The green Orient Star RK-AT0106E makes a strong case against a simple Seiko-versus-Orient verdict. In Kaz Mirza’s multi-year ownership account, the Orient stands out for its finishing, distinctive dial and visible mechanical details; Seiko divers come across as easier to wear and brighter in the dark. The RK-AT0106E is a Japan-market Prestige Shop-exclusive reference, so it should not be confused with newer Orient Star divers that share some of its design language.
Which Orient Star diver is this?
This review concerns the green RK-AT0106E, an older Japan-market Prestige Shop-exclusive model. It is not the current Sports Diver RE-AU0307E00B or the 1964 Diver v2 RE-AU0601B. Those are separate watches with different specifications and should not be used as stand-ins for the RK-AT0106E.
Mirza reports that the RK-AT0106E originally sold in Japan for ¥100,000 before tax; the year of that original price is not specified. He imported his watch in 2019 for just over $1,000 after currency conversion and import costs. That is his historical purchase cost, not a verified current price or a guide to present-day availability. His long-term account is available at Two Broke Watch Snobs.
How does the RK-AT0106E wear?
Its reported dimensions are 43.2 mm across, 49.2 mm lug-to-lug and 13.7 mm thick. On Mirza’s 6.75-inch wrist, the watch felt large, and its thickness and weight were noticeable. He did not find it unwearable or badly balanced, but his experience points to a watch that deserves an in-person try-on if possible: measurements alone do not show how its mass and case shape will feel on a particular wrist.
#1 Best Overall
- Stainless Steel case with Black Resin Band
- Black Dial with date window at 3 O'clock
- Luminous markers and hour hands; sweep second hand
- Anti-reverse bezel
- Water-resistant to 200 M (660 feet)
The bracelet adds to the weight. Mirza tried the watch on a NATO strap and found it noticeably easier to wear, though he preferred the bracelet’s appearance. The lugs measure 21 mm; anyone considering a strap should check both width and attachment compatibility before buying.
What are the dial and finishing like?
Mirza praises the case’s combination of brushed and polished surfaces, its beveling and the bracelet’s shaped links. The dial moves between blue-green and green as the light changes, giving the watch a more individual look than a straightforward, high-contrast instrument dial.

- WATER-RESISTANT: these water-resistant men's dive watches are ISO scuba-approved to depths of 200 meters
- AUTOMATIC: these self-winding, automatic men's watches are powered by your movement, with a power reserve of 41 hours
- STAINLESS STEEL: features a durable 43.8mm stainless steel watch case and bracelet.
- LUMIBRITE DISPLAY: this men's automatic watch features a highly-legible display with LumiBrite hands and markers
- 4R35 CALIBER: equipped with the reliable caliber 4R35 automatic movement, this accurate men's watch keeps precise time
An open-heart aperture and power-reserve display make the movement part of the design. They also ask the wearer to look past extra visual information when reading the hands quickly. That trade-off is central to the watch: the mechanical display contributes to its character, but it does not make the dial as immediately legible as a simpler layout.
What does the movement offer?
The RK-AT0106E uses Orient’s F6R42 movement. Mirza reports hacking seconds, hand-winding and a power reserve of more than 50 hours. He had no meaningful accuracy or reliability complaints over his ownership, but the account does not include independently measured accuracy figures. He also found manual winding less satisfying by feel.

How do lume and the crown hold up?
Mirza describes the lume as useful in ordinary situations, but weaker than that on his Seiko Sumo SBDC033. This is one owner’s comparison, not a controlled brightness test or a claim about every Seiko diver.
He also reports that the screw-down crown became increasingly difficult to thread over several years. He says the watch may be due for service and does not identify a cause. That makes it a specific ownership observation, not evidence of a general RK-AT0106E defect.

Is it better than a Seiko dive watch?
There is no single winner in Mirza’s comparison. He describes Seiko divers—including the Sumo, Turtle, Willard and SKX family—as making their dimensions feel less imposing, and he prefers the Sumo’s lume. The Orient Star earns praise for its finishing, bracelet design, dial color and visible movement presentation. The more useful comparison is about priorities:
| What matters most | What Mirza’s account favors |
|---|---|
| Perceived wrist comfort and less imposing wear | Seiko divers, in the reviewer’s experience |
| Lume compared with the Sumo SBDC033 | Seiko Sumo, in the reviewer’s experience |
| Case and bracelet finishing | Orient Star RK-AT0106E |
| Distinctive dial and mechanical display | Orient Star RK-AT0106E |
| Current price comparison | Not established for the RK-AT0106E; the reviewer’s 2019 import cost is historical |
Mirza’s conclusion captures the distinction: “After several years with this watch, we don’t think the answer is as simple as saying Seiko makes the better watch.” The RK-AT0106E is the more visually elaborate choice in this account; the Seiko comparison comes out ahead for perceived ergonomics and lume.

How do other Orient Star divers compare?
Current official listings offer context, but they are not substitutes for the reviewed model. Orient Watch USA lists the Sports Diver RE-AU0307E00B at a displayed $745, marked sold out when accessed October 7, 2026. Its listed specifications are a 43.6 mm case, 51 mm lug-to-lug, 14 mm thickness, F6N47 movement, approximately 50-hour reserve and 200 m ISO 6425 compliance. Those figures apply only to that separate model: Orient Watch USA’s RE-AU0307E00B listing.
Orient UK lists the distinct 1964 Diver v2 RE-AU0601B at £999.99. Its specifications include a 41 mm case width, 49.6 mm lug-to-lug, 14.5 mm thickness, F6N47 movement, more than 50 hours of reserve, sapphire crystal and 200 m water resistance. This is a UK listing and price for the RE-AU0601B—not a price or specification sheet for the RK-AT0106E: Orient UK’s 1964 Diver v2 listing.
