Casio’s 35th-anniversary watches were a multi-release program, not one model. The documented 2017–2018 releases include Big Bang Black, Red Out, Original Color, Magma Ocean, and the gold GMW-B5000TFG-9JR. For precise identification, use the collection name and exact reference: the anniversary label alone does not tell you which design or features a watch has.

Big Bang Black: black-and-gold anniversary details
Casio’s August 2017 announcement lists five references: GW5035A-1, GG1035A-1A, GA735A-1A, GA135A-1A, and GA835A-1A. The release describes a gold IP band keeper marked “SINCE 1983” and a gold IP case back engraved with the anniversary logo, set against a black-and-gold design.
Casio gave selected US launch-era suggested retail prices: $350 for GW5035A-1, $370 for GG1035A-1A, and $140 for GA735A-1A. Those figures apply to the named references at launch; the announcement does not provide prices for the other two listed models. They are historical suggested retail prices, not current market values.
Red Out: matte red finish and red display
The Red Out references are DW5635C-4, DW5735C-4, DW6935C-4, and GA735C-4A. Casio highlighted matte red finishing, a deep red LCD display, a black IP metal band loop stamped with stars, and a black IP case back bearing Eric Haze’s anniversary logo.
#1 Best Overall
- Rugged & Sporty Design – Matte black finish with bold digital display, built for tactical, military, and extreme sports enthusiasts.
- High-Brightness LED Backlight – Features Super Illuminator LED with a light guide plate, ensuring exceptional visibility in low-light conditions.
- 200M Water Resistance – Engineered for swimming, snorkeling, and outdoor adventures, this shock-resistant watch is ready for action.
- Extended 7-Year Battery Life – Powered by a CR2025 battery, offering years of reliable performance without frequent replacements.
- Shock-Resistant Structure – Built to withstand extreme conditions, making it ideal for sports, military, and rugged outdoor use.
The US announcement said all four would be available from February 2018 for $140 each. It also stated shock resistance and 200-meter water resistance for these release models. Because those are announcement-level claims, check the documentation for the exact reference and region before relying on them for a purchase or use case.
Original Color: three named references, ambiguous price mapping
Casio’s April 2018 announcement names DW5035D-1B, DW5735D-1B, and GF8235D-1B. It describes black-and-gold styling, gold hardware details, and an anniversary case-back logo by Eric Haze, with a planned May 2018 launch.
Rank #2
- Shock-Resistant Durability: Built to withstand the toughest conditions, this G-Shock watch features a rugged resin case and bezel, perfect for outdoor adventures and extreme sports.
- 200M Water Resistance: Designed for water enthusiasts, it’s suitable for scuba diving, swimming, and snorkeling, providing reliable protection up to 200 meters.
- Electro-Luminescent Backlight: The blue-green EL backlight with afterglow ensures clear visibility of the time, day, and date, even in complete darkness.
- Precision Stopwatch & Countdown Timer: Measure elapsed and split times with the 1/100-second stopwatch, or set up a countdown timer with up to a 24-hour range, ideal for timing workouts or daily tasks.
- Multi-Alarm with Flash Alert: Stay on schedule with a customizable alarm, hourly chime, and flash alert that combines light and sound for added convenience.
The announcement gives $200 and $500 retail prices but does not unambiguously assign each amount across all three references. It is therefore not possible to state a reliable launch price for each individual model from that announcement alone.
Magma Ocean: Rangeman and Frogman
Casio called Magma Ocean the final collection in the year-long anniversary celebration. It named the GPRB100TF Rangeman and GWF1035F Frogman. The announcement describes the Rangeman as designed for intense outdoor use, with mud resistance and low-temperature resistance to -20°C/-4°F. Confirm the exact regional reference and current specifications in the model’s manual or Casio regional product information before treating that figure as a current specification.

GMW-B5000TFG-9JR: distinguish the gold anniversary edition
Casio identifies the GMW-B5000TFG-9JR as a gold special edition for the 35th anniversary. Do not confuse it with the regular silver GMW-B5000D-1JF: the latter’s Japanese Casio page lists an April 2018 release and describes a stainless-steel case and band, shock-resistant construction, 20-bar water resistance, solar power, and radio time calibration. Those details belong to the D-1JF page and should not be assumed to describe every GMW-B5000 reference.
Casio’s G-Shock concept page calls the GMW-B5000 the “First full-metal take on the first-ever G-SHOCK,” referring to its full-metal realization of the original DW-5000 design. Casio G-Shock concept and history

How to identify or research a specific anniversary watch
- Start with the case-back or listing reference. Search the full model code, including its suffix, rather than only “G-Shock 35th anniversary watch.” For example, DW5635C-4 is a Red Out reference, while GMW-B5000TFG-9JR is the gold anniversary edition.
- Match the reference to its collection. Use the collection and model lists above to separate similar-looking black-and-gold releases and the different red, outdoor, and full-metal families.
- Verify specifications on the exact model page or manual. Historical announcement details do not establish the present specifications for every regional variant.
- Assess a pre-owned listing on its own evidence. Check the seller, photographs, condition, included packaging and documentation, and whether the case and reference details match. The historical releases do not establish current stock, asking prices, resale value, or authenticity of any particular listing.
- Check fit before buying replacement parts. Strap or bracelet compatibility depends on the exact reference and connection; do not assume a generic replacement fits.
