How large is the Santos-Dumont XL?
Horobox reports a case measuring 46.6 mm long, 33.9 mm wide and 7.5 mm thick. Fratello independently reports the XL hand-wound platform’s 46.6 mm lug-to-lug, 33.9 mm width and 7.5 mm thickness. Because the case is rectangular, “XL” should not be read as a 46.6 mm round-case diameter; the dimensions describe its length, width and slim profile. Fratello’s hands-on gives platform-level measurements, while the exact-reference figures come from Horobox.
Case, dial and strap
- Case: Stainless steel, with an 18K pink-gold bezel; Horobox reports a stainless-steel caseback.
- Dial: Rose- or copper-toned, with a sunray-finished outer area and a printed, guilloché-like center motif. The available description does not establish that the motif is hand-turned guilloché. Blue hands provide contrast.
- Crown: Stainless steel set with a blue synthetic spinel cabochon, according to Horobox.
- Caseback: Horobox reports an engraving depicting a sketch of Santos-Dumont’s No. 19 flying machine.
- Strap: Dark-grey alligator leather. The cited coverage does not establish current Cartier strap stock or confirm compatibility with third-party straps.
WatchesLondon lists water resistance at 30 m. That figure comes from the retailer listing and was not corroborated by the review coverage cited here, so treat it as a listing specification rather than a separately confirmed test result.

What movement does it use?
The CRW2SA0025 uses the manual-winding Cartier Calibre 430 MC. Horobox describes the calibre as based on Piaget 430P, measuring 2.15 mm thick, and offering up to 38 hours of power reserve. Fratello gives an approximate 36-hour reserve for the Santos-Dumont XL hand-wound platform. These are source-reported figures, not a single independently measured result; the difference should be kept in view rather than collapsed into one definitive reserve claim.
How many were made?
Horobox and WatchesLondon report a limited run of 500 pieces. This is the edition count reported in 2021-era specialist coverage and the retailer listing; no Cartier archival product page was identified to independently confirm it.

What did it cost at launch, and is it available now?
Horobox reported a 2021 list price of €6,960 excluding tax in its review dated August 13, 2021. This is a historical launch-era figure, not a current retail price. WatchesLondon’s listing marks the watch sold out and shows a historical asking price of £9,500; one sold listing is not enough to establish a present-day market value.
