What Rolex says about the Oyster Perpetual 28
Rolex’s current model page identifies the Oystersteel Oyster Perpetual 28 as reference 276200 and gives its water resistance as “Waterproof to 100 metres / 330 feet.” The page describes the watch as having an Oyster case with a monobloc middle case, a screw-down case back and a screw-down winding crown with Rolex’s Twinlock double waterproofness system. The rating tells you what Rolex specifies for the model; it does not tell you the present condition of an individual watch. A product specification is not an inspection or a water-resistance test of your particular watch. The model page does not establish whether a used, damaged, or serviced watch still meets that specification.

So the practical answer depends on the watch itself: the published specification is 100 metres, but if its condition or service history is uncertain, do not treat the model rating alone as proof that it is ready for swimming. Rolex directs customers to official retailers for maintenance, but its model page does not state a water-resistance test interval.
What the rating does not tell you about swimming
The Rolex materials cited here do not give swimming-specific precautions or detailed instructions for salt-water rinsing and post-swim care. They also do not set out different guidance for different swimming activities. Avoid reading the 100-metre figure as a stated maximum safe swimming depth or as a guarantee for a particular watch; neither conclusion is established by the product specification.

What to do if you are unsure about your watch
If your Oyster Perpetual 28 has an unknown service history, visible damage, or another condition that makes you uncertain about its water resistance, contact an official Rolex retailer before swimming with it. Rolex says official Rolex retailers are authorised to sell and maintain its watches and describes their technical knowledge, maintenance skills, and special equipment.
