Yes—your Galaxy Watch can find your phone and make it ring. Open Samsung Find on the watch, choose the phone, and tap the phone-shaped Ring icon. The key limitation is that the devices and Samsung Find service must have a supported connection and setup; this is not an unrestricted locator for any phone in any situation.
Yes—your Galaxy Watch can find your phone and make it ring. On a supported setup, open Samsung Find on the watch, select your connected phone, and tap the phone-shaped Ring icon. The phone should play an alert even if it is set to mute or vibrate, making it much easier to find under a cushion, in another room, or in a bag. Samsung says the ringing alert can sound for up to one minute. See Samsung’s current instructions.
This is not an unlimited “find any phone anywhere” feature. The watch and phone need a supported connection—Bluetooth, or a remote Wi-Fi/LTE connection—and Samsung Find must be set up correctly. If the phone is powered off or cannot communicate with Samsung’s service, the watch may not be able to ring it.
How to make your phone ring from a Galaxy Watch
- Press the Home button on the Galaxy Watch.
- Swipe through the apps and open Samsung Find.
- Tap Continue, if prompted, and approve the requested permissions.
- Choose the phone you want to locate. This is useful if more than one device is associated with your Samsung account.
- Tap the phone-shaped Ring icon.
- Listen for the alert and follow the sound to your phone.
To end the alert, tap Stop on the watch, or dismiss it on the phone. If the phone is close enough for the connection to work, this is usually faster than opening a tracking website or calling the phone from another device.

What you need for the feature to work
The exact menu names and availability can vary by Galaxy Watch model, Galaxy phone, carrier, and software version. The documented workflow is intended for a supported Samsung setup rather than every watch-and-phone combination.
- A supported connection: The watch can communicate with the phone over Bluetooth when the devices are nearby. Depending on the watch, phone, account, and service configuration, a Wi-Fi or LTE remote connection may also be available.
- Samsung Find access: Samsung Find needs to be available on the watch, with its requested permissions approved.
- A Samsung account: The phone should have the relevant Samsung account added.
- Network access: Samsung’s broader requirements call for the phone to be powered on and connected to a stable network for remote-finding features.
- Remote controls and location settings: These should be enabled before the phone goes missing. They cannot reliably be configured after the phone has already disappeared.
For the most dependable setup, configure Samsung Find and the phone’s location and remote-control options while you still have both devices in hand. Samsung’s SmartThings Find requirements and troubleshooting guidance explain the account, network, and remote-control conditions in more detail.
Does the Galaxy Watch need to be next to the phone?
Not necessarily—but proximity and connection status matter. Bluetooth is enough when the phone is nearby and still connected to the watch. If the watch has an appropriate Wi-Fi or LTE connection, it may be able to communicate remotely, subject to the models, account settings, carrier service, and Samsung Find requirements.
That does not mean the watch can always locate a phone left anywhere in the world. A remote command depends on the phone being powered on, reachable through a network, and properly registered with Samsung’s finding service. If you simply left the phone in the house, the Ring command is the right first step. If you suspect it was left somewhere else, use the map and remote controls through Samsung Find or SmartThings Find.

Try these checks in order:
- Check the watch connection. Confirm that the watch is connected to the phone or to a usable Wi-Fi/LTE network. A disconnected watch cannot send a local Bluetooth command.
- Try again from Samsung Find. Reopen the app, select the correct phone, and wait briefly after tapping Ring.
- Use a browser. On another phone, tablet, or computer, open Samsung Find/SmartThings Find and sign in with the Samsung account associated with the missing phone.
- Check the map and status. The web service may show the phone’s location or last known location and can offer actions such as Ring, Lock, and data erasure, depending on the device and its current connection.
- Protect the phone if it may be lost or stolen. Use the available lock function rather than repeatedly trying to ring it. If sensitive information is at risk and recovery is unlikely, consider remote erasure—but treat that as a last resort because it can remove your ability to continue tracking the device.
If the phone is switched off, Samsung notes that only its last known location may be available. A last location is useful, but it is not proof that the phone is still there; it may have moved since the last update.
Samsung Find and SmartThings Find: what is the difference?
Samsung’s current support materials use both names. Samsung Find is the experience Samsung documents for the Galaxy Watch and also provides through the web. SmartThings Find remains available through the SmartThings app and website and is Samsung’s broader device-location service for supported Galaxy phones, tablets, watches, earbuds, and other devices.

Older references may also mention Find My Mobile. Samsung has folded that name into SmartThings Find in its support materials, so an older tutorial may not match the labels on a current phone or website. The available screens can still differ according to software version, country, carrier, and model.
Do you need a Samsung Galaxy Watch and Galaxy phone?
The documented watch workflow is centered on a connected, supported Samsung device setup. If you are buying a watch specifically for this feature, look for a Samsung Galaxy Watch with Samsung Find support appropriate to your phone and software version. Do not assume that every Galaxy Watch model has identical menus or that the feature works the same way with a non-Samsung phone.

The phone is the device being located, so compatibility matters there too. A Samsung Galaxy phone compatible with Samsung Find is the clearest match for Samsung’s instructions. Before buying, check the specific watch and phone models, operating-system versions, region, and carrier requirements rather than relying only on the product family name.
Would a Samsung SmartTag find the phone instead?
A Samsung SmartTag is a separate tracking option, not a requirement for the Galaxy Watch’s built-in Ring command. Samsung presents SmartTag as an additional way to track compatible belongings and devices. It can be useful if you want a physical tracker attached to a bag, keys, or another item, but it does not replace the account, connection, and Samsung Find setup needed for the watch-to-phone ringing feature. See Samsung’s SmartTag information before treating it as a solution for a particular phone model or region.
Quick answer by situation
| Situation | Best next step |
|---|---|
| Phone is probably nearby and the watch is connected | Open Samsung Find on the watch and tap Ring. |
| Phone is outside normal Bluetooth range but still online | Try Samsung Find from the watch if the watch has a supported Wi-Fi or LTE connection, or use the Samsung Find/SmartThings Find website. |
| Phone is muted or vibrating | Use Ring; Samsung says the alert can sound despite mute or vibrate settings. |
| Phone is powered off | Look for its last known location; a live ring command may not be available. |
| Phone may have been stolen | Use the map and lock controls first, and consider erasure only when continued recovery is no longer more important than protecting the data. |
Bottom line: A Galaxy Watch can find a connected phone by sending it a loud Ring alert through Samsung Find. It works best when the watch and phone are connected and the Samsung account, network, location, and remote-control settings were enabled in advance. For a phone that is farther away or offline, switch from the watch’s quick Ring button to Samsung Find or SmartThings Find on the web.
