It pairs a design inspired by that original with Tough Solar charging, Bluetooth connectivity and Multiband 6 radio time adjustment. Casio limited global production to 4,000 individually numbered watches; its U.S. product page now lists the model as discontinued and sold out.
What the TRN50-2A commemorates
Casio announced the TRN50-2A on February 15, 2024, marking 50 years since the company introduced the Casiotron QW02. Casio describes the 1974 model as its first wristwatch and the world’s first digital watch with an automatic calendar. That calendar handled month lengths and leap years, removing the need to correct the date manually each month. The original displayed February 29 in leap years, according to Casio’s 2024 announcement.
The anniversary model is a modern re-creation, not a functional reproduction of the QW02. Casio says it aimed to retain the original’s design and size while incorporating contemporary technology. Visual details include a dark-blue dial, the Casiotron logo, textured case and band, and an updated anniversary symbol on the case back.
How limited is the Casiotron TRN50-2A?
Casio stated that the worldwide edition was limited to 4,000 pieces. Each watch has an engraved serial number in the range 0001/4000 through 4000/4000. The numbered run establishes the production limit, but does not by itself indicate how many watches remain available or what they may sell for now.

There is a discrepancy in Casio’s published water-resistance figures: the February 2024 U.S. launch announcement said 200 meters, while the current international specification page and U.S. product function summary list 50 meters (5 bar). The current specification-page figure is 50 meters; buyers should not treat the launch-release number as the model’s current stated specification. Original U.S. price and availability
Casio America announced a U.S. launch price of $499 in February 2024. That is the original announced price, not a current quote or an estimate of resale value. At the time of the current Casio U.S. listing, the page marked the TRN50-2A “Discontinued” and “Sold Out.” This describes Casio’s official U.S. listing; current third-party inventory, prices, condition and seller reliability have not been established.

The QW02’s significance was its calendar: a digital watch that automatically accounted for the date, including February 29 in leap years. The TRN50-2A carries that anniversary story forward through its name and styling, while its practical timekeeping features reflect a much later generation of Casio technology. Solar charging reduces reliance on conventional battery replacement; Bluetooth links the watch to a phone app, and Multiband 6 provides radio time adjustment. Casio’s product specifications list those systems alongside the world-time, stopwatch, timer and alarm functions.
