The global model instead launched with Wear OS 6 and Google services, and global launch coverage reports that it omits cellular connectivity. The “titanium” headline refers to an optional 3D-printed strap, not a titanium watch case.
What Xiaomi announced in China
Xiaomi announced the Watch 5 in China in late December 2025 as two versions: a standard model priced at RMB 1,999 and a dedicated Xiaomi Watch 5 eSIM model priced at RMB 2,299. The China launch positioned the watch around Xiaomi’s HyperOS experience, with eSIM offered on that regional edition. These are China launch prices, not confirmed prices for other countries. Xiaomi’s announcement lists the editions and core hardware.
China and global versions are materially different
The same Watch 5 name covers different software and connectivity choices. The international model was introduced at MWC 2026 with Wear OS 6 and Google services. Reporting on the global launch says the international version drops the China model’s 4G/eSIM capability; Xiaomi’s global product page does not present the same China-market eSIM configuration. Regional pricing and availability vary.
| Feature | China-market model | Global model |
|---|---|---|
| Software | HyperOS-based Xiaomi experience; launch coverage identifies HyperOS 3 | Wear OS 6, with Google services |
| Cellular | Dedicated eSIM edition announced | Global launch coverage reports no eSIM/cellular version |
| Launch pricing | RMB 1,999 standard; RMB 2,299 eSIM | Regional pricing varies; launch coverage reported €299.99 in Europe and review coverage reported £269.99 in the UK |
| Buyer consideration | Confirm language, services, warranty and carrier activation before importing | Prefer the local regional model for regional software support and warranty |
The global launch and connectivity distinction is also described by Wareable’s MWC coverage and TuttoAndroid’s regional comparison. The reported European and UK prices are launch/review coverage, not a promise of current local pricing or availability.

What HyperOS 3 means for Watch 5 owners
HyperOS 3 is Xiaomi’s software platform and cross-device layer. Treat it as part of the China Watch 5’s regional experience, not as proof that every Watch 5 runs HyperOS 3: the global watch runs Wear OS 6. Xiaomi’s global page refers to a Xiaomi phone or tablet running the latest HyperOS 3 for certain Smart Hub and cross-device functions. Those functions require compatible Xiaomi hardware and current companion software, and availability varies by region and device.
- Use a compatible Xiaomi smartphone or tablet with the latest HyperOS 3 for the specified Smart Hub functions.
- Install the latest Mi Fitness app.
- For Smart Hub-related functions, Xiaomi specifies Xiaomi Home version 10.4 or later and Smart Hub enabled on the phone or tablet.
See Xiaomi’s global Watch 5 specifications and compatibility notes. The requirements apply to those cross-device features; they do not change the global watch’s operating system.

What the eSIM edition can—and cannot—promise
An eSIM-equipped watch can potentially make calls or use mobile data without a phone nearby, but the feature works only when the watch, local regulations, carrier and wearable plan all support the configuration. A carrier may require number sharing or offer a separate wearable line. Xiaomi’s China announcement establishes the existence and price of a China-market eSIM edition; it does not establish compatibility with US carriers or universal international activation. Check with the exact carrier before buying, and do not assume the global Watch 5 is cellular-capable because the China model has an eSIM edition.
The “titanium” feature is a strap, not the case
The Watch 5 body is described as 316L stainless steel, with sapphire glass on both sides. Xiaomi’s titanium story is an optional 3D-printed strap made from TC4 titanium alloy, reported as a lattice-style design weighing 43 g and about 50% lighter than a traditional stainless-steel strap. Those strap figures are Xiaomi’s stated specifications, not a claim that the case is titanium or that the strap is included in every regional package. The China announcement describes the accessory, while Xiaomi’s global specifications identify the stainless-steel body.

The specifications come from Xiaomi’s announcement and its global product page. Feature availability can differ by region; the global page lists Black and Juniper Green, which should not be read as a guarantee that every color is sold in every market.
How to read Xiaomi’s battery-life claims
Xiaomi claims up to six days in Performance Mode and up to 18 days in Power Saving Mode. The six-day maximum is based on Xiaomi’s stated test pattern, which includes defined use of notifications, heart-rate and blood-oxygen monitoring, screen activations, calls, music and exercise recording; it is not a guarantee for every user. The dual-chip design lets the low-power BES2800 handle less demanding tasks while the Snapdragon platform handles heavier workloads. GPS use, an always-on display, eSIM service, calls, music and continuous monitoring can all change real-world endurance. These are manufacturer claims; they should not be confused with independent testing. Wareable’s review discusses battery strengths alongside software caveats.

Health monitoring, exercise guidance and gestures
Xiaomi lists ECG analysis, continuous health monitoring, more than 150 sport modes and 3D animated workout guidance. The watch also adds an EMG sensor for gesture controls; Xiaomi’s announcement describes seven supported gestures. These features should be understood as smartwatch functions, not medical diagnosis. ECG availability depends on market approval and regional software, while gesture and cross-device features may depend on compatible Xiaomi devices, updated software or regional firmware.
For Smart Hub and other cross-device functions, Xiaomi also specifies compatible Xiaomi phones or tablets and the software requirements described above. Do not assume every gesture or health feature is enabled on every regional version.

Check the exact version before you buy
Product listings that say only “Xiaomi Watch 5” can conceal important differences. Before ordering, verify each of these details with the seller or Xiaomi’s local product page:
- Edition and region: Is it the China Watch 5, China Watch 5 eSIM, or global model? Confirm the listed operating system rather than relying on the product name.
- Phone compatibility: Confirm the supported Android version and any Xiaomi phone or tablet requirements. If a seller claims iPhone compatibility, check what functions actually work.
- Carrier activation: For an eSIM model, confirm the exact carrier, smartwatch plan, number-sharing rules and whether activation is restricted to China.
- Apps and services: Check whether the listing supports Google Play, Wallet, Maps and Gemini, and which regional over-the-air updates the watch receives.
- Warranty and returns: Confirm who provides repair or replacement service in your country and whether the return policy covers an imported unit.
- Battery expectations: Factor in GPS, always-on display, eSIM use, calls, music and continuous health monitoring.
For an imported China model, also verify language options and access to the services you rely on. Do not assume Chinese firmware can be converted to global firmware: treat conversion as unsupported unless Xiaomi confirms otherwise for that exact model.
Which Watch 5 makes sense?
Choose the global model if you want Wear OS and Google services
For buyers in a market where Xiaomi sells the global Watch 5, the Wear OS 6 version is the straightforward choice for Google’s smartwatch ecosystem and local support. Xiaomi-phone owners may also be able to use the documented cross-device features, subject to their device, app and regional requirements.
Consider the China eSIM model only after carrier checks
The China edition is relevant if its software and services suit you and you can confirm that the eSIM will activate with your intended carrier. Its China-market eSIM label alone is not evidence of service outside China.

Look elsewhere if cellular is essential or software polish is the priority
If standalone cellular service is essential, the reported lack of eSIM on the global model makes it a poor fit until Xiaomi’s local specifications say otherwise. Independent reviews describe the software experience as less polished than Samsung’s or Google’s; Wareable’s review and TechAdvisor’s review offer further context. Buyers who prioritize established US LTE options can compare Samsung’s current regional lineup at its US watches page, while checking phone and feature compatibility before choosing.
