Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteYes, if your G-SHOCK is marked 20BAR. CASIO rates that marking for showering and swimming. The rating does not cover everything, though. Bath water, soap, heated pools and saunas, pressing buttons while wet, and scuba diving all fall outside the guidance, and the exact rule for your watch is printed on its caseback and set out in its operating guide.
Check the marking on your watch first
The answer depends on the water-resistance marking, not on the G-SHOCK name. CASIO’s operating precautions use a table that ties each marking to permitted water activities, and lower ratings do not automatically allow every activity that a higher rating does. Find the marking on the caseback, then match it to the table below.
| Caseback marking | Swimming (per CASIO’s precaution table) | Windsurfing and skin diving | Scuba diving |
|---|---|---|---|
| No BAR marking | Not for swimming | Not stated for this marking | Not for diving |
| 5BAR | Listed as permitted | Permission varies by rating; check the model’s guide | Not for scuba diving |
| 10BAR | Listed as permitted | Permission varies by rating; check the model’s guide | Not for scuba diving |
| 20BAR | Permitted; named on CASIO’s G-SHOCK water-resistance page | Permission varies by rating; check the model’s guide | Not for scuba diving or other diving that requires air tanks |
| FROGMAN (ISO-standard 200m diving resistance) | Permitted | Check the model’s guide | Designed and tested for diving; this is the line CASIO identifies for diving |
The “not stated” entry means the precaution table available to this article does not give a windsurfing or skin-diving permission for unmarked watches. Treat that as a reason to check the manual rather than as a yes.
Showering with a 20BAR G-SHOCK
A 20BAR watch is within CASIO’s stated use for showering. The official G-SHOCK water-resistance page, in its US version, puts it this way:
#1 Best Overall
- Shock resistant 20 bar water resistant
- Stable solar power
- Keeps yourself in time
- MULTIBAND6 reception of six-time calibration signals: Japan (2), United States, Germany, England, China
- Tough Solar ensures stable operation even when using power-hungry functions.
“For everyday use and active water conditions, this means you can wear your G-SHOCK while working with water, showering, swimming, surfing, or jet skiing.”
CASIO Europe’s G-SHOCK page makes the same point with the shower named directly. Neither page gives a publication date, so treat them as current brand guidance rather than a dated technical bulletin.

- Iconic G-SHOCK Square Design – The legendary square case that started it all, delivering timeless style and the rugged durability G-SHOCK is known for.
- Shock Resistant & 200M Water Resistant – Built to withstand impacts, swimming, snorkeling, and demanding everyday use.
- Super Illuminator LED Backlight – Bright white LED with afterglow ensures excellent readability in low-light conditions.
- Essential Digital Features – Includes 1/100-second stopwatch, 24-hour countdown timer, multi-function alarm, flash alert, and full auto-calendar.
- Reliable 5-Year Battery Life – Powered by a CR2016 battery for long-lasting performance with minimal maintenance.
Two cautions still apply in the shower. Do not wear the watch while washing your hands or face or doing housework that involves soap or detergent. CASIO’s module precautions group these with the bath, so the practical rule is to take the watch off before any soapy washing and put it back on once you are dry.
Swimming and water sports
Swimming in the sea, a lake, or a regular pool is within CASIO’s use for a 20BAR watch. Surfing and jet skiing are named on the same page. Several conditions still matter:

- Multi-Alarm with Flash Alert: Stay on schedule with a customizable alarm, hourly chime, and flash alert that combines light and sound for added convenience.
- Do not operate the crown or buttons while submerged or wet. Pressing them with water on the case can allow water past the seals. Wait until the watch is dry before adjusting it.
- Do not wear it in a heated swimming pool, sauna, or other high-temperature, high-humidity environment. CASIO’s precautions list this separately from ordinary swimming, so a warm hot tub or steam room is not the same as a cold pool.
- Rinse after salt water and chlorine. CASIO recommends rinsing with fresh water after seawater, chlorine, dirt, or other residue, then drying with a soft cloth.
What the 20BAR rating does not cover
Three activities fall outside the guidance:
- Bathing. The module precautions say to avoid wearing the watch in a bath. Warm, soapy water is the problem, and the same concern applies to any soap or detergent.
- Scuba diving. Standard G-SHOCK 200m water resistance is designed for active water use. A diving watch must be designed and tested for diving, which is the role CASIO gives to FROGMAN models with ISO-standard 200m diving resistance. The precautions say not to use a standard watch for scuba diving or any diving that requires air tanks.
- Heated or high-humidity water. Heated pools, saunas, and similar environments are excluded even for a 20BAR watch.
How to read the rating
CASIO describes WR20BAR as a 20-bar pressure rating that is commonly used to indicate 200-meter water resistance. The depth figure is an approximate pressure equivalent. It is not a promise that the watch can be used at that depth for every activity, and it does not mean the watch suits diving. “Water resistant” is the accurate term. “Waterproof” suggests a permanence that no mechanical watch can guarantee, and the CASIO wording avoids it.
Keeping water resistance over time
Water resistance depends on seals that age. CASIO’s operating guide recommends having the gaskets replaced about every two or three years. A trained technician checks water resistance when the battery is replaced. This is general manual guidance, not a guarantee that a particular watch stays watertight for that whole interval, because wear, impacts, and the condition of each watch all affect the result.

- Classic sport bands are made of high quality woven nylon materials, soft, breathable, lightweight and waterproof and fully washable for swimming, sports and other outdoor activities
- One-piece straps are extra-long by design, total length: 290mm(11.4inches), with 13 holes that fit wrists from 6.1” to 9” in circumference, if the band is longer than desired, the free end can be folded neatly back into the loop
- Straps are available in 18mm, 20mm, 22mm widths. To determine the proper width for your watch, use a metric ruler to measure the ‘lug width’ (the point on the watch head where the band attaches)
- Swap in seconds, install in just two easy steps. First the strap runs through two ports of the watch. Then, pass through the clasp. Finally adjust the length that suits you
- Package came with 1 nylon strap, 4 spring bars and 1 remove tool, it is convenient for you to change the strap
If your watch is older, has been dropped, or has fogged or shows moisture under the crystal, stop using it in water and take it to an authorized CASIO service centre. A watch with a damaged seal is not worth the risk of a shower or swim.

- Confirm the caseback marking reads 20BAR, or find the matching rule for your marking.
- Shower and swim freely, but take the watch off for baths, soap, and heated pools.
- Do not press crown or buttons while the watch is wet.
- Rinse with fresh water and dry with a soft cloth after salt water, chlorine, or dirt.
- Do not use it for scuba diving or any diving with air tanks.
- Have gaskets replaced about every two or three years and the water resistance checked at each battery change.
The operating guide for your exact model is the final authority, because CASIO’s precautions are written for specific modules and not every G-SHOCK shares the same features.
