Reviewer Sean McCoy reported no visible damage beyond sunscreen on the band. That is encouraging anecdotal evidence, not proof of a heat tolerance or dust rating.
What happened in the Arizona test?
In a GearJunkie article published June 12, 2024, Sean McCoy described wearing a 41 mm Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition, reference H70315540, during a day in Arizona. The reported conditions included a two-hour dusty ATV ride and swimming in the Salt River. McCoy described the day as 100 degrees, but the article does not identify a measurement station or say that the temperature was instrumented.
McCoy wrote that after the ride and swimming, the watch “looked as good as new, besides some sunscreen smeared on the band.” He also said it lost a little more than a minute over seven days of regular wear. Which Khaki Field Expedition was tested?
The Arizona test was of the 41 mm H70315540, described as a blue-dial watch worn on a blue NATO strap. It was not either of the 37 mm references on Hamilton’s U.S. product pages. Do not treat the test result as hands-on evidence for those smaller models.

Does the test prove heat and dust resistance?
No. It shows that McCoy’s particular 41 mm watch appeared undamaged after the reported day, but it does not establish a manufacturer temperature limit, a controlled Arizona heat result, or an official dust-ingress rating. Hamilton’s cited product pages do not publish a dust rating. The “100 degrees” description is not enough to define a tested operating temperature because the article gives no measurement method or precise location.

McCoy’s conclusion was: “My brief testing proved this watch can handle swimming, dust, and the shock and vibration of ATV driving.” Read that as his conclusion from a brief test of H70315540, rather than a general certification or guarantee for every Khaki Field Expedition.
Can you swim with the Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition?
Hamilton lists 10 bar/100 m water resistance for both cited 37 mm references. That is the manufacturer’s stated rating; it does not independently certify a particular swimming profile or the condition of an individual watch. The Arizona swim is separate evidence: McCoy reported swimming in the Salt River with the 41 mm H70315540 and did not report visible damage afterward.

The rating and the anecdote should not be conflated. The test was not a controlled water-resistance evaluation, and it does not show that every example—or a watch with worn seals or an uncared-for crown—will perform the same way.

Hamilton lists the same core technical specifications for H70225130 and H70225540. These are manufacturer-listed specifications, not results of the Arizona test.

Hamilton’s pages list a 20 mm lug width for both 37 mm variants. That identifies the lug measurement, but it does not confirm the fit of a particular third-party strap. Verify compatibility with the strap maker and the exact watch reference.

The Arizona account is useful as a short, firsthand report: the tested watch was exposed to dust, ATV vibration, and swimming in one day, and McCoy reported no visible damage beyond sunscreen on the band. Its limits matter just as much: it covers one 41 mm watch, one reviewer, and a short period. It does not establish long-term durability, repeatability, a dust-ingress classification, or a temperature rating. No controlled Arizona heat test is described in the cited sources.
