it for that recognizable design rather than for a conventional sports-watch profile.

2009 anniversary models: compare the movement and case details

“2009 Monaco” does not identify one uniform specification. TAG Heuer describes anniversary Calibre 12 models with a 39 mm case, up from 38 mm, and sapphire crystal in place of plexiglass. A Calibre 11 anniversary model retained the 38 mm case, used sapphire, and put the crown on the left to echo the original layout. Verify the exact reference, movement, case size, crown position, and crystal rather than relying on the anniversary label alone.

Is a 2000s Aquaracer a good choice?

It can be a good fit if you want a dive-watch design and chronograph rather than the Carrera’s motorsport styling or the Monaco’s distinctive case. TAG Heuer’s collector guide identifies 2005–2009 as the first Aquaracer generation. Within the chronographs, the CAF2110 is the 41 mm, date-only option; the CAF2010 is 43 mm with Day-Date. The guide also describes 38.4 mm cases, principally on quartz watches, and 41 mm cases mainly on automatics.

TAG Heuer’s history describes the initial Aquaracer generation as rated to 300 m and the next generation, introduced in 2009, as rated to 500 m. These are manufacturer descriptions of generations, not a present-day guarantee for an individual vintage watch. Water resistance can change with age, wear, and prior servicing; a watch needs a current pressure test before you rely on it around water. (TAG Heuer brand history)

Adjacent dive-watch alternatives

The Aquaracer followed the 2000 Series lineage: TAG Heuer says the 2000 Aquaracer arrived in 2004 in automatic and quartz versions, and the broader 2000 Series name gave way to Aquaracer in 2005. The Aquagraph is a more specialized alternative, described in TAG Heuer’s vintage history as a 500 m dive chronograph with a helium escape valve and a large 44.5 mm case. Its size and specialist design make it a particular taste, not a universal substitute. (TAG Heuer 2000 Series history)

What to check before buying a pre-owned example

Period specifications identify what a reference was intended to be; they do not verify a listing, establish market value, or prove that an older watch remains in working order. Check the watch itself and its paperwork before treating a seller’s description as confirmed.

  • Full reference: Match the complete model number to the dial, case, movement, and paperwork. A family name such as CV20XX is not enough to confirm a particular configuration.
  • Identity and documentation: Compare serial numbers and documents for consistency. Documentation should support the specific watch, not just the model family.
  • Service and condition: Ask for service history and inspect the case, crystal, bracelet or strap, and included bracelet links. A qualified watchmaker can assess condition and whether the components are appropriate for the reference.
  • Water resistance: Do not assume a decades-old Aquaracer retains its original rating. Request a current pressure test if water resistance matters to you.
  • Purchase terms: Confirm the return policy and whether an independent inspection is possible within the allowed period.

Where the 2000s end

TAG Heuer’s history places its first in-house chronograph movement, Calibre 1887, in 2010, so it falls outside this guide’s 2000–2009 scope. When comparing watches from the decade, focus on the documented period references and their actual condition, not later model history or assumptions about investment performance.
