No—not through normal pairing. Apple Watch setup and management require an iPhone, so a Samsung Galaxy phone cannot become its regular companion. There is a limited exception: an iPhone owner can set up an eligible cellular Apple Watch for a family member using Apple Watch For Your Kids (formerly Family Setup). That watch still is not paired to the Samsung phone, and some features are unavailable.
Why Apple Watch does not pair normally with a Samsung phone
Apple Watch is not a generic Bluetooth watch. Apple’s supported setup process uses the Watch app on a compatible iPhone, and that iPhone is also used to manage the watch. A Samsung phone might detect nearby Bluetooth signals, but Bluetooth visibility is not the same as completing setup, installing and managing apps, syncing health data, or receiving the ordinary companion-watch experience. Apple’s setup instructions describe an iPhone-based process.
Apple does not provide a standard Android companion app that replaces the iPhone Watch app. An app that claims to bridge the gap may offer limited functions, but it does not make the watch an Apple-supported Samsung companion. Wi-Fi or cellular service does not change that setup requirement.
The limited exception: Apple Watch For Your Kids
Apple Watch For Your Kids, previously called Family Setup, lets an iPhone-owning family organizer configure and manage a supported watch for a family member who does not have their own iPhone. Depending on the model, region, carrier, and settings, the wearer may use functions such as calls, messages, location sharing, and selected health, safety, and activity features. Apple notes that some features requiring a companion iPhone are unavailable in this configuration; see Apple’s family setup guidance.

This is a managed, limited-use arrangement—not a way to pair an Apple Watch with a Samsung. The organizer’s iPhone remains necessary for setup and management. Do not expect ordinary Samsung notification mirroring, Samsung-based app management, or seamless phone-and-watch continuity. Feature availability can also differ by watchOS version, model, region, and carrier.
What you need for the family setup option
Apple’s general requirements for Apple Watch For Your Kids include a cellular Apple Watch Series 4 or later, or a cellular Apple Watch SE, running watchOS 7 or later; an organizer’s iPhone 6s or later with iOS 14 or later; an Apple Account with two-factor authentication; and Family Sharing. The organizer or parent/guardian manages the watch. Apple’s current setup page also lists newer model-specific requirements: Apple Watch Ultra 3, Series 11, and SE 3 require an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26 or later. Check the requirements for the exact watch and iPhone before buying, since model generations have different minimums: Apple Watch setup requirements.

- Cellular model: Apple’s listed family setup requirements specify cellular-capable hardware. A GPS-only watch does not meet that stated requirement.
- Carrier and service: Cellular features depend on carrier support, plan type, country, and watch model. Apple’s carrier information includes service-specific details; verify eligibility directly with the intended carrier rather than assuming any LTE plan will work.
- Region: Apple says cellular watch models are optimized for the country or region where they are purchased; no single cellular model works worldwide. An imported watch may not activate on the buyer’s carrier.
A family member, partner, or friend with a compatible iPhone may be able to configure the watch this way if the account, Family Sharing, software, hardware, and carrier requirements are met. The iPhone remains the management device; the Samsung phone does not take over.
Does Apple Watch cellular make it compatible with Samsung?
No. Cellular service gives a supported watch a mobile-network connection for functions such as calls, texts, music streaming, and other connected services when an eligible active plan is available. It does not add Android pairing or replace iPhone-based setup. Apple describes cellular connectivity as a way to use supported functions away from an iPhone, not as Android compatibility.

Keep the distinction clear: cellular independence is about how a configured watch connects to a network; Android compatibility is about whether a Samsung phone can set up and manage it. The first does not provide the second.
Can Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or a third-party app work around the limit?
- Bluetooth: A phone detecting a watch does not supply Apple’s setup and management framework.
- Wi-Fi: It may support some functions on a watch that has already been configured, but it does not replace the iPhone setup path.
- LTE: It can provide supported network functions after configuration; it does not make the watch Android-compatible.
- Third-party bridge apps: Treat claims cautiously. An unofficial app is not an Apple-supported replacement for the Watch app. Consider what account or notification access it requests, its reliability and battery impact, and whether it may stop working after an Android or watchOS update. Do not assume a bridge app supplies full pairing.
What if you switch from iPhone to Samsung?
Keeping an Apple Watch already set up on an iPhone
An already-configured watch may continue to perform some functions independently, particularly a cellular model with service, but the Samsung phone will not become its supported companion. Reconfiguration, app installation and removal, software updates, notification management, health-data syncing, and troubleshooting may be difficult without access to an iPhone. If the watch is erased or needs to be paired again, Apple’s iPhone-based setup process generally applies.

Buying or receiving a used Apple Watch
Before paying, confirm the watch is usable in your situation. A low price does not solve the setup or compatibility issue for a Samsung-only household.
- Ask the seller to remove the watch from their account and verify that it is not Activation Locked.
- Check the exact model and generation, and whether it is GPS or GPS + Cellular.
- Inspect battery condition and confirm the watch has been properly erased.
- For cellular use, verify the model’s regional compatibility and carrier support for the specific plan and configuration.
- Make sure you have reliable access to a compatible iPhone if setup or re-pairing will be needed.

Samsung Galaxy Watch
This is the natural first option for a Samsung owner who wants calls, notifications, apps, and ecosystem integration. Compatibility is model-specific: Samsung lists Android 11 or later for Galaxy Watch Ultra and Watch7, Android 10 or later for Galaxy Watch FE, and different version and RAM requirements for older models. For example, its current guidance lists Android 8.0 or later with at least 1.5 GB RAM for Watch6 and Watch6 Classic on non-Samsung Android phones. Some features are limited outside Samsung phones. Check the exact model on Samsung’s compatibility page before buying; see Samsung Galaxy Watch for current models.

Google Pixel Watch
Consider it if Google services and the Wear OS experience are a priority. Verify the current model’s phone requirements, health features, and carrier support for your particular Samsung phone. See Google Pixel Watch.
Garmin
Garmin is a stronger match when training features, GPS, outdoor use, or battery life matter more than a large smartwatch app ecosystem. Models vary substantially; compare the features you need at Garmin’s smartwatch range.
Fitbit
Fitbit can suit buyers focused on activity and sleep tracking, but models differ in GPS, smartwatch features, battery life, and subscription-dependent functions. Check current plan terms as well as device capabilities at Fitbit devices.
How to choose before you buy
- If you want a normal Apple Watch experience: You need an iPhone compatible with the exact watch model.
- If you have only a Samsung phone: Choose an Android-compatible watch and check its exact requirements against your Galaxy model.
- If an iPhone-owning family organizer can help: Family Setup may suit a limited managed-watch use case, but confirm cellular, Family Sharing, model, software, and carrier support first.
- If fitness is the priority: Compare Garmin or Fitbit for training, GPS, battery, and health needs; choose a Galaxy Watch if broad smartwatch functions and Samsung integration matter more.
For any option, check phone compatibility, health-platform integration, calling and messaging, LTE availability and carrier support, battery life, app selection, subscription requirements, and update policy. Also account for the watch price, any cellular charge, subscriptions, and the risk of buying an imported or locked used device; prices and plan terms change, so confirm them with the seller or provider.
