Usually, yes—but check the exact reference and the watch’s condition first. Rado Captain Cook models have different published water-resistance ratings, and those specifications do not prove that an individual watch remains water resistant today. Rado recommends an annual water-resistance check.
Check the water-resistance rating for your exact Captain Cook
“Captain Cook” is a collection name, not one universal water-resistance specification. Rado’s published examples range from 150 m to 30 bar (300 m), depending on the model. Find the reference number on your watch or its documentation, then match it to the relevant Rado specification.

Rado’s 2024 English user manual explains that water-resistance information in “meters” or “bar” refers to theoretical pressure and temperature test norms; it does not indicate actual diving depths. So a printed meter figure is not a promise that you can safely take the watch to that depth. For swimming, the relevant starting points are the exact model’s stated rating and the watch’s current condition.

Consider the watch’s condition and service history
Rado states that water resistance is not permanent and recommends an annual check. The original rating alone cannot show whether an older watch, one that has been damaged, or one with an unknown service history still resists water. If you cannot confirm the reference or the watch’s condition, ask Rado or an authorized Rado dealer or service center to assess it before swimming. Rado’s manual says operations relevant to warranty conformance must be carried out by an authorized dealer or authorized service center.

- Make sure the crown is fully returned to position 1 or, if it screws down, screwed back in by pressing and turning clockwise at the same time.
- Do not operate the crown or chronograph pushers underwater.
- Avoid shocks to the crown.
These handling instructions are from Rado’s 2024 English user manual. If the crown does not close as intended, or you suspect damage, do not rely on the model’s published rating as assurance for your individual watch.
